Did Maul turn good before he died?

Did Maul turn good before he died? Obi Wan gave him a proper burial. I want to think he turned to the light side of the force. I remember people on YouTube saying Maul turned good, but did he really?

His eyes stayed yellow, so I don’t think so. If anything that adds to the tragedy. His final thoughts were how Luke would avenge him. Not achieve justice, but revenge.

Maul should have turned good.

Maul spent so much of his life consumed by rage that I think turning back to the light in the last seconds of his life would have felt extremely hamfisted and illogical. I think it was better to not give him closure - it both solidifies Maul’s story as a tragedy and makes Luke’s mission in the original trilogy more compelling.

Also, Maul may have let go of his burning hatred of Obi-wan once he knew death was moments away, but it’s not like he did some last heroic act which would have qualified as any kind of ‘redemption’. I don’t see any point in having Maul turn good for no reason.

He did not. He found peace in his final moments knowing he would be avenged, and let go of his hatred for Obi-Wan. But revenge is not the light side way.

His turn was pretty slow when he just let Obi-Wan flip over him.

There’s no indication that he rejected the dark side.

His beef was with Palpatine, specifically. Like pretty much everyone in this series, but even moreso than most, he was a victim of Palpatine and wanted revenge, and in his dying moments he took comfort in the idea that Luke would eventually carry out that revenge.

The moment just works better if he is rejecting the dark side. For that reason alone I choose to believe he does.

I wouldn’t say so much that he turned as I would say he found a moment of peace and acceptance of his fate. He found comfort in assuming like Obi-Wan that Luke was the Chosen One and could “avenge” everything that was taken from him. So it’s more he found acceptance in belief that Palpatine would soon fall.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Ben seeing Maul die with a persistent desire for vengeance probably strengthens his perspective in ROTJ that Vader is irredeemable, and if he had ‘turned good’ it would’ve undermined that.

I don’t see Maul turning good. Not as consumed by the dark side as his life force finally slips away, but not turning good. Obi-wan gives him a proper burial because that is the proper thing to do.
