I was asking if you’d add back him wanting to tell Rey of his Force-sensitivity; at least a large part of his arc involves him moving on from her altogether, so he stops trying to tell her. The point of this in the actual film is to reinforce his attachment to Rey, and when he does move on from her he stops trying to tell her of his Force-sensitivity, showing how he’s moved on and let go of Rey.

The lack of a payoff of Finn wanting to tell Rey of his Force-sensitivity is the point.

If we’re throwing in things to consider that the community might be able to help with (ideas that have been thrown around before here and elsewhere)…

  • Add a line for Leia after saying “no” to Rey going on the mission. Something like “You’re not ready.” Scene feels a little awkward.
  • Add Finn saying to Jannah “We all have to fight” so it seems like he had some influence on her decision to join the resistance (paying forward his TLJ arc).
  • Change Luke’s line to “Leia sensed the BIRTH of her son,” which seems more fitting.
  • Give Rey a different outfit in the final scene, either all black or grey, or partially black or grey.
  • Recolor the saber burial cloth to be black and add a hole so it appears to be Ben’s sweater, so she’s burying things that belong to all three ghosts.

100% down with these additions, especially the last two.

Same here, those would be nice additions if doable.

Also … my comment on the whole Finn “has something to say” conversation … No. You know it was badly executed when the Director of the movie had to tweet the explanation on it. Regardless of the reasoning of it, or what it represents, it’s execution is poor and is way muddled up. It would have been better, if JJ wanted the whole “I need to tell you something” concept on Finn’s part to Rey would have been better if he kept getting interrupted.

However, it was portrayed as: We are all about to die and my last dying breath is: I think I am force sensitive! And when they are alive, he is still “ashamed” or “unwilling” to talk to her about it. Terrible.

THat’s like you and your friends are about to die from a plane crash and before you hit the mountain someone says “I’ve always wanted to tell you JOHN DOE that I think I can bowl a perfect game!”

The issue is it was more portrayed like “I have feelings for you and am ashamed to tell you” then anything else. So again, it’s about the execution of it that makes it bad. If it was handled differently, and more clearly, then yeah, it would have been fine.

You know when something isn’t handed correctly or isn’t clear to the audience is when you have to tweet about it.

^ Ah, I gotcha now, Test. Well, I still think it’s a pretty weak arc and it feels right to remove his felt need to express it to her. I’d probably feel differently if the film ever made it a little clearer what it was.

The thing about adding the dialogue; do we have audio available to make those changes possible.

  • oh and as far as Finn’s force story is concerned, i think leaving it intact in the way it was in V1 is the way to go, i wouldn’t like to remove it completely, because lets say in the future they make a new movie and finn all of a sudden is using the force, it would seem odd continuity wise.

Maybe that was their intent, but it failed in execution imo. You might understand the nuances of Abrams and Terrio’s storytelling abilities, but if the majority of the audience doesn’t really get it, then you have to ask yourself if they actually succeeded at conveying the story they were trying to tell the audience.

Anyway, it may be a good idea for us to put any new ideas on a hiatus for now, and just keep the topic on changes that are actively on the to-do list.

So I am apparently seeing you guys saying that what he wanted to say to Rey wasn’t clear enough. I disagree, Finn says to Poe, “It’s something only Rey and the general would understand,” and both Rey and Leia are Force-users.

Finn’s force ability story is the exact same as Leia’s in the OT. It’s best to just go with it. It took over 30 years to see Leia use the force properly

Again, it’s about the execution of it which is weak and muddled. Best to have it removed. We see his force sensitivity abundantly at the end-ish part of the movie AND have the set up/hint from Hal’s and Poppa’s TLJ edit.

I very much doubt Disney will continue this storyline. A majority of actors have said they won’t return and each movie lost more and more revenue as time went on. As much as Finn being force sensitive would’ve/should’ve been an awesome payoff at the end I’m much happier removing any sign of his sensitivity. Poe also shows some signs in TLJ which didn’t go anywhere. TROS felt lost from the start, IMO.

Nah he will 100% return. I remember all the years people tried to reunite the OG cast, and it was hell. Carrie wanted nothing to do with Star Wars for years, but when the money was on the table everyone returned.

They will return to Finn being force sensitive.

As far as Poe is concerned, TLJ matured him, TROS turned him into a marvel sidekick.

I feel they’ll continue to make post-TROS stories featuring Rey, Poe, and Finn in the comics and novels. But, yeah… I don’t see any of them returning to a film or TV format unless it’s like YEARS later.

