He’s actually a professional film director in Spain. Probably got a lot on his plate.

I’ve been thinking about the way the music comes in at the very end of the movie, leading into the credits. I can’t fade it in very elegantly because it comes right on the heel of a loud final note of the Resistance theme.

Anyone have or can contrive a light note that can be brought in first and give way to the existing music? The Force theme sometimes has one more note than what is currently there to lead into it.

Are you talking about the music that fades in when Rey turns to look at Luke and Leia? Honestly, I had no idea that wasn’t the original music. It sounds totally fine to me, but maybe I’m just not observant enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Or you haven’t agonized over making it sound good! lol

But yeah, that’s right. Maybe even a half second of that first note from elsewhere could sound all right. I have no idea; maybe I’ll just need to give it a shot when I can.

There’s a way in audition where you can compile a remix of 2 tracks to fit a length of time perfectly. I’ve not tried it personally yet but I was thinking of using it on the same sequence.

Fair enough, it works either way.

I’ve been working on the subtitles and I gotta say, it still feels off to not have the words “First Order” and “Resistance” be capitalized on the crawl, since they were on both TFA & TLJ. On TFA “FIRST ORDER”, “NEW REPUBLIC” & “RESISTANCE” are capitalized. On TLJ, since the republic is gone, it’s only “FIRST ORDER” & “RESISTANCE”. Then TRoS goes waaay too far, capitalizing “EMPEROR PALPATINE”, “GENERAL LEIA ORGANA”, “REY”, “FIRST ORDER” & “KYLO REN”.

But it would make sense to go back to the way it is in the previous two, it would feel more cohesive, specially since they would work really well with the current crawl: “The tyrannical FIRST ORDER has retaliated” & “to unite the disparate worlds in the name of RESISTANCE.” I think it would be better to keep it consistent amongst this trilogy, rather than looking for a pattern from the previous films.

On a different note, I also think it feels wrong to name drop Mustafar on the crawl, since it only appears for two minutes and is mostly irrelevant to the main plot. The scene is meant to imply Kylo has been scouring the galaxy for a way to reach Exegol. Some previous unseen search (across however many planets) has lead him to the wayfinder on Mustafar. Which is just another stop on his quest for Exegol. Similar to how Rey’s quest leads her to Pasaana, Kijimi & Endor. The way the crawl is right now it sounds like Kylo only went to Mustafar, the original crawl’s description of Kylo “raging in search” made it more clear he was on a larger quest than just a one-two stop.

We all wish Mustafar had more screen time, and there were several attempts to extend the sequence. As it stands right now it works well enough as a small cameo (it would be great to get Fortress Vader in the background, to make it clear it is THE lava planet), but it doesn’t make sense to put it in the crawl, given how it’s really not important.

These two points would really help the crawl feel legit I think.

Can you send them to me once they are finished? I wanted to do Polish and Spanish translations 😉

The audio transition at the end sounds fine to me, didn’t notice any issues. I think you might just be second-guessing yourself.

Well, if another look can make it a little better, great, but I agree it is fine as is.

Burbin is making Spanish subtitles for TROS! He actually was kind enough to take the brunt of doing the English, and possibly French, subtitles as well which will certainly help get this project along to the end. He actually even spruced up the existing prequel edits’ Spanish subtitles, also, which I will put on the Google Drive when finished. (I don’t want to take the edits down, mux the subtitles in, and reupload, though, because they’d be incompatible with the torrents after that point.)

I’m working off of the latest workprint so they’ll need to be resynced once further changes are added in. When the final sync is done I’ll send them to Hal and hopefully he can add them to his Google Drive. 😃

The song “Dark Knight” off Josh Aker’s soundtrack to the video game “Infinity Blade” starts with the exact same two notes on what sounds like the same instrument.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”

With a quick listen it’s definitely a French horn with the same two notes. I just can’t confirm if it’s in the same key right now. If it is, I can do the edit and send it to Hal9000 later tonight.

Well, I finished laying down crackly audio for the saber across the film. Wasn’t difficult, as the crackle doesn’t need to be particularly audible most of the time. Usually the existing audio rising and falling in volume was enough to let the effect present itself as needed. I adjusted volume based on the saber’s proximity to camera and left to right throughout, at least roughly. Again, it’s a subtle enough effect that precision would be overkill much of the time. I used the presence of the saber hum as a guideline; if you can hear one you should hear the other.

Sounds like kewlfish is moving at a pretty good pace with the visuals. That’s still really impressive.

It may end up being jonh that we wait on, and that’s totally understandable.

Alright all, this should be the Final version of Rey’s training sequence (barring any issues that you all notice at the last minute). Also Hal this should be lossless quality and available for download. If it needs to be in a different format let me know and I will try something different.

Rey V Kylo DOTF V2 - Tried recutting the Solo music to stretch it out slightly and also include a small battle of the heroes Anaology/play-in, still kept it subtle; but after seeing people wanted more found a way to pace it in better and still kept it small while also improving it.

Test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_vvc9B9i90. (Forgot to fade it out properly)

I think I prefer the first way you had it, with the theme coming in slowly before we hear the main part as we cut to Rey and Kylo. I then added the first part of the music afterward to bridge to when the existing music comes in the scene. I do plan to turn the volume up, especially toward the end.

And that’s great, kewlfish! I’ll add them to the timeline once you’re happy with the crackle across the whole movie.
