Nah, let’s not open a can of worms. I like the four ghosts we see thanks to John.

Understandable to not want to go overboard, I would petition to at least add Qui-Gon Jin for the following reasons:

-Every main character jedi’s force ghost from the entire main saga is now shown excluding only Qui-Gon.

-Qui-Gon was the one who discovered the way to appear as a force ghost in the first place, yet we have never seen him as one.

-It would tie in a little more significant material from the prequels and help mesh the entire saga together a little more.

While it would be lovely to see Qui-Gon again, in universe you never see him as a ghost (other than on Mortis in TCW) because he never fully completed his training with the Whills on manifesting, which explains why he is always just a voice… will Disney change this in the future with the Kenobi show, possibly?.. also this is a fan edit so I know that it’s not particularly beholden to current Canon. Just thought I’d put my two cents in.

I personally would not add any more ghosts …
two on each side is perfect! 😃

I think at the very least we should try to have each character whose voice we hear make at least a brief appearance as a force ghost in that scene.

As shown before, Yoda, Anakin (Who should possibly be shown as sebastian shaw if possible for continuity), Luke, Obi-wan have been integrated into the scene well. I would like to additionally see at least Mace Windu and Qui-Gon Jin (Especially Qui-Gon as he was the very first jedi we see chronologically, bringing the story full circle in a way). Ayla Secura wouldn’t be too hard to add from footage. Luminara Unduli has like one shot in AOTC. Adi Gallia, Kanan Jarrus, and Ahsoka Tano and don’t have any footage that I am aware of so including them might prove challenging aside from using cosplayers or something.

There may be an answer to some of this. Massive 2021 Star Wars spoilers, seriously do not look if you care about spoilers and news for the future of SW media.

While we’re discussing the Force Ghosts scene, I want to ask since this soundtrack addition absolutely makes me feel like a hyped little kid; Hal, what do you think of the following from the redux ideas thread?

The music feels very “epic trailer” to me, and feels out of place within the movie itself. It gave me chills too! But it felt like a trailer video.

Plan A to try at some point is what was originally scored for Rey catching the saber in TFA.

My plans were to add everyone you heard the voice of but I feel you delivered an excellent scene and it works perfectly as it is.

This was kinda cool the first time I saw it, but it’s really busy. I love the subtlety to jonh’s ghosts more and that they stay there to fight rather than just possess Rey.

Although I like music, I must say that I agree with you … it seems more trailer music

Re-scoring the entire film seems like so much work… even though it’s needed. I know for my cut, that’ll be what I do last.

I liked the idea behind that. The first scene was pretty much what I was going for but the eye thing was a little Marvel for me.

I am someone who isn’t a big fan of the Tatooine scene at the end. Between not having Ben present, to Leia’s only visit to the place was when she was a sex slave to Jabba after failing to rescue Han, to Luke leaving the place with intent to never return, etc.

With Rey choosing the name Skywalker, and that being the moment referenced in the title, I wondered how I might adjust that part. I decided to make it a more active choice as she faced Palpatine, as she rose to face him after the ghosts gave her a pep talk. Here’s my most recent version:

That’s cool but I’m not pursuing that sort of thing for this project.

We’ve got a finite number of changes to bring about, remaining open to new ones. But once all loops are closed (changes implemented without any committed ones remaining), we close in on at least a V1 release.

Does the entire film need to be re-scored? Some parts are a bit lame, but this movie adds a lot of great music that I would hate to see replaced.

I think Anthem of Evil was used too sparingly in the film. I only really noticed it after a few watches, definitely needs to be emphasised throughout.

Yeah, that’s one of the examples of “great music” I was talking about. I think re-scoring the entire movie using old music is the wrong approach. Instead we should emphasize the music that’s already there, and bring the score more in line with Williams’s intentions.

Yeah I watched Sideways video a couple weeks ago and he explains how TROS really kind of missed the mark on the usually very well-thought out placement of Star Wars.

I think the most egregious examples of this are:

  • Yoda’s theme being used when Luke lifted the X-Wing
  • Luke and Leia’s theme used for Lando and Jannah (very weird)
  • Under-representation of Prequel music (my opinion not from Sideways’ video)
    Possibilities for Prequel music are:
-Battle of Heroes for Rey V. Ren on the DSII until the the TROS music starts
  • The choir from Duel of the Fates for Rey meeting with Palpatine for the Sith Eternal
  • And from my own testing Across the Stars in some capacity works very well with Ben reviving Rey
(But I would recommend that that there be some remixing, maybe slower or deeper or mixed in with the TROS music that goes on during this scene… really anything done will probably be good)

I mentioned it already in the general thread, but besides obvious suggestions like Duel of the Fates or Across the stars, I have a less-known prequel theme in mind, one that is prominent in the second half of ROTS. It’s a Sith motif named “Mystery of the Sith” also known as the second half of Padmé’s Ruminations. It has early hints to the “Anthem of Evil” theme if you listen it closely.

TROS really should serve as a culmination of the saga in all its aspects, including the score.

Yoda’s theme during the X-wing’s resurrection makes sense. It harkens back to Luke who didn’t think he could do it, which was where his head was at for most of the ST, and hits home how he’s grown and changed throughout this story.

The music that played as Luke revealed to Leia that they were family plays as Lando reaches out to serve as a father figure to Jannah, and he may very well be. This is a bit of shorthand, and is the only thing that tells the savvy viewer that he’s not just picking her up.

I like the music as Ben dies. It touches on the big theme of the movie on the soundtrack that strikes me as a combination of Kylo’s and Rey’s themes, which is nice. I don’t really want to shoehorn in a love theme between other characters into that moment.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I can’t seem to find the post of a video someone did of moving Rey’s line “nothings impossible” to after Leia hands her the saber.

Anyone have that?

Life is just kicking my ass. I think next time I can sit down (or kneel 🙄) to edit, I’ll work on the civilian fleet arrival since that should be fun.

I mean that video kinda missed the mark in a few ways itself.

I think the most egregious examples of this are:

  • Yoda’s theme being used when Luke lifted the X-Wing

That makes perfect sense though, considering the scene it’s mirroring.

  • Luke and Leia’s theme used for Lando and Jannah (very weird)

The whole scene is weird.

  • Under-representation of Prequel music (my opinion not from Sideways’ video)

I’m not sure if that’s an issue exactly. It’s something that can be changed, but it doesn’t feel like a necessity.
