All that remains before a final V1 release can proceed:

French subtitles (native speaker is reviewing what Burbin produced)
Cover artwork (when Movies Remastered is able to finish assembling it)

That is all! (And nevertellmetheodds has done Dutch subtitles as well. There may be German to follow, but I won’t let it hold up a release.)

I’m a native German speaker. If you like, I can have a look at it and I see what I can do. I’ve never actually worked with subtitles, tbh, but I’ve stumbled across a tool called “Subtitle Edit”, which seems easy enough to use. Would that suffice or are there better solutions?

I’d recommend the free program Aegisub as a good subtitle editor.

I’m still holding out hope as it’s my favorite/the most important edit to me.

Is anyone else giving it a shot?

Removed lightspeed skipping sequence. It made no sense given how hyperspace has always been depicted, as quick travel, not teleportation. Now, the Falcon bursts through the ice wall while jumping to hyperspace, and the pursuing TIEs peel off, ending the scene (visual FX by poppasketti)

As bad as that sequence is… the point of it is to reinforce Poe’s recklessness.

It’s not necessary though, that same recklessness can be inferred from him smashing through the ice and the general damage to the falcon on his return to base.

You don’t need another universe breaking use of light speed in the mix.

Agreed. Plus the TIES actively tracking the falcon and able to PERFECTLY predict each stop and go to/from hyper speed, from Poe randomly making those choices went beyond being beyond too far.

I think Poe’s recklessness was established well enough in The Last Jedi.

I was just going to say that. Let’s pretend the characters had a minimum of evolution since the previous film.

I mean, I think Poe’s character development in TLJ was more about learning to become a mature leader. Doesn’t mean he can’t still do risky shit on his own

(FWIW I really liked the lightspeed skipping scene)

It felt like a Star Trek scene… maybe that’s just because something similar was done in one of Abrams’ Trek films, and was done again with beaming as recently as the season three premiere of Discovery.

I get that it’s a cool looking scene, and I get that people don’t like the “Holdo Manoeuvre”… but that at least had basis in Star Wars as far back as the original film. The skipping goes against how light speed has otherwise worked, as people are most often sitting around and waiting while in hyperspace.

It’s pretty, but doesn’t really work.

My instinct is to point out that Lightspeed Skipping doesn’t actually go against how it works, because the jumps are pre-programmed, but I get the spirit of the thought, that it’s poorly implimented and poorly explained.

Lightspeed travel has been depicted as rapid travel, not teleportation. It’d be like me having a jet plane, traveling to various places on Earth. It still takes me longer to travel to Paris from LA than to New York City.
What I see in the lightspeed skipping sequence is randomly popping up all over the globe, which doesn’t make sense.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yes, but you have to think of that jet plane as travelling at the speed of light. At those speeds, the difference between traveling to Paris or New York City are mere milliseconds at best.
My problem with the sequence isn’t the speeds, but rather the fact that the TIEs can follow the falcon through lightspeed.

I don’t understand the issue with this, it seems perfectly reasonable to me for technology to develop over the course of the timeline. For example, in the PT era, Anakin could only get a metal hand but by the time of the OT era, Luke could get a real-looking prosthetic. So I don’t see why hyperdrives couldn’t be progressed into being small/cheap enough for a TIE fighter.

So, things progress more in one year than the previous half century? Damn! Those TIE fighters got upgraded more than flagships?
