Damn, that sounds like a daunting task. I really appreciate how thorough you’re being with this whole endeavor, correcting the transfer’s many errors and getting the movie looking like the 4K83 print (I’m assuming you’re using the ungraded version, not Sanjuro or Dre’s shot-by-shot/reel-by-reel ones). I’m liking the preview screenshots thus far. Fantastic work!

I don’t know if it may help with the grain problem.
But there is a very powerful plugin for Premiere, After Effects and other video editing programs called Neat Video.

It’s not to expensive too.

Something that plagues ROTJ is the fact that so many shots in the film are out of focus. While most aren’t too noticeable, there are two shots at the beginning of the film that have bugged me since 1983.

In the Death Star hangar, when Vader is conversing with Jerjerrod, the focus switches to closeups shot. First shot of Vader is perfectly in focus, then the following 2 shots of Vader are completely out of focus. Lucking this turned out to be a not overly difficult to fix. The lens focus cased the highlights on Vader’s helmet to duplicate, so it was just a case of rotoscoping each detail individually then re-aligning the details to create in-focus shots of Vader and then a little clean up work. This process isn’t likely to work on other out of focus shots though, but at least i’ve been able to fix these the two shots that have bugged me for so long…

That’s always bugged me as well. Fantastic fix, Ady.

Omg, it is sooooo satisfying to flick from the blurred frame to the fixed one. Thank you!

Thanks for the updates. That’s some tremendous work fixing the colour, and the out of focus shot.

You really do pour your heart and soul into these Revisited films, and it really is very much appreciated. The end results are always superb, so thank you for caring enough and having the talent to fix them, not to mention the unadulterated generosity to share your hard work with a grateful world.

Inspired by Sir Ridley, I thought to myself, What if I projected the image of the Death Star into a proper sphere that had the correct volumes of the superlaser, the trench, and the cuts in the surface as the Death Star II?

Here is a broad test. It allows you to move the view slightly. At some point you start seeing the trick, but it could be a nice tool to get static different points of views (by reparing the image a little) or to get slight movement like Sir Ridley suggested.

That’s amazing. I love just how much talent there is in these forums. Could something like this be used on a static image of a ship, like the Executor, just to give it some subtle 3d movement as it moves across the screen?

I guess it would depend on the shot of the Executor you wanted to enhance. What kind of shot did you have in mind?

Also, if you want to use any perspective of that little video I made for different angles of the Death Star, feel free to do so.

That would come in handy for the view of the Death Star from Endor’s surface. Not to mention you could change up the angle for some of the space battle shots.

You could make changes like these:

I mentioned this earlier but the scenes between Han and Leia need to be more intimate.

Han gropes her in the movie. Isn’t that enough? 😉

Anyway, great to catch up. I need to do this more often. I see Ady’s update posts at Twitter, but nice to see the surrounding chatter.

Great job on deblurring Vader, by the way!

Are you still planning on adding more rebel troop action to the Endor ground battle? Is that going to be done with green screen, or are you going to do some actual filing in the Redwoods?

The mad lads got a crew in the Redwoods filming something. I just saw that much mentioned. Totally excited to see what he comes up with

Very cool!

Right! I honestly love the effort he puts into these. From props, miniatures, new scenes with new actors, on site locations, outfits, etc. Just some amazing, top notch hard work and effort.
