Thanks for posting, I tried throwing it up on Reddit but it just got shit on so I deleted it ahah. Glad people here are enjoying it somewhat!

Mate, that was such a good clip, what I think all of us here can agree on is that you should probably go and take a look at Hayden’s robes at the end of the ROTJ Special Edition and use those. Then, voilà! A perfect edit! 😄

Here is another go at a more intense version of the glow.

Looks like you and I are going to be going a little nuts with our work on Luke and Leia’s sabers. 😉

Idkartist3d, welcome! That’s some nice work with the ghosts. What footage did you use for Ben?

I’d have to do some thinking before I’d be sure I would want to include Ben’s ghost in my project, but I’d love to have a version without Anakin. Ben is very germane you the movie whereas Anakin isn’t, and it’s too brief of a shot to include all four IMHO. Or, what about placing the Anakin layer at like 15% opacity to give the viewer just a subliminal reminder of the grand Skywalker patriarch?

Thanks! The footage I used for Ben is actually from another movie entirely, as I swear there isn’t a single scene in any Star Wars movie where he’s smiling ahah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPmk_aj_2Ao&t=3719s
I threw his head onto his body in the scene where he and Rey are in the destroyed Death Star~
And I’ve heard that quite a bit, honestly it’s a toss up at a certain point. Anakin at 15% may not turn out as well as you think it may, would be better to either include him or not tbh ;p

Many thanks!~ Yeah, retrospectively I should’ve used those from the start. Will have to do a bit of digging, hopefully I can find some good sources~

Perfect! 😄

As for the “pulsing” effect, if it’s possible to give Anakin’s saber a blue version of the same effect Kylo’s red saber has, I think that would work both logically (she had to use a cracked Crystal much like Kylo did) and thematically (she’s inching closer to falling to the dark side, much like Kylo did).

Only problem there is if Anakin’s lightsaber works like that with no crossguard, it begs the question of why Kylo added a crossguard when he turned his saber from blue to red if it wasn’t to contain the energy of a cracked crystal…

lol!

Uh some main ideas are to remove any notion that Reys worth/abilities come from men. “I will earn your brothers’ saber” “You have his power.”

Maybe have Rey use a new lightsaber throughout the whole movie? Or at least modify the Skywalker saber to be crackly like Ren’s.

Remove everything that runs against thematic ideas presented in the prior movies. (Rey Nobody)

Ben Solo lives.

Remove implications that Finn has a crush on Rey and instead imply that he has a crush on Poe.

Make Palpatine less boring? Maybe he doesn’t appear until Rey sees him?

Thinking about this movie is giving me a migraine

I was happy with Rey being no one, in the context of Finn also being that way. TFA makes it seem like Rey and Finn both get to learn abilities and use lightsabers fairly quickly, and like they’re going to be equal protagonists.
After that I have to agree with Gothamknight, the Palpatine thing was better than constantly asserting that she has no history and no reason to exist.

Not having an important family means no reason to exist?

I just really don’t like how this last movie decided to define Rey through her relationships to powerful men. It’s gross and weird.

And I really despise the whole ‘strong bloodline’ ubermensch idea that the movie kinda presents.

Didn’t get that implication at all. Angry fans on Twitter are constantly saying that this movie proves that JJ Abrams is a racist sexist homophobe, but I think many of them are reaching. The “You have his power” line does make me cringe, although more based on association to the whole Rey Palpatine mess.

Maybe have Rey use a new lightsaber throughout the whole movie? Or at least modify the Skywalker saber to be crackly like Ren’s.

The first option isn’t very likely, although I would want to see an edit where the blade is changed somewhat. Maybe the saber could be yellow the whole movie, implying that Rey had to get a new crystal? It could help set her apart from Luke and Anakin, reinforcing the novelty of a hero who isn’t special.

Remove everything that runs against thematic ideas presented in the prior movies. (Rey Nobody)

That’s kind of a given. Ever since the movie was released, Rey Nobody has been my top editing priority. I don’t think it would be hard to do, as long as you stick to a “less is more” approach.

Ben Solo lives.

That would also be interesting to see, although it’s not a top priority for me. And I know that if Ben lived, the other side of the fanbase would be complaining about a war criminal surviving without any sort of punishment. Grass is always greener on the other side of the field.

Remove implications that Finn has a crush on Rey and instead imply that he has a crush on Poe.

Not sure how a gay romance between Finn and Poe could be accomplished without rewriting the whole movie. If you just add a few passing references, it might seem shoehorned in for the sake of having a gay character. I do want to remove the “What were you going to say” subplot, although more because I don’t want to leave a dangling plot thread.

Make Palpatine less boring? Maybe he doesn’t appear until Rey sees him?

I didn’t think Palpatine was “boring” at all. He looked and sounded terrifying, and I love the mysterious feel of the Sith temple. However, I would want to postpone his reveal. Such a big twist in the 3rd act would probably seem too random, but I would like to delay the scene of Kylo meeting Palpatine. I was thinking something like the leaks:

-Rey trains with Leia, has visions
-Kylo goes to Mustafar, gets the Wayfinder
-Finn and Poe get secret info, escape the First Order
-Kylo goes to Exegol, meets Palpatine

It took talent to get something to look this good, technically. While everyone seems very excited about this, someone has to come in with an alternate opinion to push for something better. The bottom line is with the footage used, Kylo looks fat, extra goofy, and is making a weird, kind of unnatural face. While Anakin looks somewhat wooden, Kylo looks like a cartoon. I know you wanted Kylo smiling, but if this is the best result possible with smiling, then maybe consider not smiling an option. For me, Anakin is not necessary at all.

Don’t let the reddit trolls get you down.

Rey had zero idea who Anakin Skywalker was and seeing him in his young form is too out of left field for me, for him to appear I think he would need to show up before that moment for a Rey connection to work.

She says in TLJ that she knew about the redemption of Luke’s father… Also, Anakin literally speaks to her in TROS. There’s several other minor examples of her knowledge of Anakin but these are the main ones.

As… weird as Luke and Leia seem to me there, Ben seems to blend in.

Leia looks a bit weird/bad-- let’s admit that too. So if someone has the talent and capability to fix this whole scene without adding more to the weirdness, e.g., “fat cartoonish Kylo” and even replacing Leia, all the better. But just because Leia looks weird/bad and Luke looks mediocre, it doesn’t mean it’s ok for Kylo to look weird too. Unless that’s what you’re going for in a joke edit.

I don’t have a problem with Ben’s force ghost. It doesn’t look weird to me, and the shot is short enough that any minor errors don’t really bother me. I do want to see a version without Anakin’s ghost, or with Hayden replaced by Sebastian Shaw. Just as a test to see what it would look like.

She also previously knew about the legend of Luke Skywalker but if she never shared a scene with him I would be feeling the same thing of who is this old man she’s looking at, if Anakin could be seen more than just heard when he helps I would find the whole thing less jarring, I understand he’s part of the family but his presence doesn’t feel organic.

I’m interested in replacing the “Nobody” twist in TLJ with the Palpatine twist, so that I can make a cut of TROS where Rey knows from the beginning. Does anyone know if/how I could adjust the audio of Kylo’s “You are a Palpatine” line so that it doesn’t sound like he’s talking through the mask? Or, would it be better to use a line from the audiobook?

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

I think this is the wrong approach. I understand wanting to give the trilogy more of a cohesive story, but I think it’s better to just remove the Rey Palpatine twist completely. I liked it more the way it was before, when the twist was that there was no twist.
