Given the way the scene plays out, I don’t intuit a great deal of value in adding several people checking in by name. I may, however, want to add a few miscellaneous exclamations of “Skywalker!” at some point to tie into that part of the story.

And I don’t think the battle over Coruscant theme fits over the scene better than what was there originally.

Yes! To make it like it was Luke’s sacrifice that inspired people, a nice way to tie in with TLJ. I also think the music it’s fine the way it is, it’s one of the most important themes of the saga, it makes sense in the final battle. It’s not just another battle theme.

Hey, if people from this forum wish to send me clips of their voice calling out, “Skywalker!” or “For Skywalker” or whatever else sounds good to that effect, I can see how many I can work in.

And there should, I feel, be at least one speaking gibberish. Like “Ooba dooba Skywalker!”

Oh hell yes, I will definitely send you something, Hal!

If everybody’s inspired to join the fight by Luke’s sacrifice specifically saying “For Skywalker” and all, that can also be another interpretation of the title. The Rise of Skywalker being the galaxy rising up to avenge Luke Skywalker. I love it! I’ll try to send some recordings today.

Agreed! This is actually what I assumed the title meant the day the teaser was released.

Personally Hal, you can almost get away with it without using the Ties. Heck, if Poppa could even just erase the ties and their sound you can end the scene BEFORE the close up of the falcon in lightspeed/just coming out of it. That would be my first choice.

Doesn’t that happen a lot in the movie already?

I’m 100% all for adding some “For Skywalker!” voices to the end battle! I wonder if we could Tweet some TCW/Rebels VAs to record just that line in-character. They’re all stuck quarantined inside already, they must be bored, right?

Yeah, but don’t you think in a case like that you’d have to pay them? Not saying they wouldn’t do it for free, but they’re professional voice actors, rather than ones who are on YouTube and do it for fun.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

They also might call Mickey Mouse and bring his sulfuric rage down upon us all.
By all means, though, reach out to any small-scale folks. I like the idea of that better, anyway.

There’s probably only a few seconds of time into which these will need to be compressed. If I get enough contributions it’ll be cacophonous, but you’d be able to tell they’re crying out about Skywalker. I’m thinking right after Poe directs them to attack the first destroyer after they show up.

I have an iMac with a built in microphone … not sure if that would provide good enough quality, but I would be more than happy to supply some lines like that.

It’s okay if the audio sucks; it’s supposed to sound like it is coming through a comm. Imagine what the X-wing chatter sounded like when heard from base in ANH.

Really sorry about changing the subject AGAIN but a while back I heard about an idea floating around on TROS edit ideas thread.
Someone, not sure if it was Hal or someone else, but they suggeted that in order to make it more obvious that Rey becomes the physical embodiment of every single Jedi we could see the Jedi’s spirits become part of her and she could glow or some shit like that.

I tried to experiment with this, by using the distarcting Exogol strobe lights to my advantage, I made Rey have a subtle glow effect for a couple frames after we see some spirit-like elements surround her and pass through her. It comes across as a little cheesy but it’s an iteresting experiment nonetheless.

I literally can’t tell the difference.

As for rescoring the fight, I swear Finn’s part in that scene is cringier every time. He deserves so much better. Cut him from that scene entirely. He should not be aboard the Death Star. What is he hoping to accomplish? Rey’s beaten Kylo before. She can handle herself.

I agree with the whole Finn thing, he yells not once, but twice and that really took away from the fight. I wonder if there would be a way to cut out the first “REEEEEEEYYYYY!” smoothly (the second is alot easier due to timing), but i also wonder if its at all possible to cut him from the scene entirely but cutting the part where hes told they have another water speeder?🤔

Well, here’s the original shot for the lightspeed skipping that should be extended. If anyone wants to take a stab at it, I’d be grateful.

And, I’ll update the OP once in a while, adding little check marks ✅ to changes I’ve completed. (This doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t revisit these things.)

The problem with Mustafar is that it’s not really a scene. It’s just ‘Kylo goes to a place and finds a thing he was already looking for’. For it to earn a place, something has to happen that changes a character or plot element, otherwise it could just open with Kylo arriving at Exegol.

Maybe the crawl tells how Kylo is trying to make good on his promise to end the Jedi and the Sith, and this has brought him to Mustafar to wipe out Sith cultists. When he finishes killing them, the ‘Find me’ can lead him to the wayfinder.

This would at least help give the scene some element of interest as Kylo may not have realized the wayfinder was here.

I mean someone could try to recreate this cut scene and not delete Mustafar at all (assuming the official footage of this scene is never released):

Also maybe have force ghost Luke taunting Kylo with voices or something?

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but the part of ROS that jarred the most was the Goonies dagger moment. It almost insinuates that the dagger was an ancient Sith relic, able to point to a wayfinder. When she held it out like the Goonies medal to the wreckage of a 30 year old wreckage in a raging ocean…I nearly face palmed in the cinema. It insinuates the wayfinder was put in the throne room after the wreckage, that the wreckage has not moved since…and the motive behind such an action is unfathomable.

My idea was to use the dagger held out and insinuate it points to the wayfinder by the force (it’s a sith relic after all). I wondered if there was a way to put a noise across the top (one ring style whisper maybe). Or Maybe sith cultists noise from the end of the movie (phase in and stop when it’s pointed to the wreckage?)
In this way, it means it is Palpatine’s wayfinder from the days of the empire, hidden in a vault in his throne room. Not returned by someone to an impossible-to-reach wreckage.

“It’s over anakin. I have the high ground.” After Darth Maul, Obi Wan should have known better.

I don’t have a problem with the Goonies dagger personally (who said it’s ancient? even if it is, it’s the Force and all), but cutting it out is really easy. You just cut it out. Once they find the Death Star it shouldn’t be hard for Rey to intuit the wayfinder’s location. Don’t need the dagger to point at anything.

I would have enjoyed it if not for the terrible prop design, looked like something straight out of Power Rangers.
