It is crazy to speak of censorship here, since the Original Versions do exist on DVD from other people. Also, Picasso's are one of a kind. The LD's are not. I can't argue about the Noddy books because I agree that they should not have been censored. I've never read them or heard of them until now, but I hate the fact that they edited them after her death.

I myself am doing my own version once I get off my lazy butt. I haven't determined what I am going to do exactly yet. I do plan on putting the snowspeeder spinning out of control and crashing sound effects back in as they were omitted from the Pre SE THX LD releases. I'm also hoping to do dual layer versions once DVD Writers that can do Dual Layer -R come out. To be safe, I will probably buy one that can do Dual Layer +R and -R.

Speaking of Dual Layer, a new beta version of TMPGEnc 2.5 is available that can do 8.5Gb DVD's. I can't wait until the full version comes out as I do not like TMPGEnc Xpress (AKA 3.0).

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I like what I see so far MeBe.

Ahh Danielb, if you really cared you would do it yourself and stop whining. End of of story.
Haven't got time or resources? Youd make time and get the gear if you *really* cared.
The fact that you haven't even shown an inkling in that direction means you don't care as much as you'd like to make out. It reminds me of people in my town that get outraged that no-one is helping the poor and destitute that litter our streets - they complain about it, and get on their soap box and demand that something be done - but I don't see them down with us in the soup kitchens at 7 in the morning.

So it really means the preservation of this trilogy is a low priority for you, and that's fine - but stop giving everyone else a hard time about it. If you pitch in to help, well and good and you will even find people willing to help, and you can do it your way.

Going on your argument, the original trilogy should *never* be watched on a television at all.
The changes required to get it onto TV (massive drop of resolution, totally different colour space) causes a big change in the way the film works (e.g. in wide shots you cannot see character's facial expressions which you can on film, which changes the effect of certain shots, which is why Cameron preferws Pan and Scan for some of his releases)

Enid Blyton's books have been preserved and archived, they are not going to disappear, new censored versions (that I don't think is a good idea) are out in addition to the old ones, and will perhaps let people share the essence of the great stories with their kids, that might not have done so otherwise because of worries over racial issues etc. because they were written when the world was a different place. I don't like it, but there is a place for modified versions.

As for original paintings, nearly every aging painting you see in galleries *is* restored, i.e. other painters have gone over them, added paint and repaired them - this is standard practice.

But really, your views are known, so start your own forums about them and discuss them, as it just causes all of these ones to go off topic really. (ANd I never need much encouragement to do that!)

"Anyway, I just wanted to say that I like what I see so far MeBe."

Thanks. My initial MPEG looks okay, but whiel I've gotten rid of the small specks, I'm tempted to run the AVI through the MSI smoother (noise remover?) because there are some large blankets of discoloration and changing colors that would be difficult to really address properly. I'll try to get some screenshots available, but the real difference is in the video - it's difficult for me to watch ISMOMIX's version (the only one I have on DVD) because of the glitches and such. This is not to say his transfer is flawed, since my LD's suffer the same problems. It's just that after spending 2 months removing all that crap, it really sticks out to me now. I may create some "before/after" videos of the worst parts just to illustrate the difference.

Oh, and apparently VirtualDub is better at pointing out some of these glitches than Combustion. I've apparently missed a few, and so am using the programs concurrently for the second wave. (Hey, might as well finish the clean-up job.)

As for DanielB, be careful not to feed the trolls.

That's good that the original versions of the books are also available.

MeBe,

That's cool that VirtualDub will help out even more. I really like that little program. I agree about using multiple programs concurrently. It is the best way to cover everything since I have yet to find a single program that can do it all unless you can afford 1000's of dollars. I'm really going to have to get on the ball on my project.

Just for my own sake of clarification, because your usage of the past-tense ("was") concerns me, will you still please place them on myspleen when they are completed?

thanks!

Well, fellow Capitalists...I was hoping to have a copy of my transfer on alt.binaries.starwars today, but I ran the wrong transfer. Since it takes 6 hours to compile, and I had other chores to do on the computer, it will have to wait until tomorrow morning.

It will be about 1.3 Gbs, at 24fps, and there will be a small "mebejedi" logo on the bottom right hand corner to keep people from making a DVD with the footage before it is done.

Just out of cursiority, if I were to put this transfer on Usenet, how many people here would be able to download it?

What's the point, since I'm going to make my transfer MY way. If YOU don't like it, too bad, BUT DON'T COME IN HERE BITCHING AND WHINING BECAUSE YOU AREN'T GETTING THE VERSION YOU WANT!

I love that this statement is showing up on OriginalTrilogy.com

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about sticking a logo in the bottom corner of the frame. If you improve the transfer and you want to stick it on the binaries newsgroup again, just put a note in there--the people who'd pull it off of that ng probably have no problem deleting the old one and burning a new one.

Well.... we'd graciously take them any way you'd share them...but most here are probably geared for Torrenting such as on the great MySpleen. I did read a little about downloading via usenet and the question is which program would be the best since obviously a web browser can't be used in this application due to size. another question is regarding bandwidth.... if you post these via usenet and all of us leechers want a copy is there enough bandwidth?? (please excuse my ignorance on usenet transfers). With torrenting.... at least seeders can be created to further help with distributing copies

Why not just post it or have Blaksvn post it on MySpleen or even SuprNova??
Here comes the whine: "I just learned how to torrent effectively, I dunno how to usenet!!"

Anyways... I'm really looking forward to seeing your work... after Blaksvn gave a favorable review with your early screener version

"I love that this statement is showing up on OriginalTrilogy.com"

I admit it: it's the capitalist in me. Besides, there are different versions depending on one's source material as well. I've had many people question my use of the Faces set over the Def. Col., and there's a certain someone here who doesn't approve of using any NTSC version.

"the people who'd pull it off of that ng probably have no problem deleting the old one and burning a new one."

Oh, believe me, I know. However, they would have to recompile the MPEG, so they'd be stuck with a lower-quality version. It's just quality control, that's all. I want to keep track of what versions I'm putting out.

PolyMeR, I'm only done with the first third, and I just wanted some input on the work so far. That being said, it's beginning to look like most people in here (including Rikter) don't use newsgroups, so I probably won't bother. I just didn't know if putting a partial version on MySpleen would make sense - not that I have a problem with it either way. Since it takes quite a bit of time to finish each section, I just wanted people to get a glimpse of what's happened so far.

"after Blaksvn gave a favorable review with your early screener version"

Believe me - this one looks far better.

A torrent would be good, What size is the file MeBe?

Regarding NTSC or PAL, just as long as its an improvment over whats available already who cares? I would like a PAL version thats why I'm doing my own one but I still want to see all Mebe's hard work

I would, provided my ISP's news server is not having an off day. I prefer Usenet anyway, because my upstream is so slow so it takes me ages to seed a torrent back up to a 1.0 ratio.

I tend to just seed stuff and announce it on suprnova, no limits or other silly stuff then. I find usenet causes me grief, and some other systems misread my system and won't let me use them.

Sorry, folks, but I'll be taking an extended leave from these boards. Hopefully, someday, you'll see my transfer on MySpleen. It's going to be a while, so be patient. I can be reached by e-mail, but I won't be checking PMs.
