Has anyone thought about changing the Rey Skywalker line for the one in the behind the scenes documentary? I feel it sounds better, Daisy delivered the line in a much more solemn way, even shed a tear.

Got a link? Or was this on the blu-ray?

Here’s an update to the final shot:

I made the falcon bigger, engines stronger, adjusted light speed jump direction, and smoothed the path a bit. There’s also a few other small enhancements, such as light wrapping as the falcon crosses the sun at snooker’s suggestion, and applying the general camera shake of the shot to the ship so it’s better integrated!

I also will be posting a version of snooker’s soon. He rendered out the falcon as a separate element for me to comp in, so we will have options!

Huge improvement! I think the turn that the falcon makes before it rises needs a little tune up, otherwise excellent job.

Looks great. I think it’d be nice to have the hyperspace streak be a little more prominent. I also wonder if the Falcon should be a bit fatter? But maybe not.

Yeah, for some reason there’s a bit less power in the jump to hyperspace than I was expecting. I don’t know how to describe it other than that.

I completely agree NeverarGreat, the shot is basically perfect I just reckon that the hyperspace jump should be a little faster…

Ok, here’s two options from me and snooker! I think both options work, and no hard feelings either way, since they really were a collaboration!

Falcon Shot - Option A
Falcon Shot - Option B
pw: fanedit

I made a couple of adjustments to Option A based on the last bit a notes, and made the hyperspace jump a bit more visually prominent. One of the reasons I had it down was to try to realistically show the haziness across a desert at dusk with the heat distortion and sand kicking up everywhere. This is why the Falcon starts to get distorted as it gets further into the distance and moves in front of the sun.

For the turn, I had a little pulse of the engines (both visually and in the audio) as if to show Rey accelerating. This was to try to make the shot more dynamic, but I could tone it down. And regarding the “fatness”, for Option A I added a bit of lens distortion towards the beginning of the clip to try to make it look more photographed and to try to match the Falcon’s appearance at the beginning of the scene when Rey approaches Tatooine. We could easily adjust though if it’s too much!

I the haziness is good but I think for the streak it’s more about the artistic flourish than the realistic look. I think it’s definitely better now.

On a quick watch, I think Option A is overall more seamless but the B Falcon seems to have a bit of a better shape to it, and a smoother path. But the lighting on the Falcon and the engine glow looks better in A, and I like how it gets further away from the screen faster.

Regarding the fatness (or lack thereof) in A, the distortion is good, visually it fits very well. I just think the Falcon itself seems a little thin, but maybe not. I suppose the Falcon’s shape changes throughout the films and I don’t know exactly what’s accurate.

Option A movement is smoother and the engine light is correct in color for TROS, and I like where the jump starts better.

Option B model looks more solid, might be just a bit too thick though. Engine light should be blue.

Overall, option A.

My opinion is that they both look damn good, but to compare them I’d say that A looks like it would fit with these sequel films well, while B looks more like it could fit into the OT SE films. Definitely not saying B looks bad at all (as I personally think the CG effects in the SEs are crap), but aesthetically I think A is a better fit here.

I actually really like Version B because of the model look, and all it needs to match the aesthetic of these movies is some atmospheric distortion and an engine glow which is larger and more blue.

But either one is really good, though there’s something about Snooker’s original concept shot that I really like:

https://streamable.com/2c6vox

It’s that little slowdown of the Falcon as it reorients itself to go to Hyperspace, along with the punchy Hyperspace sound placed just so in the space between musical notes and the speed of its acceleration. It just feels right to me, though I do like your take on the path.

I wonder if it would be cool to see the Falcon flying directly toward the yellow sun as if it were going to fly into it, but then turn at the last moment and jump into Hyperspace.

All of this!

I’m torn as to which of the two I like more, but I’m gonna have to lean towards A for the reasons others have mentioned - while I love the ESB-esque model of B (complete with ESB’s weird yellow engine glow), option A fits aesthetically with the ST much better.

I feel like Option A works best, looks the most realistic fits with live action and blends better likely because of the way It’s been positioned, B doesn’t look live action for me.

Here’s a weird idea: change 3PO’s line about the OLD Republic banning speaking Sith to the NEW Republic. (Maybe have to remove “I believe” since it’d be recent.)

Idea is that it’d make the hindrance due to recent hubris or myopia, and remove a slight implication that Palpatine being a Sith would have been in and of itself unacceptable in the days leading up to the Empire. (Like the novelization of ROTS maintaining that belonging to the religion Sith isn’t a crime.)

My stance on revising fan edits.

Hi Poppa!!

You do it again…and again…and AGAIN!!

So, overall and as it stands Option A

But here’s a curve ball…I’d be interested to see option C which had the look and detail of A but with the motion/flight path of B?

If they are the same, B still looks distinctly different somehow as it cruises and adjusts it’s trajectory in the lead up to the jump

I can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s almost as if ‘less is more’?

Overall, my vote is A … seems to fit better to me! Amazing work again Poppa!

Been a long time since I did anything with video/audio (not that I was ever good, ha), so this is probably more useful as concept than contribution, but here’s a dub of the final line using the Behind the Scenes take. Password is fanedit.
