I did actually bump the scale up a little bit. The model was about 1100 pixels high when it should have been about 1300. I didn’t scale it all the way up, though, because it didn’t pass the eye test for me, and like Nev said, it could just have landed a little farther away. (I can bump it back down if this doesn’t feel right, though).

The next trick I think is the lighting for the shuttle. I think the shuttle’s lightest light is a little too white or “bright.”

You have a good eye, jarbear! However, I wasn’t trying to match the lighting of the X-wing, I tried to match the lighting of the original Tie Fighter. Both the Tie and the shuttle have very sharp vertical wings which reflected super white in the original shot. I think it’s also because of the angle, where the X-wing is completely backlit from the lightning, creating a different effect.

Oh yeah, I gotcha, that makes sense with the approach then. The increase in size is noticeable, in a good way.

This shot is looking really good. I am living it a lot!

See above comment. TIEs if that era are explicitly stated in ANH not to have hyperdrives, whereas a shuttle is seen using hyperdrive in ROTJ.

Oh, okay then. My mistake. 😄

I’m not that knowledgeable on certain technologies of that capacity when it comes to Star Wars. It’s always the Force that comes to my mind when I think of the technical aspects of the Star Wars universe, as I’m invested in the Jedi and Sith.

That shuttle shot is very well done and was something I thought needed tweaking when watching first time as Ties don’t actually land ever in starwars. Whole thread about Ties landing with some convincing theories why they don’t…

Also I’m all for naming Mustafar in the crawl helps ground where we are and its something that should of been in from the start.

Just a thought, based on DX-330’s & Hal’s ideas:

Hope lives. After the heroic sacrifice
of Luke Skywalker, countless systems
have taken a stand against the FIRST ORDER.

Trying to unite the disparate worlds in
the name of the RESISTANCE, General Leia Organa
dispatches her brave agents across the galaxy.
While Rey, sole heir to the Jedi, trains
for the brewing battle.

To suffocate this growing uprising,
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren seeks to find
the hidden power of his former master
on MUSTAFAR, haunted by visions
in the force…

Are we still determined to keep the “silenced all communication” thing from Trevorrow’s script? I feel like it doesn’t have much relevance here, and it’s contradicted by Lando’s message reaching the entire galaxy.

I think the novel uses this to explain why there are so few members of the Resistance and how the First Order gained so much territory in the year since TLJ. And it gives a little bit of weight to Poe’s comment to Zori about no one listening, it wasn’t because they weren’t listening it’s because the First Order stopped them from listening.

It does; it actually says that there ARE other major Resistance groups, but the First Order’s near-total control over communication makes connecting with them and coordinating between them nearly impossible. Given that we know Hux has a cut line complaining about how ‘flames of rebellion burn across the galaxy’ as Kylo Ren chases ‘a ghost’, I suspect at some point the line about the other groups and the communication silencing was also explicitly stated within the movie.

The problem, as always, is that JJ Abrams has a fatal aversion to exposition, even when it’s desperately, desperately needed.

The shuttle looks awesome. The slight size increase is not jarring at all.

I believe the only time we see a regular TIE land on screen (in live action at least) is Moff Gideon’s fighter in The Mandalorian. But I’m pretty sure that one is a different model, since it folded its wings in order to land.

Streamlined TIE models obviouslly don’t have those landing restrictions, as seen when Kylo parks his Whisper on Exegol.

It is a different model; regular TIES just land with their wings square like they normally are. Gideon’s TIE is labelled an ‘Outland TIE’ in supporting stuff.

There’s one other model of TIE with folding wings, the TIE Advanced V1, the model used Imperial Inquisitors (this model also has a hyperdrive). It’s got curved wings, though, not flat ones.

Man, I’ve been really on the fence about the novel but it sounds like it might be a good read.

It’s pretty solid. It’s not perfect, but at the very least it gives A LOT more context to a lot of stuff in the movie.

There are parts that work better than others, and you can kind of sometimes tell when dialogue is based on cut scenes from the movie, and when dialogue was written by the novelization author, and I don’t mean that a flattering way to the novelization author, haha.

Yeah I have polarized thoughts about the novelization. It feels like Lucasfilm cannot make up its mind even after the saga is wrapped up. The same way TROS felt like a retcon of TLJ prompted by backlash, the TROS novelization retcons controversial stuff established in the very same movie it adapted. Like Rey’s dad not being Palpatine’s biological offspring but a rogue clone of him. Or Ben and Rey’s kiss not being romantic.

