Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 41

I doubt any of the callbacks were intentional. JJ Abrams didn’t even know who Plagueis was, and he was mentioned in the movies, and you expect me to believe he knows who Darth Caedus was? These are unintentional callbacks, so of which come from simply being obvious directions to take the story in.

That’s another issue. Abrams wasn’t actually familiar with the larger lore.

That makes me even more curious about intentionally drawing on them.

The First Order = Thrawn’s Imperial Remnant
The Sith Fleet = The Katana Fleet
Palpatine’s return via cloning = Dark Empire
Kylo Ren = Darth Caedus (his killing of Mara Jade would’ve been a much better reason for Luke’s self-exile, imo. Wonder if it still could be.)
Rey = Jaina, the “Sword of the Jedi” who defeats the fallen Solo…

The fact that all the references were unintentional is so mind boggling to me.

Revenge of the Sith: Refocused Available

The Clone Wars Refocused: The Chosen One (Mortis Episode)

Pretty much the only time JJ has gone on record about the prequels is to say he likes the Darth Plagueis scene.

“The supreme leader is wise” Snoke was definitely going to be Plagiues.

I still think Snoke is Plagueis.

Palpatine cloned his former master, who only ever operated in the shadows anyway as did all the Sith the past thousand years, in order to use HIM as a puppet and get some payback.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Twisted ironic revenge…

Is there any way to make that less implicit and more explicit, without it feeling shoehorned?

The audiobook had more Snoke exposition; here is an edit that incorporates it:

TLJ made a serious error in killing him with ZERO explanation.

I had hopes that Solo would reveal young Snoke as the crimelord, which would’ve at least explained his rise to power after ROTJ…but they went with Maul instead.

Oh now he knows about it, as evidenced by the RoS BtS, but back when TFA was coming out, people asked him if Snoke was Plagueis and his answer was basically “Who?”

And Sparky’s comment goes to show how meaningless calling Snoke wise was. It could mean anything. It’s a common word.

Wasn’t it Kasdan that reacted that way, with JJ jumping in to clarify he was “just messing with you”?

Yes.

I was thinking of a radical change to all 3 movies.

Maybe there is a way to use Chewbacca’s death actually real as part of the larger narrative.

If Rey actually felt consequences and had to fight that demon in her mind…that’d make for a stronger character arc.

This would require something like her exiling to Luke’s Island being the actual end of a movie. In ROS, she went there and then left in like an hour. But if she actually did that at the end of Movie 2…that’d make her return in movie 3 that much more meaningful.

This would require heavy restructuring but I think it’s possible. Luke would have to be reworked as well–perhaps he is already a force ghost in TFA.

There’s some pretty good odds he’s dead by then. Remember the series is still ongoing.

That’s only about 20-25 or so years after current Mandolorian timeline. He could still be alive and active.

My point is they might kill him off.

I’d say that’d be incredibly risky for Disney to do right now since the SW property isn’t doing so hot.

Not saying it’d be BAD, Game of Thrones showed you can have major characters die and continue the series if written well.

But I can’t see Disney allowing Favreau to do it anytime soon. Maybe in like 2025 when the series gets stale after season 5 and there’s Wakiki’s new Star Wars movie coming out.

This will sound dumb, but what if Starkiller Base isn’t a planet-killer, but an ancient Sith bioweapon to resurrect the dead?

The First Order’s plan in TFA is to bring Palpatine back to life. This explains how he comes back in TROS and avoids “yet another death star”. Although it sounds dumb in concept considering what we have to work with I think it’d tie things very smoothly.

Alternatively, the FO could be destroying the Republic as a mass-sacrifice to enable Palpatine’s return. I remember something like this in SWTOR.

Well I did write a flashback explanation for his survival and resurrection that involved sacrifices…
