I think his source is the JWfanpage but from what I understood the chants in the duel trailer were collected from the original soundtrack and then mixed with trailer music.

I doubt there is a soul on that site who’d think that trailer track was Williams. I don’t know where that info is coming from but there’s no way it’s true.

I tried watching that video and I just can’t. So much of what he’s saying is way off the mark.

No one on there said that. They’re smart enough to know what is from Williams and what isn’t, and that trailer music is clearly too “epic” to be from Williams. I don’t think the guy in that video knows what he’s talking about, he’s just whining about something he clearly has little experience in.

EDIT: And the rest of the video doesn’t make any sense either. He praises music that is clearly tracked as being from Williams, and the condemns music that is clearly from Williams as being tracked. His definition of themes is completely arbitrary, and only exists so he can make this great score seem like the worst thing ever.

For example, he condemns the movie for putting the Star Wars theme in places where it doesn’t refer to Luke, and for putting the Imperial March in places where it doesn’t refer to Anakin, as if those themes are supposed to be for Luke and Anakin instead of Star Wars and the Empire. There’s a reason they’re not called “Luke’s Theme” or “Anakin’s March”.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

Regardless, I think it would be nice to have the sanscrit chants from DOTF play in that scene, it could also be used during Rey and Kylo’s fight against the guards and knights of Ren.

Well I wouldn’t go that far (the main Star Wars theme was written to represent Luke specifically) but yeah, it’s far from unprecedented for Williams to use themes incidentally (to fit the emotion of the scene, rather than the specific subject matter). Luke’s theme and the rebel fanfare are each used a few times throughout the prequels to represent heroics in general, and Duel of the Fates didn’t have much of a connection in the Phantom Menace beyond “conflict.” Plus, a few of the themes written for TLJ were specifically tied to emotions, rather than characters.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

The main Star Wars theme has been a general theme for the franchise post OT. Williams’s decision, and it just makes sense.

Exactly. The same way the Force theme was originally conceived as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s theme.

Was it really supposed to be Obi-Wan’s theme at first? Damn! You learn something new everyday!

Yes I believe he calls it Ben’s theme in the liner notes for the original film. But he also referred to it as the Force theme even then and there are moments in the film where it obviously isn’t exclusive to Ben.

That looks really great jonh! Excellent job so far. I’m curious, how did you create the shots where they all raise their hands to help Rey?

On the topic of the score, although I don’t think Sideways does a great job at making his point (it feels more like a rant than any semblance of an analysis), I think the heart of the point he is trying to make, that the themes and motifs that are used throughout the film are often unmotivated or used poorly, is a really fair point that I think I do agree with. Sideways actually suggests an episode of the What the Force podcast that goes into this topic better than he does, probably. I do agree that looking into rescoring different scenes in the film would definitely be worth considering.

Here’s another random idea to throw onto the thread: When Kylo hears Leia’s voice and turns to look behind him, what if, for the briefest moment, he actually saw his mother? It already appears as if he is looking back at someone, so I wonder if we could create a single shot of Leia standing there on the wreckage with them.

We never really get a solid explanation for why Leia dies. It almost seems like just speaking to Ben killed her. With this idea in mind, maybe Leia learned how to project herself from the Sacred Texts, like Luke did. And the effort to do this, in order to stop Kylo from killing Rey, was enough to kill her. Plus, it was a shame that we never got a scene with mother and son together, so even though it would be for just a brief moment, I think it would be rather touching if the last thing Leia get to see before she dies is the face of her son.

I love this idea. To have Leia force project to the DSII to see her son and sacrific her self to do this gives her such an incredible send off instead her passing for no reason. With the talent here it would definitely be acheivable.

I think I’m going insane… The video attached to that link says it was uploaded a week ago, and there’s no shots of them lifting hands…

Jonh, that clip with the lifting hands is basically perfect!
I have no idea how you managed to get it to look so good!
My only nitpicks would be that in about two shots, Luke and Anakin’s hands look just a little too large.
Also, have you tried to get Anakin in his ROTJ robes yet? It could be interesting to experiment with. 🤔

okey!!!
I’ll fix the hands!😉

Regarding the robes, I find it strange to put it because in the prequels, anakin does not have that robes … I do not know, it seems strange to me, so rare with ROTJ
