Here’s a first pass on the Leia/R2-D2 corridor scene:

It’s nice to see all that red clipping from the 2011SE gone.

That red blurring also bothered me to a degree. It looks great!

The green may actually be more correct to source but I find the update better in virtually every way.

Hello, guys. So, as I said before, I’m getting this month off from work and I’m planning to work on Despecialized.
Now, the reason I’m writing this post is to ask you guys for donations. I hate to do this but as I’m a freelancer, being out of work means I’m not gonna be getting any income and right now, the VFX industry is kind of f*cked, because all filming has stopped due to COVID, so I’m not even sure there will be much payed work for me in the future. Luckily, if it comes to that, I can survive on savings for a while but I will have to cut any extra expenses, so I could really use some help with the software and hardware expenses for Despecialized.
Any donations to harmypaypal@email.cz are welcome and, of course, any donors will get their names in the credits.

Just to be upfront about this, I can’t actually promise any delivery date on Despecialized - I’m starting over with an all new set of sources and right now, I’m still trying to figure out how to properly work with the HDR sources and it’s a bit frustrating. But I’m talking to some guys about possible collaborations, including oohteedee and DrDre, so hopefully, we’ll figure it out together.

Look forward to it Harmy, donation head your way.👍

I felt the colors still lacked some dynamic quality, and were a bit bland, so here’s an update, that I’m very happy with:

Very slight but the blues might be taking over there, again very minor and all other changes are improvements, keep up the amazing work Dre!

Yeah, I reduced the blue a bit in the middle shot (image updated).

Seeing teal artifacts in the whites.

Those are not teal artifacts. The walls of Tantive IV are a bluish green with creme colored panels. There is some artifacting in some of the shots, which will be fixed, but the walls are not supposed to be white.

Is there any evidence that the walls are supposed to appear as teal on screen. I would imagine the walls were painted teal so they would appear cool white under the tungsten set lighting.

Yes, they appear that way on the 1977, and 1997 prints (of which I have the actual frames), and on the 1989 Derann print, which I recently saw projected. The lighting isn’t Tungsten, but a bit yellowish.

Here’s the color grading of Despecialized 3.0 as it stands now:

Not sure Harmy has been asked this yet BUT…
Will the blue screen shots of the Falcon Cockpit be sourced from 4K77 or the UHD? I only ask because I believe they are the only re composited shots that weren’t replaced with the originals in previous version of Despecialized, for whatever reason. I’m only nitpicking that because previously he’d go to the effort of replacing stuff like the remote or entire shots of Darth Vader on the bridge because they were recomped, but nothing was done about the Falcon cockpit shots which as far I’m concerned have the same ‘problem’.

Were the Falcon cockpit shots actually recomposited? It isn’t mentioned on 005’s change list, so it might just be your imagination.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

Here’s C-3PO and R2-D2’s arrival on Tatooine:

Great work so far! But I can’t help but feel like this particular scene lacks a bit of color separation now. I think some of the blue needs to be brought back into the sky and in R2 just a little bit, to give it the color contrast that it needs. Not to the crazy extent of the 2011 Blu-ray, of course, but just a little bit. (Right now, it’s is feeling kind of like a faded, brownish film print rather than a color-accurate film print). 🙂
