How exactly is jonh aging Anakin? FaceApp?

Side note: I didn’t need to use Kylo’s line to Rey “You were right” in my edit but I did attempt to construct it from his helmeted dialogue while I was at it just for shits and giggles. It was very difficult with no good (only overly robotic) results.

In summary, this edit features:
-Rey Nobody

-Rey killed her parents

-Kylo lives

-Complete restructure to move the Emperor reveal to later

-Ren is so tormented by visions of his father that he destroys Corellia, planet destruction moved to the beginning

-Finn is more serious and no longer flamboyantly sassy most of the time

-Jannah’s presence reduced so she is no longer a main character

-No Klaud

-Made the Rey-TIE Fighter showdown more like the trailer
-And quite a bit more

On a side note, not sure if you have seen this video yet, but this guy used a face-morphing technique to use the part where she says “I’m Rey” to replace “Rey Skywalker” by removing the line “Rey who?”

It’s not whether they have answers or not but whether these moments feel genuine. I was pointing them out because where these moments might feel natural in another film, here they feel like little more than a string of actions placed on film purely for the audience and not for Rey herself.

The audio is actually the hardest part. I might just need to turn the levels down, but finding good audio of Rey saying “just” that matches the tone of the scene is difficult. I scoured all three films! I’ll listen again fresh and tweak it.

Also, I just updated the link with the face morph from the YouTube shot Chase Adams sent. I’ll ask if that person would be willing to share that shot, but if not, I’ll keep going down that path myself and finish it.

Wow, you certainly are quick to respond! Not sure how you do this kind of stuff so fast! I’m glad you liked the clip I found, I think this new piece you made works a whole lot better! Also, did you improve the line “just Rey”? it already sounds better than the first clip. Or am I imagining things?

For my edit, I wanted really wanted to try and play around with the ideas below but was not able to. If anyone else has ideas how to implement anything like this let me know:

Have Finn sacrifice himself at the end (but the group hug is great and hard to cut).
Have Finn be the one who destroys the Star Destroyer bridge, and he uses the force to do it.
Leia force heals Ben through Rey.

I really like the edited ending with the ghosts of Ben and Anakin in it. I think Anakin belongs, because of his redemption at the end of ROTJ, and his presence in the Rey vs Palpatine fight edit which seems to be gaining a lot of traction.

If we want to have the sequels be part of our canon, which really we should, since we don’t have an alternative, then we have to be comfortable with the idea that Rey is not, by birth, a Skywalker, and that a lot of the OT’s conclusive ending is undone in order to justify the new Disney trilogy. And one way to become more comfortable with that is to refactor Anakin’s story and Luke’s story as including the concepts of support for future generations of force wielding protectors, as steps on a longer journey. That doesn’t belittle their achievements at all. Having the support of the prior generations as force ghosts at key moments helps reinforce that - and I think Anakin really belongs, thematically as a capper to the prequels and from a story perspective as one of the great successes of Luke’s.

Here’s a controversial take though - a lot of people have talked about how it’s a bit odd that Rey returns to Tattooine, which Luke hated, where Anakin’s mother was enslaved, where Leia was enslaved. It’s a capper to a 40-year journey for the audience to see that twin sunrise, but it doesn’t make sense for Rey, who has no emotional connection to it. What if, instead, we change Tattooine to Jedha, using some mattes and masking? We know from Rogue One that it was significant to the Jedi Order, and taken by the Empire. What better place to honour the past and begin a different future (away from ivory-tower Coruscant) than a proper holy site?

I would 100% rather have this DOTF scene be the final Skywalker Saga scene instead of the Tatooine shitfest we were given:

In case you don’t know, in DOTF, the final scene was Rey training a bunch of younglings (including broom boy) on a new planet.

We seem to be made to suffer, it’s our lot in life.

The behind the scenes drama at lucasfilm would make for an interesting film.
