In my mind, Han showing up is simply the visual representation of Ben’s inner monologue - he’s not actually there. The scene is just for the purpose of filming something visually. “Leia channeling the Force into a medal that Han wore for 45 seconds one time 30 years ago, in order to project a conscious, sentient image of her dead husband to their son, who is halfway across the galaxy, several hours after her own death (because Finn and Poe have managed to fix the busted, crashed Falcon, leave Endor, and get all the way back to the Resistance before we see Kylo again)”…yeah, I don’t buy it.
If you wanted a visual metaphor for Han, why not use the dice? You know, the dice that were used throughout the previous movie to represent Han?

YES! Oh man, the dice work so well there. It’s not even implausible with the fake ones disappearing on Crait. After the First Order captured the Falcon (the last place we saw the real dice), wouldn’t Ben have taken them from the ship?
I’m not quite as sold about some of the voice over - Leia talking to Rey as her son is dying feels a bit off to me, and Han’s dialogue about “what [Rey] stood for” doesn’t quite seem to work in this context; but I do like the idea of Ben having some sort of internal monologue before reviving Rey - perhaps “memory” clips, rather than “Force Ghost conversations”? (Han wasn’t really that in tune with the Force anyway.)

So apparently the festival on Pasaana is all about “honoring the past and looking forward to the future” according to Wookiepedia. All the more reason why Luke’s final stand would be a fitting inclusion.
The camera only shows the puppet show for a split second, and I’m pretty sure somebody on here already created a fitting image of it. If I could get ahold of the image I’d try to insert it into the video (while still allowing movement all around the puppets)

What story can be hinted at within 24 frames though? It’s hard to create Luke disappearing or light sabers etc. A gorilla walker would be easy but it’s tricky for it to be clear enough it’s Luke.

Well like I said, nothing in particular has to happen exactly. Maybe a laser bolt hitting him but then nothing happens to the Luke figurine. Cue alien children laughing.
As for the clarity of it being Luke, if you were watching the movies back to back you’d know what it’s referring to. Especially since the previous movie ends with the exact same scene being illustrated with toys.
I think if you wanted to REALLY clarify what is happening, someone could overdub a alien voice over for the puppeteer and have them say “Skywalker” while they’re doing the show.

Well, guess I’ll have to allocate some time in the near future to go digging here. If I find out afterwards that it’s in a completely different thread I may go crazy. Just saying.
I legitimately remember seeing the image and people commenting on how cool it looks. So I know it’s somewhere on this site.
If I find it, I’ll probably start looking at some internet tutorials on how to implement an image seamlessly into video. Because I agree that it would really be the capstone of this edit.

What do you think of those images from that video? There’s a shot of each puppet with whitish backgrounds. It could be easy to use the puppetry tool to animate.
The background of the original shot would be fairly easy to content fill. There’s just one point where the wind blows the material behind that may be tricky.
There is also a shot of Vader, 3P0, R2, Leia & a Stormtrooper in one scene. Maybe just use that telling “A New Hope” story instead of TLJ?

So, I’m no expert, but I believe if you cut out just the puppet display and put it over the video it would mostly work, right? Besides adjusting for the wind I believe.

That’s the one. Really nice idea. Those simple shapes do symbolise TLJ very well. We could roto they toy from the little boy in TLJ, just need an image that looks like a gorilla walker.

Well I personally doubt these aliens would know the difference between the new gorilla walkers and the walkers of the past. When stories like these travel, some of the details like that might be lost.
Moving the images digitally won’t cut it, they need natural 3D motion, I’ve got a good green screen at home, if I could create those puppets physically, I could move them around on sticks to make it look like it was filmed.
It might be good to have Luke and the walker falling which would explain why the kids are laughing.

Yeah, honestly I would appreciate it if Luke’s story has been like a game of intergalactic telephone: the details are getting more and more extreme as it passes from one party to another. Maybe he could send the fire right back at the walker.
