I don’t understand why everyone is so keen on cutting Rey Skywalker. It’s the natural conclusion to her arc imo and exactly what I’d hoped for after TFA released (minus being a Palpatine).

Or the rise of the Skywalker legend, spreading hope across the galaxy. Or the rebirth and rise of Ben Solo, the last Skywalker.

It’s a lot of audio to review, but the Star Wars Radio Dramas might be a good resource for some audio clips. Lots of music and sound effects, but there is relatively clean dialogue of Anthony Daniels and Mark Hamil in parts, delivering lines that weren’t in the movies. There may also be some End Credits transition music at the ends of some of the episodes that might be useful. There are unedited versions of the radio dramas on YouTube.

Anthony Daniels has a vast wealth of 3PO lines out there since he’s voiced him in essentially everything he’s ever been in. Job for life. So if anyone has any ideas for literally anything 3PO could say, you could probably do it. Cut half the movie by just having him exclaim “The Second Death Star!” when he reads the dagger on Pasaana.

I remember snagging “I believe they call themselves Ewoks” from the radio dramas, allowing the Ewoks to be named onscreen. The fact that he’s voiced him in pretty much every instance the character’s been voiced and the fact that his mouth doesn’t move makes 3PO a godsend for faneditors.

Depending on acting quality, if somebody was hoping to elaborate more on clone-related stuff with Palpatine, the Dark Empire radio dramas might be helpful there.

On that note, if somebody was hoping to dub over ‘Final Order’ with ‘Sith Eternal’, one of Palpatine’s voice lines in Battlefront 2 includes the word ‘eternal’.

Slight update to the end shot. I made the falcon darker, less thin, toned down the blue, and a couple of other small adjustments. Still have to things I want to tweak, though!

Nice! Definitely improved. Do you think you’ll eventually take a stab at Ben’s ghost or leave that up to someone else? I’d be interested to see someone try the sequence of shots I laid out. I’d do a rough mockup myself but unfortunately I don’t have the movie on-hand yet. It’s currently on backorder from Amazon 😕

Superb. Honestly, I think this look goods enough to put in a final edit. I still want to see a version of the movie where Ben Solo lives, but beyond that exception, I think this is my favorite version of the ending so far.

Basically, this ending is a reflection for both Rey, and the audience, on this journey and where the story began. By burying the lightsabers, Rey is shutting the book on this Saga, if you will. And her leaving Tatooine on the Falcon is a visible promise that adventures in this galaxy will continue, but those adventures are moving on from the Skywalker Saga. I also think it is a better way to end it for Rey, because it makes it abundantly clear that this was just a quick stop before she goes on her next adventure, and returns to her newfound family.

I think there needs to be a buffer shot in-between Rey walking out of fram and the falcon shot, maybe the scene could restructured so that Rey first sees the ghost of Ben alone, then when she walks out of Frame we see the ghosts of Luke and Leia watching her and then we cut to the falcon.

That ending sequence is just wonderful. The only thing kind of missing now would be a rescore.

I could do with either Just Rey or Rey Skywalker.

Completely agree. I’m finding it hard to think of a reason not to include it in a Ben dies edit.

It’s not quite perfect yet, but it’s close! Like, if this was as good as it got, I’d still use it. But beyond some more roto tweaks (particularly when it crosses in front of the sun) I wonder how it’d look if it started a bit bigger? And if it dusted up more sand.
