Probably a bit late to suggest this but has it been considered to add in this video?

I’m thinking 1:50-6:23 (abruptly cut at the end) would work well as the vision Kylo experiences when he meditates on Vader’s helmet.

-It shows how Kylo struggles with living up to Vader’s legacy (especially with Vader demeaning his as Ben)
-Essentially adds in the Vader/Kylo duel from the DOTF script/concept art
-Could be seen as continuity in him rebuilding his mask? He sees himself in this vision defeating Vader so that could represent him overcoming his internal struggle with Vader’s legacy and then rebuilding his mask because of it
-Overall just a really cool scene

I know Kylo’s vision in this scene has already been edited (in a way I also like 😃 ) but I think this is a really cool alternative that I might put it on my own

We did discuss this, and Hal said that he wasn’t too keen on using footage from a fan film.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

That’s fair. Do you happen to know about when that discussion was? I can’t find it

Fabulous.
I think it would be awesome if we could have the force ghosts watch as the falcon flies into hyperspace. The cherry on top!

Such an improvement!!

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

That would require additional footage of them that we don’t have. Whilst it would be cool, I like the idea that force ghosts manifest only in the presence of someone. They wouldn’t be standing there physically if no one was around.

Hi Hal,

I have been following your fan edits for a long time. Also been keeping an eye on this thread and progress for The Rise of Skywalker and I am eagerly awaiting the final release!

Just wanted to say thank you, and thank you to all the contributors of the project , its really incredible.

I decided to post now, because of the final shot with Luke, Leia and Ben, which looks amazing btw.

I wanted to get your feedback on this idea. Even when I saw it in theaters, I felt the camera cut to quickly from the force ghosts. I had wished there was a couple more seconds of them on screen to extend that final goodbye basically. Now with Ben included, I feel that seeing them for 2 seconds longer (when they come into focus) would hold that emotion even more so.

Anyway, just a thought, not even sure it could be done.

Thanks for reading.

I have no expertise in this area but could you maybe loop the footage once the ghosts are in focus so that the shot could be extended?

Although I guess if you were to extend the shot by even just 2 seconds it would throw the music off.

I feel like to do that right the ghosts would have to step into frame during the last shot. I dunno, might ruin the simplicity and stick out.

I agree with your instinct here, Hal. It would definitely be clunky and undercut the simplicity of it. I like it as is.

I don’t remember, either, but it’s true. Just feels extremely fan film-y and is not needed.

Because we’ve all been so good lately, here’s this in order to appreciate it in context: https://vimeo.com/454916059

This is shaping up very nicely. Very good!

Will there be a new work print soon to implement the Ben solo ghost? 👀

Probably not, until the final product. I’ll probably put up a non-color corrected (not watchable due to audio not matching WIP visuals) ‘sync reference’ for commentary and subtitle work.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Hal, do you happen to have (or would you be willing to supply) the audio for the last “Rey Skywalker” scene sans music between the end of “A New Home” and the End Credits? I’d like to get to work mixing an alternate music ending for myself to be ready once the final edit is out so I can drop it in. It’s literally the only change I’d want to make to this fantastic project for my own viewing pleasure.

Seriously, you (and everyone involved) are doing an incredible job.

Sure, I can do that! I’ll add it to my to do list.

Thank you so much! I’m excited to see how everything comes together! I’ve watched the workprint a couple times, and it definitely has become my go-to version of TROS when I’m sitting down to actually watch, whereas the official release is more a passive watch for me. With the material available, this edit is an incredible salvage job of the jumbled knot that is TROS! I also never got around to saying it, but I love your TFA Restructured edit. Really changes that movie for the better (and it’s a movie I already loved)!
