Since we’re re-scoring the film, what do you guys think of using tracks from games like KOTOR, STOR and Shadows of the Empire (an absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack).

I used this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F80bFdUqkg&list=LLsWtMZobefiq04JNuS2jFLQ&index=2&t=0s) in my Chosen one edit. Min 3:30.
When Anakin lands the Separatist cruiser in ROTS after rescuing Palpatine.

Episode IV - THE HEIR OF SKYWALKER. Episode VI - RETURN OF THE JEDI RENEWED. DYAD IN THE FORCE (3-into-1 sequels).

That’s a really good track.

what do you want to fix in ROTJ?

Well, what I’d like to see is a version of the Hayden ghost in ROTJ that looks more content and proud of Luke and less…creepy. Just more appropriate to the moment than the take George chose.

And I’d be curious to see what it would look like with the aging-up you’ve given him for TROS.

Indeed! I’ve wanted that for some time now. Maybe it’s because I grew up with the LEGO Star Wars games, IDK.

Ghost

It also gives us an alternative to “just bring back Shaw,” which I find kind of limiting.

After watching the film here are my (non-spoiler) thoughts/critiques:

-The overall story is very ambitious and has a lot of heart but the plot is just too convoluted.
-Pacing is really all over the place.
-A lot of unnecessary exposition.
-This film felt like it was meant to be a 3 hour movie, scenes are never allowed to breath, cut short and slapped together to fit in a short run-time, I can’t wait to see the deleted/extended scenes on blue ray because this film needs more fleshing out.

Overall I think somewhere inside TROS there is a solid film, now its our job to try salvage it.

Looks like we got a lot of work to do.

Yeah, and that hobbit, can someone cut him out, he didnt do jack to the movie

This looks freaking awesome jonh!!! Great work, and I agree that a less creepy look on a perhaps slightly aged Hayden would make a nice alternative in Shaw vs. Hayden discussion for ROTJ.

In TROS: Resurgence I cut out the Hobbit’s four worst scenes:

  1. the Hobbit talking about Holdo manuevers
  2. the Hobbit consoling Chewbacca for 2 seconds
  3. the Hobbit making a super fake happy face to Finn during the finale celebration
  4. the Hobbit hugging Klaud (I removed Klaud from every scene)

heil Palpatine!

I don’t see the problem with more extras? Klaud is wonderfully goofy and Merry blends right in (although yeah, he totally should’ve been Rose).

I’m starting a new band. It’s name is Die Klaud.

Just skimmed through the TROS visual dictionary and lo and behold it explicitly says that the Sith loyalists took Palpatines body to Exogol and through “Science and occult” they brought him back to life.
Lucasfilm can’t decide which is it, clone or alive?
What happened to “an interconnected and consistent Canon”.
Such a shame, they’ve just thrown in the towel I guess.

i recognize this post is from like, weeks upon weeks ago but also: the TROS visual dictionary does NOT say that; it mentions that they’ve been fucking around with cutting edged science and the occult, but at NO point does it ‘explicitly says that the Sith loyalists took Palpatines body to Exogol and through “Science and occult” they brought him back to life’

Your right it wasn’t explicit, but it sure was the implication. I think the team at lucasfilm were reluctant to commit to any one explanation, they probably decided to stick to the clone route with the novelisation after backlash from the fans who (rightfully) also got he implication that the Palpatine that was in the film was the same one from ROTJ.

They never mention recovering a body at all, and more than one page, IIRC, mentions cloning, so I’m not sure how that’d work. The book is extremely, weirdly careful to avoid spoiling the ‘Palpatine is leading the Sith Eternal’ twist (given that it’s at the beginning of the movie, lol), only ever mentioning that the Sith Eternal are doing wack shit with sorcery and technology and that they’re lead and/or snoke was created by an ‘unseen master’.

From watching the film and reading the visual guide, you get the impression that Palpatine was rebuilt and stiched together, hence the need for the huge robotic arm for his every move. The cloning was in relation to Snoke, Palpatine being a clone was only added later on in the novelisation. (although in the original script as per Ian himself, Palpatine explicitly said that he was a clone, but that was changed around to a vague reference to the darkside.)

See, for me, when I was watching the original movie, Hobbit’s ‘Dark Science, Cloning, Secrets only the Sith knew’ was when it clicked for me that there was cloning involved, but I also had read the Visual Dictionary before I’d ever seen the movie, lol.

Author
Time

Yeah it really was open to interpretation, My problem was that they played it too safe, kinda throwing hints of different explanations at the audience in the hopes that one would stick rather than sticking to their guns with one explanation and fleshing it out.

That reminds me - idir_hh, didn’t one of your edits have Palpatine saying “I’m weak, I don’t have long”?
Maybe we could use that to make Anakin’s turn to the light seem more important again.

Kylo could say “my grandfather killed you” and Palpatine could say something like “And soon his action will be complete” to communicate that Palpatine Palpatine IS dying as a result of Anakin saving Luke, it’s just that he didn’t die immediately like we had all thought.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

 (Edited)

Now that’s a good idea.

Edit: It would be difficult though to construct the lines for Kylo, all instances of him saying the word “grandfather” are with his mask on.

That brings me to the helmet.
What if Kylo had his helmet on for his scenes on Exogol? Since in the film he reconstructs it for no apparent reason, in this version having him reconstruct the helmet right before he leaves for Exogol would add some meaning behind it.

The fact that he’s stapled to GLaDOS implies he was more or less fatally wounded by Vader’s sacrifice, but I suppose informing the viewer that the machine has only slowed the process rather than completely halting it could be nice. Then again, that implies that Palpatine’s gonna die regardless if the heroes kill him or not. Sure, the threat of his fleet is more important to the Galaxy, but to the viewer, I think stopping Palpatine himself should feel like the most important thing. He is the main villain of the Saga, after all.

I just watched the whole video…I’m now super pissed Lucasfilm hired a “hack” writer like Chris Terrio for this movie who clearly doesn’t understand how write a character arc. God, why do such amateurs keep getting hired in Hollywood…so frustrating!

Author
Time

Haven’t finished it yet. Any thoughts to how his thoughts could be applied to a fan edit?

Author

It’s more of a writing-stage set of ideas than something that could be accomplished in an edit, I think. The whole issue with Rey being tempted by the Dark Side is that there’s no temptation, especially after using dark powers seemed to kill Chewie.

A potential direction would be to lean on the idea that Rey is a feral Force user who can’t distinguish what her power actually comes from. In that case when she confronts Sheev it is the first time her power is being put to the test, so it isn’t if she can defeat him but whether she can do it using only the light side that counts.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
