Why… are you here?
Stumbled upon this video on youtube https://youtu.be/757-FOQU41M and although its poorly executed, it’s an interesting concept that could be worth pursuing.

The only way I could see that working is making just voices like when Rey hears them. We can’t convincingly pull of ghosts for a conversation. Works better with the lore anyway.
And I am here because I like the idea of editing these films and others, both to be their best possible versions, and because I just like putting my stamp on the things I love.
I’m trying to get my hands on a high quality version of the TLJ deleted shots of Kylo Ren standing on the bridge of a destroyer. If anyone has that, a PM would be appreciated!

Me too !

Was that in a trailer somewhere?
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
It seems like it was included with the deleted scenes based off the time code. It’s been awhile since I looked through all of the deleted scenes. I think it is a part of the scene where Finn, Rose and DJ are sneaking through the destroyer.
RogueLeader, idir_hh,
PM sent! If anyone else is looking for those shots, let me know.

I’d be willing to take that deleted scene. Thinking about somehow putting it before the Mustafar slaughter in the intro of Episode 9 to try and slow it down a bit.
PM sent!
Hey if we’re serving up scenes, I’ll take a PM of the end celebration. I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
I don’t chime in here often (hell, I barely watch movies anymore). I don’t know if this could ever be pulled off, but my biggest complaint with TFA is that the blue lightsaber reveal really should have been saved for when Rey picks it up. I close my eyes when I watch the movie to save it (HAL’s edit is my go to) It was a missed opportunity done for a marketing fake out, in my opinion.
New video on the ST by Uniquenameosaurus. Certainly an interesting watch. More applicable to rewrites than edits, but who knows, maybe this’ll stir an idea in someone.
He lost me after sending Finn to achto instead of Rey even though she is the main character in his version.

Here is a test of this idea I had to illustrate Starkiller Base as a literal hyperspace cannon. Basically it ejects hyperspace into real space, which helps explain its ability to travel across the galaxy so quickly. And since hyperspace is effected by gravity, this helps explain how the “laser” splits apart to hit multiple planets at once. It also helps relate it more to the First Order’s other hyperspace-related technologies. I know red is a more intimidating color, but I thought I would play around with what it could look like.

Slaps forehead
Why didn’t I think of that! That’s brilliant! 😄
All that does is undo the ST’s partial rectifying of the OT’s inconsistent color theming. In other words, blue is a good guy color. I doubt I’d have made the hyperspace connection without you explicitly stating it.
Color theming isn’t really something I’m super beholden to, especially since the rules were already pretty lax in the OT. Plus, I kind of feel the Big, Evil Red Laser feels sort of cliché. I also think the dreadnought canon, the battering ram cannon, and the Xyston laser could all be replaced by green lasers, if you stick with the idea that they’re all using Death Star technology. If anything, that would help create more visual consistency between the movies.
I do think some additional touches could be added to drive the hyperspace connection home, like replacing the white of the beams with hyperspace tunnel effect. Also, the sounds Starkiller Bass makes could be infused more with sounds related to hyperspace.
An during the Resistance briefing, Snap says, “They’ve somehow created a hyper-lightspeed weapon, built within the planet itself.” So I think that line alone would help recontextualize the visuals of the blue beam.
I still think that if you’re going to show something explicitly Hyperspace related with this weapon, it should be an effect which puts the red beam into Hyperspace. For example, the beam could be red as it exits the weapon but would turn blue and disappear as it reaches a certain distance from the weapon. I’m thinking as the beam moves past the destroyer, Kylo sees it turn blue and disappear. It might cause some distortion above Takodana if we’re using the original cut of the film, I imagine a blue distortion appearing at once from horizon to horizon as if parts of the beam are ‘leaking’ out of Hyperspace. Then it emerges fully over the Hosnian system, becoming red again.

If you go with the Restructured version of the scene, you could use the shot as it passes by the Destroyer, sans Destroyer, and show it in a hyperspace tunnel, like how we often see the Falcon and other ships traveling through hyperspace.
The wide shot the planet with the laser coming out could show the laser disappearing around the corner of the screen, and then reappear as it approaches the planets, like you said.
Does anyone have any ideas on how Artoo could be made to have a larger role? He’s barely featured and it really bothers me. It should have been Artoo with Rey on Tatooine. BB-8 is Poes droid.
I’ve considered having Artoo accidentally upload prequel era memories to C-3P0, I’m currently trying to figure out how this plays into the narrative. I feel the prequels need to be referenced in this film in a way that his substantial and meaningful; if I can tie this in with Artoo being more integral to the plot, that would be ideal.
I think adding R2 and 3PO with Rey and Tattoine is a must.
It’s also pretty doable.

Yeah, I was planning to do that too. Have them in place of BB-8 in that final scene.
Kinda makes me wonder if they could be in the first shot of TPM, but I guess not since they don’t show up 'till much later.
