I guess this might not be useful for Ascendent, but rather than try to rescore the kiss scene, I wonder if it would feel more natural if you were to place parts of that track into one or two of the previous films? Like when they touch hands in TLJ, you could replace the Force theme, which I feel gets overused somewhat in the Sequel Trilogy, with a part from the Farewell track. You could retroactively establish it as their love motif.

EDIT:

I’ll be honest, I really really don’t care for Reylo, but it is undeniably really hot. We should lean into that. - JJ Abrams to Chris Terrio

That could work!

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

New to this forum but very interested to see what improvements can be made to The Rise of Skywalker. After some reflection I have grown to enjoy this movie but still think there were some major missed opportunities. One of them being the absence of force ghosts in the ‘I am all the Jedi’ scene. I came across this video today which I think is a subtle way of including them. I would love to see someone tweak this to make it even more authentic. The final flash of the spirits in particular I think is perfect.

As much as I was initially against the idea, I actually really like this implementation. Would be interesting to see something like this.

Whoah! How the hell did you pull together that audio?

The audio was like that in the original movie. Rey calls on the spirits of every Jedi to help defeat Palpatine. Whoever edited that just added subtle still images to match the voices.

That final flash is fantastic! I think it fits more in line with the “less is more” category, whereas all the flashes during the dialogue seems really distracting to me.

Did’t catch that final flash till after a few watches, I think if the other flashes where as subliminal it could be good to go.

One request for the moment. If I can send the clip, could someone extend the shot in which the Falcon jumps into hyperspace after smashing through the ice wall? Enough to allow for a halfway satisfying moment to feel like an ending and during which to wipe either to Rey training or whatever other scene ends up after it. If you can get it at least a couple seconds, I would be able to make a cut where it ends up being best.
I’d like to remove the TIEs but I need to keep them due to the references to lightspeed skipping that can’t really be removed. If we see the TIEs follow them, we can easily assume Poe pulled some shenanigans offscreen. Presumably something that made some sense besides teleporting across time and space, Rick and Morty style.

My stance on revising fan edits.

On an unrelated note, in the novelization, when Lando and the fleet arrive at Exegol there’s a moment where a bunch of different ships call in. “Mon Calamari fleet standing by. Ghost standing by.” Stuff like that. It’s got Inferno Squad, the Aces from resistance, Alphabet Squadron all calling in. Could be a cool way to expand on the final battle to show that the whole galaxy has united together.

Here I go (so genuine apologies in advance)

Considering some of the valid criticisms about the ST being reliant on ‘fan service’ this suggestion really accentuates that?

It’s not that it’s a bad idea, but I don’t see how it adds anything?

If it could be implemented organically, where it’s not drawing attention to itself, it might be ok to just add into the overall layering of the soundscape?

Maybe crackly radio audio in the falcon cockpit shots, but as I recall once Lando arrives the tone of the movie changes to being rousing where the score level goes up, average shot length goes down, so I just don’t know how it could be dropped in without it playing over the top of other things and then being too on the nose?

I’ve got lots of problems with TROS but the arrival of the ‘merchant navy fleet’ isn’t one of them, the movie directly addreses that the people/galaxy have come together so I don’t think that point is lacking enough in it’s execution to warrant hammering it home any further?

Don’t get me wrong I’m not STRONGLY against the idea as it’s not particularly polarising and so it’s insertion wouldn’t make or break anything.

I just wonder whether it’s needed for any other purpose other than serving fans?

I guess the choice is to either mitigate the fan servicey crap, or lean into it.

I vote mitigate. And this is coming from someone who overall likes the movie.

I thought the score for the fleet’s arrival was a little too triumphant, as if they already won before the battle had even started, I think something like this would have worked better.

I REALLY like it…I also don’t???

Can’t put my finger on it.

I like the tone shift, it makes it more ‘battle like’ and that the stakes are higher.

I totally agree with what was just said about the original score indicates victory rather than just re-balancing the odds just at the point the battle seemed lost, but something still feels missing?

Something is working here but I can’t articulate what isn’t

…but I definitely think you are on to something!

I think it should be a mix of both, with the original track starting when the battle shifts to the Resistances favour.

I’d like to see that shot (I only saw TROS once in the theater so my memory isn’t 100%).

Personally, I wish they had done a scene like this in the film. The moment is nice as is, but there’s a big difference between seeing a million ships and actually seeing the faces of the people inside their cockpit. Having a roll call would have been a nice way to not only humanize the big money shot, but also give the moment a breather (basically nothing happens in the space battle from this point on), and really give this specific climax the sense that it is the saga’s climax.

That said, I don’t think there’s a feasible way to do this in a fan edit.

I don’t have a problem with the music choice as is, but even considering your point, I think you took it too far. Not that what you picked doesn’t fit the scene, I just don’t think it’d fit the context of what’s going on. First of all, the battle has already started, but this track feels very much like “alright guys this is gonna be tough let’s get to work,” but we’ve already seen that portion of the battle. Second, it should be at least a little triumphant, Poe and the rest think they’ve just lost it all right before the fleet arrives - and it’s a surprisingly massive fleet that arrives - so it should be a bit of a victorious cheer moment.

That said…

If anything I’d argue for the opposite. A taste of victory when they arrive, then shift to a bit less chipper a mood because the battle’s not over yet.

Just to clarify, that’s just a video I found on YouTube, as for the aspect of triumph I think that could definitely be played around with.
“battle over Coruscant” is just so grandiose that I think it fits perfectly with the Peoples Fleet reveal.

Ha, gotcha, I think the way you worded your post lead me that way, plus I guess I tend to assume when someone posts a video with a low view count it’s their own.

Grandiose it definitely is, but I think the tone is just wrong for that moment.

Given the way the scene plays out, I don’t intuit a great deal of value in adding several people checking in by name. I may, however, want to add a few miscellaneous exclamations of “Skywalker!” at some point to tie into that part of the story.

And I don’t think the battle over Coruscant theme fits over the scene better than what was there originally.
