Just realised that Ridley’s Falcon cockpit shots are missing the middle beam in the window. It seems that in all other films the beam is there.

Yes, I am very familiar with all of Ady’s changes. I was simply mentioning how in snooker’s edit of the scene given to Hal, the beam was there, but in Ridley’s edit of the scene that Hal ended up using, it was missing.

Nah, I prefer Victory Celebration instead.

I’d say this edit is a perfect place to try out using Victory Celebration without cutting away to the SE planet celebrations, since that ending is now redundant with TROS and you could then reuse some of them, like Coruscant, for TROS Ascendant.

I don’t mean to sound like I’m going off topic, but may I ask where you managed to get 1080p versions of the 4K Remasters of the trilogy from Disney+, Hal?

I felt justified in finding rips due to having a Disney+ subscription, and will rip the physical disc once I can get it. No timetable with what’s been going on; we’ll see.

Okay, just curious since you used it as a workprint for Return of the Jedi.

I was about to say that! I’ve been longing for a version without the planets sequence even before TRoS. I was playing around with it, though, and there’s a good 10 seconds of no-footage to fill, though, at least the way I did the audio. I couldn’t find a better way to do the music, though. Not sure how to fill it up, although reversing the footage around it and replaying to fill time kinda helps. Got it down to 4 seconds, but I can’t really get any further.

It might make it a little easier if we had isolated sound effects and foley, because then we could have more freedom. A lot of footage is cut down in the Victory Celebration ending that could be lengthened back up, but then the sound effects wouldn’t be synchronized.

Here’s something, no sound effects or foley, just music taken from the soundtrack. Not something I’d recommend using in a fanedit, but it’s something.

sigh Fine, I’ll make something and finish it for once. 😉

Oh, I was just talking about altering the end of ROTJ, not TROS. I think Victory Celebration is a better track to end on, especially if you intend to follow it up with the ST, but I’ve never liked the planet cutaway celebrations in ROTJ.

But something like what I want to do certainly would mesh with a TROS edit where someone used ROTJ:SE Bespin/Coruscant/Tatooine/Naboo celebration shots. But I don’t intend to do a TROS edit.

…yet.

Gotcha. Editing the music might be tricky. It’s been a long time since I tried, and so in my mind Planets and Victory Celebration are a package deal.
But I get it; the reason I won’t export two versions is that these are indebted to sit alongside the original versions anyway.

I gotta say, I’ve been watching the Disney+ versions of the trilogy, and I’m quite amazed by the video quality and remastered colors. I do wish they also did the same with the audio mix, rather than just reuse the 2011 mix. Somebody let us know exactly what the 4K home video releases are like.

I wonder if you could distort the Emperor’s hologram here and there to possibly make it fit better. Like the hologram could flicker and the voice could briefly be distorted, to try and make it fit.

They were moving out of an asteroid field so there still could be some interference.

Do you plan on correcting the major error from the 97SE that puts Yavin in the Death Star’s range from the start? I think despecializing the shot would be easier than manually removing the moon of Yavin.

As things are, my version uses the SE for the entire Battle of Yavin. I would find it distracting personally to switch back and forth.
I don’t plan to revise it in light of that error, but I’d think more about it if I were doing an update for other reasons.

If we could get the shockwave removed from Alderaan or the continuity error fixed during the SE Biggs scene, maybe, but on its own I don’t think it’d be worth the nontrivial amount of effort it’d take me.

I noticed that you listed your custom special editions as fanfixes on fanedit.org. Wouldn’t they be classified as special projects considering that they’re the same films with a slight different viewing experience?