On the other hand, the novel confirms stuff that we really should implement or make clearer in any fan-edit of this film, like the fact Palpatine transferred his essence to a clone, but that body is not viable enough to fully support his power (basically, “more than a clone, less than a man”).

Agreed. I don’t think it’s worth trying to explain how Palpatine survived in a fan edit, but I think even a quick line addressing whether he’s a clone or not would be worth throwing in.

Sorry if this has been brought up already, but there’s video of Ian McDiarmid saying the specific line you referenced (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=orSF0EvYRD4&t=1099s at 18:19). I’m not an expert, but I think the audio quality there is decent enough to be placed somewhere in this (or any) edit.

I know the clip has been brought up before, and I want to say someone made a pretty good clip where they cleaned the audio up… or at least I think they did… it’s a great line tho

It’s not even half baked but here’s where I’m at:

Flames of rebellion burn across the galaxy. The tyrannical First Order has moved to suffocate a growing uprising through __________.

As Rey continues her Jedi training under General Leia Organa, their brave agents attempt to unite the disparate worlds in the name of RESISTANCE.

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has traveled to Mustafar, chasing whispers of a hidden power that would allow him to destroy any threat to his rule…

First off, I like how the crawl is coming Hal.

So I had an idea, and I’ve only been toying around with it for a minute but here is what I got so far:

  1. Pan from the crawl to the Mustafar Star destroyer
  2. (Maybe an establishing shot of the TFA star destroyer with Three tie fighters flying towards it)
  3. Move the Hux and Pryde Scene after Jakku (I’m assuming you all are going to cut this scene so that we find out Chewie is alive with Rey) to here. This scene mentions that there has been causalities under the Knights of Ren and that a troop transport had been destroyed, and Pryde comments that he has seen the report… which kind of establishes conflict between him and Hux. (Basically repurposing this conversation for the battle on Mustafar).
  4. Establishing shot of Mustafar (Poppa’s tie fighter shot)
  5. Kylo on Mustafar.

I imagine that feeling strange and disjointed. 😕

Unrelated: can I ask for a single volunteer to send me a recording to be able to add an extremely subtle nod to ROTJ? The line read is, “Die, dickheads!”

Google it if you don’t know what I mean.

After much testing, while I enjoy the idea and while J cuts help… there just isn’t enough usable dialogue to suffice

Lol I understood that reference.

With regards to Mustafar, I guess the the simpler the better. There’s just not enough existing dialogue, even re-purposed lines, to provide context for that scene to fully work as an opening. The best course of action right now would be, as most people suggested pages earlier, to have a continuous tracking of the TIE Fighters lead us to the battle. First the TIEs and Destroyer in space, then the flyby over the woods (it would be great if some VFX addition could allow for the TIEs to fly past Vader’s Castle, just to make the planet identifiable as Mustafar before moving on to the woodland) and then Kylo’s slaughter of the cultists (and Palpatine’s “find me”).

Yeah lol, I was just watching a video on youtube and that scene came on and I thought maybe… but nope, it definitely doesn’t work.

I think Mustafar should stay, opening would be very claustrophobic without it. Poppasketti did a nice edit with the Ties over forest, could be possible to extend it a little more.

A note for the crawl, if Mustafar is to be included: saying Kylo Ren is journeying to Mustafar sets up a false expectation of what we are about to see. It kinda makes it seem like Mustafar is a real destination, rather than just a short stop on the mission. This is actually something the original crawl does well. “Rages in search…” pairs well with the montage battle, where we kinda get that we’re just like dropping in the middle of it, rather than expecting a full on scene of some sort. If that makes sense.

Poppa, your shuttle shot is AMAZING! (as always)

I’ve got no observations on how to ‘improve it’ from a look/integration perspective.

My only suggestion is a non-critical ‘in-story’ mod/detail.

How challenging would it be to add rust/damage’missing panel skin?

Nothing drastic that would give the appearance of it not being flight worthy, but just some detailing to indicate it’s suffered a few knocks from the DS explosion and planetary crash and then 30years worth of abandonment in less than ideal conditions.

As above, it’s completely non-essential, it’s just detail that may not be worth the effort…but that’s the only thing I can think to suggest to further sell the idea?
