Instead of re-using the line from ROTS maybe you could use the line from the trailer: “long have I waited, and now… The day of victory is at hand, the day of the Sith.”
That line is in the film as well.
Ah I see. Although an obstical that I can see with using either the line from the trailer or from ROTS is isolating the lines from the music.

I don’t think it’s needed, anyway. Seems like, “The day of victory is at hand… the day of the Sith,” works just fine, given that it’s a short set of footage to work with.
-holographic/transmission sound-
“At last the work of generations is complete, the day of victory is at hand, the day of the sith.
Send the fleet to the galaxy…let it burn.
The Final order begins”
“Yes my lord”I would say this might be best. (Might have to skip the “Fortnight” message part altogether.) But, the Pryde Palpatine scene would either become very short, or lost, though. I do like spelling out that the First Order is going there to man the ship, and that scene is the only real way in any version of the film to soundly imply that.
Since kijjimi doesn’t get blown up in your version the line “Send the a ship to a world they know” is gone by default. The only line you actually lose is “the final order begins” which isn’t really much and you don’t lose any info from the scene.
“The Princess of Alderaan has disrupted our plan, but her foolish act will be in vain. Come to me on Exogol, general Pryde”
“As I served you in the old war, I serve you know.”
“She will come, her friends will follow”
End Scene
This would work nicely as a pay off for the leaked message at the start of the film. Yes Hux was the First Order spy, but Pryde was a spy of another sort. Perhaps this could imply that Hux knew about Prydes allegiance and wanted to rat him out to Ren, while also revealing the Final Order. Two birds one stone.

“Long have I waited” in trailer is not the same as one from movie

I was gonna type something but had my hands full so just quoted myself. But I think it works fine to just use the contents of the clip itself.
Hello all, I’ve been on a trip so I haven’t had the chance to work on the Crackle saber but I just returned home a couple days ago and have gotten back to work on it. Here is a very, very early test on Rey vs Kylo in the Force Dyad Lightsaber fight (so early that the entire scene isn’t finished yet lol) but I just wanted to update y’all on progress.

As always, any issues that stick out to y’all, let me know. This is a super early test though so I haven’t really applied any polish to it yet.

Good to have you back! This looks great! Seeing the two crackling sabers in the same shot is selling me even more on the effect you’re doing.
The only issue I spotted while watching on Mobile is when Rey lifts her saber and tells Kylo “You’re lying” the mask used lasts for a couple frames too long and overlaps over Kylo’s face when it cuts to his face.
After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

This looks magnificent, dude! keep it up!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but we haven’t yet heard Hal’s sound mixing for Rey’s crackly saber, haven’t we?

Not that I have seen but I am beyond excited to see these scenes with the audio mixed in!

I’ll try to post a clip if I get the chance tomorrow during the day!
I don’t know if you guys were still thinking about removing the “Knights of Ren” line when they’re passing the two stormtroopers, but now you officially can’t, because it’s Karl Urban’s voice 😛
Kewlfish, I can’t seem to make anything of the clip you posted of Rey’s training sequence. It appears to be in a codec none of my tools can process. Any ideas, or could you perhaps export to ProRes?
Here’s a clip anway, with my audio but no visual changes yet. The effect isn’t super audible very often, nor should it be. https://vimeo.com/442788429
Looking at the effect, I think maybe it could/should be a little more subtle? In keeping with the audio mix also being more subtle. Maybe less of a constant crackle? Not only would this be less work (from a practical standpoint) but if you choose which shots should have the blade sort of shimmer/undulate with energy every now and again, it’d make it obvious that the reforged blade isn’t fully whole, but not as in-turmoil or disturbed as Kylo’s is.
Right now, it looks like its’ effectively the same energy moving through both blades, and the idea here is, from what I’ve gathered, that Rey’s blade is SIMILAR, but not exactly the same on that note. She did a better job fixing the blade that was broken (LOTR, I know, but still) and I think the best way to get that across is by only subtly manipulating the image - essentially, every 5-10 seconds or so there’s a ripple of unstable energy that crackles and rolls from hilt to point and back again.
LOL, I just realized that the effect I’m kind of describing is (and this is for the old-folks here) a faulty vertical hold on a tube tv. Not EXACTLY that same effect, but something along those lines. The picture is mostly stable, but it jitters some, and every now and again it just ROLLS before settling back down.
I agree with Broom Kid. I imagined a slight rolling bulge (heh) or wave more than that much static or movement on the surface of the blade.
That being said, full re-renders are a pain, especially the type of deformation I was imagining. However I do still like what’s there in Kewlfish’s WIP clip, because the thing was ripped in half… so either way could make sense.
Anyone mind hitting me with a DM link to the latest workprint? I’ve been lurking on and off, and now I am at least a version behind (and curious to see the latest).
It seems like a more subtle affect like you guys describe would be perhaps to settle. I personally don’t have any problem at all with what he’s done so far.

It’s subtle. I like it.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
I think if the visual is too subtle only nerdy forum geeks like us will pick it up. I think it needs to act as clear visual shorthand for “it was broken, now it’s fixed, but imperfectly” and I think the kewlfish version accomplishes that.
