Ugh, Guess I found this a bit too late… I’m sure these edits were incredible JJ, and it really sucks when a form of plagiarism comes about. It’s gotta be that one asshole that ruins everything… Hopefully you’ll get back into the editing game someday.

Just found this project and read through the thread. Sucks what happened, hopefully this guy will stop with the distribution and uncrediting of JJ.

If I read correctly apparently the extended editions on abc family and the ones released for SS and CoS are different. Didnt realize that when I watched through the extended blu ray that came with the 4k of CoS, are their any examples of their differences?

Yeah. I had avoided getting the official extended discs of SS and CoS since I thought they were the same crappy ABC edits.
On the advice of people here I got them and they are indeed more professional than what ABC/Disney cobbled together.

I think I took issue with a couple of music cues and the fact that in Chamber… they didn’t fix the overdub of Hermione, at dinner, telling Ron and Harry to put on Crabbe and Goyle’s robes.

The overdub was added to the theatrical cut to explain the Slytherin robes they wear later. Hermione saying she got the robes for them from the laundry is a deleted scene. Both shouldn’t be in the same cut of the film.

I was fortunate enough to be one of the people you shared your edits with JJ and they’re the definitive versions to me now. Whenever I see the theatrical version on TV I can always tell when there’s a deleted scene that wasn’t shown as I’m so used to watching yours now.

I can’t believe that someone would do that to you and ruin all of the hard word that you put into making these such high quality and professional quality releases. Whatever decision you make regarding releasing your work in the future I just want you to know that I have always valued your work and appreciate all of the time and effort over the years you’ve put into them. Guys like you are who make the fan-edit community such a brilliant place.

Wow, So very sorry to hear about this A**hat misappropriating your work… I know I don’t chime in often, really ever, but I swing by occasionally to see whats going on. I love movies. I appreciate what all the folks here do, I think its a very creative endeavor. I’m very selective of what gets into my movie collection, very few Fan edits ever make it that far, and I have had the JJpoter fanedits in my collection for some time now, in fact I find we watch them exclusively over the original cuts! Mr. JJPotter, I can certainly understand you desire to protect your work, it is good work for sure. I hope you can find it in yourself to eventually look past this individuals misguided and callous acts, the effort you put in to your work makes it something that a hack cannot duplicate even given 99% of the material being stolen from you. Anybody viewing the work can see the difference for themselves and I have to believe that anybody worthy of appreciating the work would much rather have the authentic version than one that is merely a knockoff… As someone who enjoys your work regularly, I hope you can recover from the trauma caused by on persons lack of respect for your work, that it does not for long rob you of your motivation, and interest in exercising your creativity and willingness to share the product of your efforts for all to enjoy.

My bad idk if you’re talking about the Harry Potter one or the star wars one so I’ll just explain both.

In Chamber of Secrets when Hermione tells Harry and Ron to pluck hairs from Crabbe and Goyle at dinner it cuts to a reaction shot of Harry and Ron looking at eachother and you hear Hermione say “and you’ll need their robes” (or something to that effect. If my understanding of the post is correct Emma Watson never said this line when filming the scene and they had her record it and put it in later.

In Empire Strikes Back when Luke is setting up his camp on Dagobah and plugging in R2 into the power generator, he says “Now all I have to do is find this Yoda…if he even exists”. The line originally ended at “Yoda” when filming and they had Mark Hamil record the “if he even exists” part after. Unlike the CoS add in you dont see Hermione’s face when she says it so you wouldn’t be able to tell (at least I didn’t) unless you had prior knowledge. In ESB Luke’s mouth is open but not moving (enough to say the line) when the line is added in, so it kind of gives off a ventriloquist vibe (I forget what youtuber I heard make that comparison, probably HelloGreedo if I had to guess based on my watch history). In the DVD they tried to make Luke’s mouth move but you can still tell. Theres a little blurb on it on the ESB IMDB in the category “goofs” under “Audio/visual unsynchronized” if you want to read more, but that’s pretty much the gist of it.

