I really love that. By far the best execution I’ve seen of this concept. My only criticism (besides the minor tracking thing HAL mentioned) is that Luke appears a bit small.

Do you intend to add Anakin? If you found some appropriate raw footage to use, I could attempt to age Hayden up for you (with FaceApp, EBSynth and After Effects) to match the others so he wouldn’t look quite so jarringly out of place. Vader was only 45 when he died, but I’d have to age Hayden Christensen up to look at least as old as ~65-year-old Mark Hamill (playing a 53 year old ghost!) since it would be weird to have the father appearing younger than the son.

Bonus fact: in ROTJ, a ~68 year old Alec Guiness is playing the ghost of a man who died at 57. Every ghost Jedi is cast older than the actual character - well, except for Frank Oz’s Yoda…

I think Anakin ought to be included, personally. Before the movie came out, I wondered whether Hayden could have been given a partial morph into Shaw, but that might work for such a slight glimmer of an appearance.

This is a neat take on that: https://imgur.com/gallery/5Dn7l
Although not in motion obviously.

I like the morphing idea between Hayden and Shaw, if only because we only really have two shots of Shaw from ROTJ that’d be appropriate. I’ve headcannon’ed that Anakin’s ghost can shape-shift depending on who he’s around (Shaw for Luke after seeing him without the mask, Hayden for his “base appearance,” and Vader-like if he wanted to frighten a guy), so it’d work for me.

Loving the progress on the force ghosts, and that Anakin morphing work is wild.

  • Some sound clip or soundalike of masked Kylo Ren saying, “You were right” to replace “I never lied to you” before going on to say, “Your parents were no one.”

I tried my hand at recording my own voice and processing it to sound like a helmeted Kylo-Ren to try and tackle this one. Let me know what you think:

EDIT: Link wasn’t working at first but is now!

Damn, I definitely think that is passable. The “right” sounds a bit off in comparison to the existing dialogue, hard to explain, but I think this is this first test is a pretty solid example that redubbing Kylo in order to change the narrative is possible.

Yeah I agree, I can tweak that “right” a little further!

Oooohhh, Poppa’s getting involved…

“I’ve got a really good feeling about this!”

It fits in really well, I think. Honestly, I bet if you showed this to someone not on this forum, I think it would be hard for them to notice what was changed.

Bringing back that helmet was a blessing in disguise. Don’t say JJ never did anything for us :’)

That’s some very nice work. However, I think the only way I would actually want to use it as if it is so subtle that it’s almost hard to notice on the first viewing.

That looks very good! Though I’m not too keen on reusing the shots of the ghosts from the Endor celebration.

Poppasketti, that audio sounded great! It’ll do as a minimum but it isn’t quite perfect. In other words, it’s already better enough to be worth using, even if that’s as far as it can go.

And Jonh, could you post a screencap of just Anakin’s face from that clip? It’ll be a while before I’m at a real computer and I can’t zoom in! But the clip’s good! When I say subliminal, though, I mean the kind of thing some fans would miss and have to go see again with eyes peeled in order to spot. Maybe Chase’s approach would be better, with a subtle effect implying rather than showing.

So exciting that poppasketti is getting into this film!
That audio sounds pretty good! It’s a great first start, things can only get better from here!
Quick suggestion, it sort of sounds like he’s pronouncing the words as “You were rate” instead of “You were right” Maybe I’m going deaf just like my dad, but that’s the way I’m hearing it. 😉

Super pumped to see what else you have waiting for us poppasketti!

The sound is pretty seamless, Can I ask what you recorded this on and what kinda software you used?

Yeah, I can’t unhear this either. It sounds just like Kylo, but saying “You were Reyght”.

Just updated the OP.

Here’s a revised stab at a crawl. I welcome ideas.

Episode IX
THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

A shadow has consumed the galaxy. To suffocate the spark of rebellion, the First Order has scattered and isolated those with the bravery to face the darkness.

As Rey, sole heir to the Jedi, continues her training under the ailing General Leia Organa, their fledging Resistance gathers intel to forge a path to freedom.

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren rages in search of his grandfather’s SITH WAYFINDER, determined to unlock the secrets of his former master’s power…

Glad we got something going, even if it needs more work!

idir_hh, I recorded with a Yeti Pro into Adobe Audition, pitched it down, and then added a couple distortion effects to it. In premiere, I also added a couple sounds from other helmeted Kylo dialogue to texturize it a little.

I think Kylo searching for his master’s power kinda makes Palpatine’s entrance coincidental, like Kylo just happens to stumble upon Palpatine and that coincidentally initiates the plot. I think it would be better to establish in the crawl that he has been hearing whispers from the beyond, summoning him. That way Palpatine is directly involved with drawing in Kylo.

That’d probably make more sense. My idea was to imply that tracking Snoke’s miscellaneous stuff would lead him to Palpatine, like following a marionette’s strings to its animator.
But that’s hard to get across, and doesn’t make immediate sense as Kylo rummages through Darth Vader’s sock drawer.