Besides, on the off chance that there is an Episode X, I would only want Rose to return seeing how sidelined she was in TROS. 😉

Just to be clear, I have no aversion to including the “Finn is Force sensitive” idea on its own; I just don’t see it as a “necessary” inclusion. It’s a fine idea, but a naff execution of it. So, like, the potential benefits of streamlining the Nav Tower gobbledygook are worth losing “I’m slightly Force sensitive” to me. But hey, if you want to keep Finn with his thing, that’s fine too. God knows he didn’t get anything else worthwhile in this film.

REYYYYYYYYYY

Thoughts though on the “Trapped for just a few minutes” line, and the “Leia Death March” clip?

  • Adding lava to some of the Mustafar shots.
  • Change Rey’s line to “I will earn your FAMILY’S saber,” which just makes more sense on a few levels.
  • Add a line for Leia after saying “no” to Rey going on the mission. Something like “You’re not ready.” Scene feels a little awkward.

I’d definitely be willing to work on “Family saber” and “birth of her son,” but I couldn’t find any clips that matched. If someone can track down those audio clips, or can think of possible alternatives, we’d be in business.

Love the idea of recoloring Rey’s clothes.

I think Leia says “Be patient” earlier in the film, so that could work in theory. (“I have to go to Exegol!” “No, be patient…” “Nah, I’m going. Try and stop me!”) The quote may have to be massaged a bit to fit in seamlessly though.

If I could cut one thing it would probably be the Zorii Blizz declining Poe moment at Resistance base, feels really pointless to just show her turning him down.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Rey wearing dark clothes throughout the film, then end on her wearing white? Like Luke in his all black ensemble and the white flap at the very end. Black and dark gray colour clothes in Star Wars thematically means evil, or conflicted at the very least. What’s the message of her wearing some darker colours at the end of this? sorry if im missing something.

Edit: Is it that she’s now okay about her evil Palpy heritage, and wearing dark at the end is like a badge of honour? “Here are my scars, but I’m really a Skywalker at heart.”? Is that necessary? I’d prefer it if “Rey Skywalker.” was her first time wearing all white in the film, if things were different.

By all means start now! I’m sure the time/work needed to do this will only shave a few years of your life. 😉

Personally, I’m not a big fan of the “Death March” clip you posted. However, I’m all for the two other ideas you had!

Eh, I don’t really want to trim Leia any further. Nor to revise the nav tower plot element. It’s not great, but I’d rather keep the fragile nuances in place to the degree they are in the theatrical.

I know it’d take far too much work to actually change her wardrobe throughout the movie. It would be much more doable to merely tackle the ending scene. However, it really wouldn’t make sense to give her dark clothing there. If anything, I’d expect this to be her final goodbye to the old ways before changing her outfit as she ventures out into her new journey. I guess it’s a “could, but probably shouldn’t” thing.

That scene is important because it’s proof that Poe isn’t gay. YOU HEAR THAT, EVERYONE? POE IS NOT GAY! Repeat: POE IS NOT GAY. He doesn’t end up with Finn. He wants a girlfriend. A woman girlfriend. DISNEY IS FAMILY FRIENDLY!

Just got finished watching the new Justice League. Boy, let me just say, if this movie gets the same treatment in a few years, I will be one happy camper.

As for changing Rey’s clothes to black at the end, I feel like that kinda goes against her whole Skywalker name claiming at the end. Really pointless and distracting as a result. If she said she was “Rey Palpatine”, it would make sense lmao.

Also, I always felt that one scene with Leia was hella awkward. I agree something should go there. Are there some lines available for her from Lego The Force Awakens game?

My issue with the Leia scene isn’t so much that she doesn’t say anything; there’s far too much on-the-nose, plot-driven dialogue as it is for my tastes (such as Maz’s lines in this very scene). I just take umbrage to the fact that she just hobbles away like some decrepit, old woman, only to die for reasons that are vague at best. (“She has lost the will to live.”) (If she dies because of “communicating with Ben,” A) That’s dumb, B) That doesn’t happen any of the times she connects with Luke from far away, and C) She’s weakened before she even reaches out to Ben; she just feels him, much like she feels Luke or Han.)

It just really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Doesn’t Carrie Fisher deserve a stronger send off?

Regarding the clothes, it just feels to me like the Tatooine scene should be about putting the past to rest, hence her burying the old lightsabers, and walking away with a new one. She’s wearing her an outfit very similar to her TFA one; let’s change it up a little. Of course, that’s all kind of shot in the foot by “Rey Skywalker,” and it would make more thematic sense to change her clothes the rest of the film, but ehh… What can you do?

We’re talking about different scenes. I’m talking about the one where she tells Rey “no” about leaving for Exegol without saying anything after.

EDIT: Forgot to say that it doesn’t look like Leia says any good lines. I just looked through all of them thanks to Octorox.
