The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 346

Not sure if this would really be considered radical or not, but maybe add some ads visible on Coruscant in Revenge of the Sith advertising Anakin as “The Hero With No Fear” just like in the lore, showing how Anakin has become celebrated as a war hero, showcasing some of the propaganda Palpatine has been pushing to further his agenda, and also adding a bit of irony considering fear is the exact thing he gives into in the film.

In addition a similar ad could play on Anakin’s Nintendo thingy.

Recently I ran once again across Emanswfan’s idea to restructure AOTC and start with the arena sequence.
And I picked up on it and build my own restructure around, which I’d like to share with you.

STAR WARS
Episode II
THE GREAT DIVIDE

10 peaceful years have past
since the crisis on Naboo, but
the peace grew frail and the
Jedi’s watch was dimmed by the
rising shadow of the Sith.

Albeit the sincere government
of Chancellor Palpatine and
the devoted service of newly
elected Senator of Naboo the
Republic began to split, due
to the challenge of Count Dooku.

The newly assembled Separatist
movement lead by the war hero
and former Jedi Master gathered
on Geonosis far out of reach of
the Republic, but not unknown
to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi…

-pan down; a starfighter approaches Geonosis; Obi-Wan investigates the droid factory and catches on to Gunray scheming to assassinate Amidala; meanwhile his ship is discovered and he gets captured
-Obi-wan is interrogated by Dooku while Padmé and Anakin arrive (minus 3PO) and are captured; Dooku interrogates Padmé and both her and Ani are sentenced to death
-the two of them share their feelings for one another, but are interrupted; the arena sequence (minus Jangos death and the 3PO stuff)
-Republic Troops arrive; Dooku flees and the trio catches on to him; as Anakin and Obi-Wan arrive at the hangar, Dooku takes off
-Padmé addresses the Senat (minus assassination attempt talk); Palpatine office, Palpatine ask the Jedi to protect the senator from Gunray
-Elevator scene and reunion cut short; no creepy ani stuff; the speeder chase
-Anakins new assignment; Dex’s Diner; Padmé packing; Younglings; departure from Coruscant; landing platform scene
-Arrival on Naboo; Padmé Parents house; Space battle over Kamino (color graded Geonosis asteroid chase); Picnic scene; meeting the prime minister; “I don’t like sand” (but without the line 😛)
-Inspecting the clones (the army was ordered for the trade federation, only mentioned by Obi-Wan later)
-Fireplace scene; Nightmare scene; meeting Jango; meeting Watto; Fight in the rain; the Lars homestead, search for Shmi; Obi-Wans message (sent from Kamino); Shmi’s death; Garage scene; funeral
-Message from Obi-Wan (he tracked down Jango to Geonosis and the clones were meant for the trade federation); Padmé and Ani leave for Coruscant; Separatist Meeting on Geonosis; Emergency powers for Palpy; Obi-Wan reports to Yoda and Mace, while their on their way
-Attack on Geonosis; Anakin and Obi-Wan surprise Dooku at the hangar; Ending scenes

I hope this hasn’t become to much of a cryptic crossword and that I managed to convey the broad structural changes I imagined.

Have a nice day 😄

Do you think deepfakes are advanced enough to do a younger Tarkin in ROTS via using the early Hammer films he was in as reference for facials?

I would like to use Hal’s cut of Attack of the clones and fix all of Obi-wan’s fake beard scenes…has anyone attempted it before?

I’ve said this before, but there was an old fanedit of TPM in the works where they tried to remove Jar Jar. Just… completely gone. Whatever happened to it? Seemed promising, because trying to recontextualize him or make him work within the movie has fallen flat, in my opinion.

Unironically, cutting out Jar Jar would go a long way to making the Phantom Menace an actually, genuinely good movie. It’s not its only problem, but the other edits I think you’d have to do would be trivial, and have already been done in fanedits like Hal’s. The only exception being Watto kind of being super antisemitic, but I kind of think fixing that is well beyond the scope of modern fanediting.

You can at least remove his accent by redubbing him.

It might work to make it a little more diluted

Isn’t the scene where Padme and Jar Jar discuss getting the Gungans on board kind of important, though? It’s been a while but iirc that’s the part where Padme decides to go back to Naboo and get help from the Gungans, rather than waiting on the Senate to provide aid.