I didn’t know about the ADR line from Chamber of Secrets, but I already knew about the one from The Empire Strikes Back. I’m a bit confused that they kept that line in the extended edition, considering that Harry and Ron didn’t put on Crabbe and Goyle’s robes, and Hermione snuck out Slytherin robes from the laundry for them to wear.

The added line was to explain where the Slytherin robes they end up wearing came from. The scene with Hermione saying she stole some Slyntherin robes from the laundry was deleted. Whoever re-edited probably didn’t notice. Most people don’t.

But hey, they fixed a LOT of other errors from the ABC cut. Mouths out of sync to dialog, repeated shots, Harry flipping through the diary in the same direction more than once, etc. I’ll allow one bad line (and some improper music cues).

I just heard that these are no longer available. That’s a shame as you have continuously done superb work. I’ve had my edits ripped off before and I can understand the frustration attached to that. No doubt you, like myself, poured countless hours into your edits. While it’s frustrating and even disheartening, I personally don’t understand why you’d totally remove them because of one or a few people making lower quality copies. There will always be people who rip-off creatives. Always someone who will try to get a sub or a like from someone else’s work. The original directors and editors may very well be feeling the same feelings about fan edits and view them as being a defaced version of their work. Thankfully they still persist. Giving in and pulling out is letting those who copy your work win. We need you and your edits in our communities. Other’s low quality copies are simply there because everyone knows you’ve made gems. The real fans will use a Google search to find the best quality versions. Anyway, I hope you reconsider. You’re a fanedit of the month alum that stands as an example of consistency and quality. It’s a shame to lose your work and your creative excitement.

Since what I had planned on being a v1.7 release was ruined by someone else, I have taken time away from the community for a while. Recently I found the spark to start editing again and have decided to work toward a v2.0 release at some point in the future. I don’t know when that will be exactly, so don’t get too overly excited or ask me for previous versions. I will make my edits available again once I have completed the edits that I want to make and have found a new way to release them.

As a teaser, I have completed new intros for my releases. In my playlist, I also include intros for Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Those will not be released publicly. While I made my own edits of those films, they are different enough from the officially released extended editions.

Finally, the HP Extended Editions shields are being retired and are now replaced with WW Extended Editions shields for “Wizarding World”.

I’m really happy to hear you are back to this project.
Hope everything goes well for you.

I admire the effort you put into the new intros. They do look really good.
Sorry to say I’m not as big of a fan of these. They feel much slower, the music doesn’t feel as fun. It’s very upbeat and brings up hype, but not as magical / whimsical.
But mostly, these intros show of some actual scenes, such as Voldemort getting the Elder Wand.
I know these are technically made for yourself, and shared with those who are already fans of the HP movies.
But I can still see somebody watching your fan edits as their very first time watching the movies (if somebody recommends it to them, which I totally would do, when / if you bring them back, I would recommend anyone who hasn’t seen the films to just go straight to your fan edits), thus those scenes being spoilers.

Just sharing my opinion.

Either way, good luck with the project, wherever it goes now.

I am so glad you are back my friend.

In due time I look forward to seeing your new cuts and updates. Your versions have become my households go to versions of the films.

Thank you for deciding to continue with the edits. You are appreciated and hoping for the best.

Glad to have you back, buddy.

I agree with Drew, though. As much as I appreciate your effort, the Marvelification feels really out of place.

Well, I spent a long time putting these new intros together for the new version. My original intro was a takeoff of Marvel as well. These are what will go on my new edits. I’m sorry if there are those that do not like the work.

This is great news! Welcome back!

About the new intros: They look really great and I like them as a sort of intro, but I have to agree with Drew Drakofolis on the spoiler part.

Thanks for the feedback on the intros. Since I’ve gotten lots of negative responses about them, I’ll be pulling them and looking for other options.

For version 2.0, are you going to redo/improve the VFX and green/blue screen backgrounds?
