This edit helps cement the idea that these people are a family now, instead of Rey being completely alone on a desert planet at the end. Her friends are there waiting for her : )

It also helps explain why BB-8 is there, he’s just a curious little friend : )

This and the Falcon leaving at the end are must haves for every edit!

I know many people have written crawls that describe Kylo Ren on a quest to discover the origin of his former master’s power, and I was trying to think of a way that could tie Snoke, Palpatine, Vader and Mustafar together.

Right now, I’m playing around with this idea of starting the movie with Kylo touching Vader’s helmet to sort of lead him the right way to the wayfinder on the planet surface. So he touches the helmet, then he would hear the voices of either Snoke and/or Vader, and get quick flashes of Vader’s castle, the Sith wayfinder, and the Exegol temple/the fleet. The idea being that this is Palpatine speaking through Vader’s helmet, trying to lead him the way to Exegol. I also would fit the “Find me” line somewhere in here. I’m still not exactly sure what to fit in the vision but maybe others would have some ideas about this. But I think it should set up Kylo’s “want” in the film, whatever that is.

But, I thought it would be interesting to have a shot of Snoke on Mustafar, standing in front of the Sith Wayfinder (either to use it to find Exegol, or to place it there as part of Palpatine’s plans). But I was thinking it could be a quick shot of something like this.

Snoke on Mustafar looks super creepy! It’s a very good illustration of the idea and would fit nicely in a version that delays Mustafar and the Palpatine reveal.

I’m very happy with all the feedback ❤❤❤

I’ll definitely tweak it a bit and maybe try to include Rose yelling “Finn” or something as everyone starts talking over eachother. Some R2 cheeps and a 3P0 “Goodness!” too, maybe : )

EDIT: Also wanted to mention that I REALLY appreciate the title of that video clip.

These fellas are kinda close ngl 😳😳😳

EDIT: Also, I love where your head is at with the Snoke idea! Lovely stuff!

I’m gonna join everyone else in saying that this is an amazing idea! This and the new shot of the Falcon leaving really help emphasize that Rey isn’t staying on Tatooine, making the ending much more satisfying.

Combine this with DomCobb’s rescore idea and the ending would basically be perfect in my opinion.

I think the establishing shot of Tatooine needs to be included somewhere, either before the chess seen or after.

I imagine the Falcon interior could be placed after the establishing shot with the Jawas. Or before that, but yes I agree that should remain. We don’t need arrivals on planets to be any more abrupt.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Probably inconsequential but might aswell, here’s a petition I saw on reddit for the release of all deleted scenes:

I think the Dejarick chess scene works better before the establishing shot. Serves better as a buffer and it would be fitting that the first thing we see after the trio hugging is a “family moment” of the characters just being themselves and bantering.

Snooker, that’s a great idea and implementation!

I agree that the establishing Tatooine establishing shot should remain, either before or after the chess scene: first I thought before seemed most logical but I think Knight of Kalee might be right! It would be a nice buffer between the scenes to fade into the chess, and then cut to the Tatooine wide to show where they’re going.

I also agree that the establishing shot should come after the chess scene. That way, you could include the entire scene, with the alarm sound indicating that they’re about to arrive at Tatooine.

My Perfect ending would be the snookers one connected with Dominics one with the Falcon Flying off💪🏽

A potential direction would be to lean on the idea that Rey is a feral Force user who can’t distinguish what her power actually comes from. In that case when she confronts Sheev it is the first time her power is being put to the test, so it isn’t if she can defeat him but whether she can do it using only the light side that counts.

This was where I thought her character was going. After her snarl in TFA, “you went straight to the dark” in TLJ, and especially after her lightning in this movie, I felt it was clear she was using the dark side most of the time, even though she was using it to do good. After all, it is quicker, easier, and more seductive, and Rey always tended to be motivated by strong emotions. I was really hoping for an “I am a Jedi, like my father before me” moment where she finds a light side way to defeat Palpatine. Instead we got a hilarious inversion of Luke throwing his saber away and refusing to fight: she force pulls a SECOND saber into her other hand, allowing her to more effectively EXPLODE Palpatine’s FACE.

I mean, is that what happened?

All Rey did was block/defend herself in that scene. Palpatine was killed by his own hubris, not Rey.

She deflected the lightning back at him, while walking at him. She could have deflected the lightning in any direction. To say that Palpatine killed himself is in my opinion as if to say that someone who threw a grenade at you and died of the explosion of said grenade, because you threw it back, committed suicide.
I’ll admit the comparison is a tad bit more extreme, but that’s roughly how I feel about Palpatine’s death.

All 3 trilogies end with Palpatine electrocuting himself. It’s like poetry…

I think we should test both ways, I lean more towards having the chess scene after the Tatooine establishing shot, If not just for the background chatter heard when Rey get’s off the falcon.

You’re right, that IS an extreme (and ridiculous) comparison, especially since we have no evidence that you CAN deflect Force Lightning in any direction but towards the caster with a lightsaber (iirc, at least), since it’s reflected back at the caster every time it happens.

Anyway, meant to respond to this part in the original post…

I was really hoping for an “I am a Jedi, like my father before me” moment where she finds a light side way to defeat Palpatine.

Do you mean, like, ‘All you want is for me to hate, but I won’t. Not even you?’

Great idea! Wonderful execution! If I may… I think it would be great if there is a way you could add a clip with R2 and 3PO. Below is a scene from AOTC where 3PO tells R2, “for a mechanic you do a excessive amount of thinking.” There is enough dialog from 3PO to make him say, “For a Wookie you do a excessive amount of thinking.” Then you can do a cut to R2 and just having him doing a silly chirping noise like the link below. In that way they’re all together and all four of them are giving Chewie a hard time. Just like a bunch of siblings.

My thoughts are you see Chewie thinking then it cuts to 3PO and he says his line, then cut to R2 making a silly chirp noise basically agreeing with 3PO, then we cut to Poe and Fin. Thoughts?

Maybe establishing Chewie chess shot -> sandcrawler shot -> shot of poe and finn staring at Chewie?

I really don’t want to lose Rey walking down the ramp with everyone yelling in the background

Oh, yeah keep everything all the same just add 3PO and R2 to the scene. I figured they have seen it all they should probably be there at the end with their friends.

I like that idea snooker, but I’ll think you’ll need some interaction before cutting from Chewie to the sandcrawler. It might be weird to see a shot of Chewie at chess and then quickly cut to an exterior.

It’d be like establishing a scene twice.
