Hey Ell that is cool if you want to make your own covers but there are covers included in the DVD_ROM folder. Also this is not the SE set, just in case you thought it was, guessing that you do since your covers are based on the SE covers.

I've been kindly supplied with a complete set of this fantastic transfer and I'm willing to PIF to 2 people (preferably in the UK).

PM me if you are interested. Cheers.

p.s. Keep up the good work Don Segaflip...

Same here. Got the set (thanks a ton, Sega!) and will PiF to the first couple folks who PM me. May take a little while, though, as I am currently making lots of PiF's on the Beastly/MeBeJedi '77 Bootleg Tape and am in need of a new spindle (or two, or three, or four).

I received the discs. And Dark Jedi, this trilogy set blows your Definitive and SE transfers out of the water. This is SO much more detailed than the others and a great set.

Thanks so much for this great work!

I received my set last week (thanks Segaflip!), and it does look good. I also have plenty of DVDs, so if anybody wants the set, I can send some out - just PM me (especially those stuck on dial-up).

Just to repeat my post... I'm also happy to PIF this set. I'm in the UK but can also sort out postage to abroad.

Please Mr. Postman, look and see
if there's a letter in your bag for me ....

segaflip, I'm wondering if you never received my snail mail addy, which I sent by PM on September 20 ?
Maybe your PM box was full at the time, or maybe my box was too full ...
... or mabye I'm just too impatient.
Anyway, I'm still very much interested in that Special Collection set you offered me,
and I've cleared stuff from by PM box so it's not full now.

Alternatively, I'd be happy to wait if you'd add Special Collection to your a.b.sw "Q"

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Thank you !
If by chance I end up with two copies, then I'll just have to PIF twice.

Inbetween capping TESB for my trilogy I've been taking a closer look at this Dark/Sega Special Collection version, removing the 3:2 pulldown, adjusting the white balance/hue/saturation so things look 'right' and it's leaving me with a single thought... I WANT THIS JAPANESE LASERDISC SET!

The test results I'm getting are showing that it could really give the PAL transfers a run for their money, firstly it doesn't suffer the interlace/jaggies problem of the definitive set but the main reason being they didn't use any temporal smoothing to reduce grain, no smearing during motion!

Check this short XviD clip out, first half is from my PAL LDs (I had to increase the brightness to match), the 2nd half from the Dark/Sega SC DVD, on the Dark/Sega part you can see the rockface in detail whereas on the PAL sourced version it's badly smeared (same on the Definitive & Faces discs), the blurred smearing is not a result of the cleanup filters I use - whoever authored the LDs did that.

Knowing my luck it's probably as rare as chickens teeth and costs an arm and a leg

You're right, that 2nd shot looks much better. There's a set on ebay at a straight buy for $222, item #6434977695.

I'm sorry if I'm missing something, guys, but....isn't this the same transfer as the US '92 widescreen set, only with the picture centered and no Japanese subtitles? If so, this would seem to be at least as good to transfer.

Thanks!

About a £170 arm and a leg with postage it is then it's not something I could look at affording this year if I were to have a bash at transferring it. Something I noticed was how out of whack the colours were on the Dark/Sega transfer, you get the colours right for one scene and look at another scene with those settings and the colours are wrong again, I don't know if it's due to the capturing hardware/software or if it's like that on the laserdiscs.

What's the '92 US widescreen set, different from the Definitive Collection I take it?

When this set was mastered in 1986, the source prints were only 3-9 years old - therefore probably not as degraded as when the 1995 laserdiscs were mastered. Dirt and grain were not such a problem - hence, no dirt concealment/temporal smoothing was required.

I detest temporal smoothing, it 'taints' films I feel, if there's only a little amount of dust/scratches as with this Japanese set there's no need for it because your own eyes/brain do a much better job of ignoring them than poor quality brute-force filters like those used on the Definitive/Faces/PAL THX discs, so will in the future probably be looking towards getting the earliest widescreen discs so I can try to make a high quality no-smear trilogy set of my own.

Yes- definitely. I'm almost positive it's the exact same transfer as the Japanese Special Collection, only 1. No subtitles, 2. Centered picture, and 3. You'll probably be able to find it a lot easier for a lot more money.

But I know it's not the Definitive Collection- I'm almost positive it's the exact same transfer as the Japanese one. Hope that helped!

if you look at the NFO you will see what i used to capture and encode, and like i said SEVERAL times i DONT FILTER,i dont really know how and dont have the patience and time,so if you want this set(Jap LD's) ask segaflip to let YOU capture it and do what you will with it,he sent it to me maybe he will send it to you.

I know you didn't do any filtering but the software to capture/encode still makes a difference, just looked at the nfo on the disc, I use a Canopus ADVC-100 which has identical conversion hardware to yours and it's conversion is good which would suggest the colour variations are on the discs themselves. Out of curiosity what DV codec do you use? I tested a few different ones before settling on Canopus' own one, the others I tried introduced colour alterations and/or over sharpening.

to be honost i am not 100% sure, believe it or not i am still really new at this,i believe the canopus codec as well, all these projects started out just to be for myself, but Rikter and others convinced me other wise, but i believe my capturing career is now finished.