She’s already made up her mind, that’s just when she starts to decide on a plan. You could keep some Jar Jar, though, and just cut him way down in the movie instead of out completely. Especially because that scene you’re talking about isn’t so bad.

I think Jar Jar is an important part of Episode 1, especially since he’s designed to be a contrast to the weird uptight Jedi and the weird uptight Queen. However, it would be really cool to see him redubbed as less of a comic relief character and more of an example of a typical person in this galaxy thrust into these strange situations. Essentially he is the barometer for judging what is ‘normal’ and this version of the character would have him comment on the strangeness of the Jedi and the stilted nature of the queen, the broken nature of the Senate and the insanity of war. His quest is just to get back to something approaching normal in his life.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I can stomach Jar Jar now, especially because of Hal’s cut of the movie. I think doing what he did with his edit helps keep the canon on course, and I have a feeling Jar jar will reappear in the future and the seeds of his beginning need to remain in my mind.

As Neverar said, I think the best approach would be redubbing Jar Jar to make him feel more like an everyman, with a more neutral accent and maybe even with a deadpan snarker attitude, reframing him as the regular civilian caught up in a grander-scale conflict between Jedi, Sith, politicians, etc. I remember there was such an attempt (at least for TPM) but didn’t reach completion.

He is a racist Jamaican stereotype so really just needs to go, because racist stereotypes have no place in Star Wars.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Can the Gungans be excised altogether, other than JarJar when he has to be seen with the party? Battle droids still attack Theed so there’s still jeopardy for the Naboo characters and a reason for Anakin to fly off to shut them down.

I unironically like Jar Jar. He is a fun character whom Qui-Gon plays off of brilliantly. I only care about cutting the halfhearted potty humor.

That said, if you wanna remove Jar Jar, I think it can be done. It’s a huge undertaking, however. The Gungans as a whole could be cut too. I remembering seeing clips here of someone digitally removing Jar Jar from some shots on Tatooine.

In theory I think redubbing Jar Jar as the everyman is the best option, but fanedits that have done it don’t pan out as well as I’d hope. Maybe I’m being too hasty, but a new approach like cutting Jar Jar out completely is something I’m interested in. But maybe since that guy doesn’t seem to be working on it anymore, it didn’t pan out as well as I thought.

Much like a revolution, everyone agrees on the problem, but no one agrees on the solution.

Dubbing Jar Jar would be fine if you were to use Hals cut instead of theatrical cut. In Hals cut he is more subdued.
In the theatrical cut he is too overly animated & dubbing him as the every man would see strange because of how he’s reacting.

Lets bring up one of my favorite problems: the clones. And more specifically the mystery surrounding them and how everyone buys the story of Sifo-Dyas without question.

So here’s a question: What if the clones where never ordered for the Republic, but by some fraction involved with the separatist, for example the Trade Federation?
That way no-one needs to question the clones’ existence as we were handed a sensibly cover up story and only Obi-Wan finding them by accident remains a plot conveniency.

Now the core problem with that is why would they end up fighting for the Republic. And the easy answer would be money. Simply subtitle this alien senator that Bail is arguing with, to say something along the lines of paying the Kaminoans double. This change would even be set up by Dexter in the Diner scene:

Obi-Wan: “Depends on what Dex?”
Dex: “On how well your manners are, and how big your pocketbook is.”

Now everything that remains is to cut the prime minister mentioning the Republic and altering Obi-Wan’s holochat with Yoda and Mace to “…at the request of the Trade Federation…”, he mentions them in the message he sent from Geonosis.
On top of that we could subtitle Poggle to condemn the Kaminoans for their betrayal and change Dooku’s line about the Trade Federation’s “battledroids” being combined with the separatists’ to “forces”. He says force at least once during his battle with Yoda.

This change would even justify Lama Su’s line about the clones being superior to droids better than in the theatrical cut, because originally this line only makes sense after the clone wars ensued.
With this change it would be a call back to Episode I, where we saw the droids fail the Trade Federation.

Wait, so the Trade Federation is funding both sides of the war? Why would they even use such different armies? I’d expect them to just both use battle droids at that point.
