I’m not at all ruling out a shot of Vader‘s castle to open us up on Mustafar. However, I think at worst it would be just fine to have the castle show up in the background. I think that’s a good inclusion even on its own.

I think that hiding the lava is probably doable, either via some color correction or replacement.
The trees would be harder, as they would need to be tracked to match the speed and pan of the camera.

On the topic of Vader’s castle, I recall seeing another thread where someone rotoscoped video using shots of the castle from Rogue One.

I do think those establishing shots greatly improve the sequence—particularly the TIEs flying around the castle. The troopers running out may not be necessary, though I do like extending the sequence as the whole film moves too fast.
Where did we ever land on getting a shot of the castle? Or did we pass on it?
Oh it mostly works very well ! I would definitely like to see the Castle shot with the Ties inserted in Ascendant. The video game footage, not so much though.

Totally agree. I was gonna try to remove the lava once all shots are in place. It doesn’t make sense to have the planet healing while still burning.

I think flipping and editing a shot from a different movie is fair game because Lucas did it for the SEs. Spot the differences!
These are both from the 2011 Blurays by the way, highlighting the oversaturated grade that ROTJ release had, and also the DNR present on that TPM release (the latter issue unfortunately persisted to the latest TPM release).

Yeah, it is super common to Blockbuster movies reuse shots from other previous movies, but we have to use this notion wisely because it could look lot fan-editty if not well done.

I think best approach would be submerging the castle amongst a large chunk of mist or trees that are either in frame in the distance or out of focus in front of the camera, also think the lava fall needs to go and maybe the castle lights should be out to show Vader’s not home. Should be enough to look significantly different from Rogue One shot.

That is awesome. We could just use that shot, add some animated fog or clouds or something to give it a little movement, maybe the flash of blaster fire from the forest below, and have TIEs flying overhead or something, sort of like that other est. shot poppa made. That shot on its own is really cool not to use.

At the risk of annoying everybody, I put together another version of my tie sequence including a brand new shot of the ties with the castle in the background.
Please keep in mind that I’m doing this purely for my own enjoyment, not to try to impress anyone or to try to convince Hal9000 to include this in his edit. I’ll be putting this in my own personal edit, but if anyone wants to use it in theirs, that would be cool, too.

WOW!!! I honestly cheered when I saw how fluid the shots all connect, holy. With some fine tuning, that could be absolutely perfect. For example, maybe tone down how much… happens. It happens quick. Perhaps too many Stormtroopers are there, considering we only see like 1 or 2 dead on the ground when Kylo is all alone in silence.

I love the way this ending sounds! I recently watch the “Anti-Cringe” cut and another one called “The Final Sith”. I’ve been looking for a edit with the force ghosts! Can’t wait to watch.
Well, I just brought mysfel to watch this film for the first time I walked out of the cinema a year ago in confusion and anger. It needed a year’s dedicated work by Hal9000 and all the contributors to do that. All I can say is that they did what is humanely possible to salvage TROS. We all should be very grateful for the efforts they put in for the ideas and the execution.

I think this is the best middle-ground choice possible, though I wouldn’t mind to see the concept art Cinefy posted come to life.

Yeah its essentially just the altered Rogue One shot; I’d happily do it just can’t access the 4k footage atm, may also be able to animate the First Order ties in blender too.
