That’s a really good point! With it being the opening of the film, a really solid facelift can set the tone for the fan edit.

I think that’s a very good point. I had the same thought and have looked on and off for a better second shot with burnt trees to match, but so far no dice.

What about this (watermark doesn’t appear for a couple seconds at the beginning):

Also tbh we’re kinda killing time while stuff like Rey’s blade and Luke’s hair are worked on.

Well if that’s the case, speaking of ways to slow down the movie’s pacing: here’s a small edit I made that adds an establishing shot of the cave on Ajan Kloss.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Whoa! That’s pretty nice!

And Burbin, that’s a step up with the castle shot.

About the trees, I read the scene as it stands as the forest being below the castle so there wouldn’t be trees up that high to see during the first shot. The trees don’t match between shots but I bet real forests can be that way too, maybe?

Hmm anyone want to add a pine or two to the main scene? Lol

And yeah we have delved into the opening, but it’s important as it opens the whole film and we’re waiting around for the last few main pieces.

If someone was extra skilled with CGI, instead of seeing trees up with the castle, what out trying to add stuff behind the castle’s valley? It may be such a quick spot, but it could subconsciously weave the scenes together. Or it would stick out. I dunno, it’s very apparant a bunch of stuff was cut out of the film at the beginning to make it feel so rushed.

I like the concept but I don’t think it would work since it’s clearly a game render and would be a bit jarring

The way the beginning of the Mustafar Minute is currently assembled gives the transition such a visually smooth feel (pesky tree details aside) that it feels like a final to me, too. I’d be worried about new tree elements match-moving properly to such a dynamic shot.

I think to a layman or even die-hard fans who haven’t been looking at this over and over, it should read just fine. The quality that this community strives for is astounding though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone adds even more polish!

It might be passable, since there’s no weird camera movement or people in the shot. Maybe if the movement could be smoothed out a bit (or maybe there’s just something off with the framerate of the youtube upload), and perhaps some sort of filter over it to make it grainier and better match the color of the previous shot (in Hal’s recolored version).

Even as-is though, I like it. Honestly it looks like it could be a shot out of any Prequel, but maybe that’s not a compliment.

Looks like the Ajan Kloss map in Battlefront 2

The only thing I would change if adding in the shot would be to change the transition from a wipe to a straight cut. The wipe feels too abrupt and very much like a fan edit.

Ah ok. While I’m here I will say that I’m not completely convinced about the Ajan Kloss gameplay. Gives me the same vibes as the Battlefront 2 stormtrooper landing.

I thought it was fan-rendered, but it makes sense it’d be from a video game.

I guess video games have come a long way since I regularly played any. So, like 2003.

The shot could maybe be color corrected to match better.

The Skywalker Saga:

This is the way.

Yeah, it looks like it’s got some sort of color cast? Maybe sharpen it a little bit, too. I haven’t played a Star Wars game since the Lego ones, but I think it could be made to work.

In the topic of switching up the trees, would it be possible to re-colour the trees from Mandalorian: The Jedi? Is there a shot in there that could be laid underneath the TIEs?

To be honest, I like the transition on Ajan Kloss as it is. Not everything needs an establishing shot, and I don’t think adding more of them really addresses the film’s pacing problems in a meaningful way.

Honestly, I’m not so sure about the castle shot either. It still looks too obvious that it was ripped from Rogue One for me.

The transition scene is, very game render look and is jarring. It’s impressive what games can do, don’t get me wrong, but it sticks out big time.

@JakeRyan17 … Good question!

I just took a peek at the episode and I’m pretty sure that every aerial shot has Mando’s ship in it so it would have to be edited out. Additionally, the camera is really low to the ground (like below the trees kinda low). Not sure that it would work.

I mainly think it helps because we never get a look at what their base actually looks like in the movie. There’s no sense of location in Ajan Kloss, it always just feels like they’re on a set somewhere that’s sometimes dark blue and sometimes bright yellow. This one shot gives you a better idea for the rest of the movie of where exactly they are in the inner-base scenes. It may be the most obviously cgi shot in the movie if we use it, but ironically it may help the Resistance base feel more like a real place and less like the awkward fake location that all of the recycled TFA Leia scenes have to be contained.

Also, I really do think establishing shots can go a decent way in at least making pacing more bearable. I’m reminded of seeing Batman v Superman in theaters and getting whiplash every time they cut to a new interior location, vs watching the extended cut on home video and thinking “oh, there’s all the transitional shots; guess they cut them all to make more time for nonsense dream sequences in the theatrical.” And Rise of Skywalker definitely gave me some BvS vibes in the theater (though probably for several reasons).

Agreed completely, until the training flashback it’s just a random jungle and even then there’s still no actual sense of setting if that makes sense.

Retimed some of the effects to better sync with the video. Dual of the Fates, remixed with Kylo’s Theme and Rey’s Theme:

No worries if we want to keep it as John Powell’s original arrangement. I just did this largely as a personal experiment.

I just watched the scene in Rogue One which it is ripped from and it legitimately took me an entire minute to realize where we ripped it from in the landing sequence. IMO the color difference, reversal, and mirroring of the image make it look completely original.
