I was thinking about also using Sam Kim’s cover of Ben and Rey’s theme to rescore the kiss. Nothing necessarily wrong with John Williams’ music in that scene, just feels a bit off at what’s happening on screen. It may help the actions feel less off and more in the moment.

I worry about it not meshing stylistically, but I could see 2:49-3:00 being included.

Maybe we could contact Sam Kim? Asking for permission to use his songs and/or if he wants to participate in the edit, score some scenes

Eh… doesn’t seem to fit snugly. I don’t mind if anyone wants to reach out, but I don’t see this as particularly valuable. I would like, though, to gently fold in a couple bars of Across the Stars.

I wonder if any Poe dialogue from Resistance could help us imply that the Sith fleet was stashed during the days of the Empire. Add or replace something as Poe is briefing them on the gathered intel.

I actually went looking for something like that a while back and I think I did find some vague “First Order is planning an attack” and “relics of a bygone era” that we might be able to use. I haven’t tested any of it with TROS though.

Let me see if I can find them again.

Ben and Rey still had a love theme that John Williams wrote. Across the Stars was Anakin and Padmé’s love theme, very much how Han and Leia had a love theme too which mashed their themes together.

Did they?

NFB, if you could find those that’d be very helpful. I’d love to be able to spin it in that direction. The official explanation is just so farfetched. Smuggling spare junk doesn’t lead to the largest fleet in history that exactly replicates an old Star Destroyer model.

The Across the Stars album by Deutsch-Grammophon has a violin version of Rey’s theme played by Anne-Sophie Mutter that could be useful.

Agreed. This is also one the biggest things I would like to change. Sith Fleet, Sith Eternal, Final Order. There’s way too much verbiage regarding it.

During Poe’s first mission briefing, there are tons of Resistance reaction shots that can be used to alter his dialogue. I was thinking you could change a part of his dialogue to something like this:

The Emperor has been planning his revenge for years. He and his followers have been hiding in the Unknown Regions, with the largest fleet the galaxy has ever known. Relics from a bygone era.

Yeah, the whole “They conjured legions of Star Destroyers!” thing needs to go. A thousand Ringwraiths on a desolate lightning planet probably couldn’t build a fleet powerful enough to destroy the entire galaxy. A lost Imperial fleet stashed away as one of Palpatine’s contingencies would make much more sense. The fleet was described that way in some of the early leaks, most of which were much better than the actual movie. I’ll try and post some of that stuff that might be relevant to fan editing.

I guess the biggest issue is that they all have the big laser cannons on the bottom, but I’d be more willing to believe that the Sith Cult modified pre-existing Destroyers rather than build them all from scratch, don’t you think?

It doesn’t blend seamlessly but perhaps someone better at audio editing who has more time and actually wants to do this can make it work somehow. it was a shot in the dark anyway.

Rearranging the lines in the way Rogue outlined would help too. It does sound more like a note to end on than stick in the middle as I just did.

i’m very uninvested in this movie tbh, sorry if im not being much help

Now that we’re talking about potentially changing the origin story of the Sith fleet, I wanted to share something from the early leaks that could be relevant to the conversation.

One of Jason Ward’s leaks, from before the D23 trailer, described the Final Order / Wayfinder stuff differently than what we ended up getting. Here’s how he described it:

“The fleet is why Kylo Ren needs the Wayfinder device, I’m told. The fleet is the key Kylo Ren needs to unlock Palpatine’s legacy. This is sort of a Pandora’s Box for Kylo, it seems. He thinks he’s getting himself something powerful that answers to him, but Palpatine is not so willing to share his toys with anyone. Palpatine’s contingency plans weren’t to make sure Darth Vader’s grandson received his inheritance.”

This contradicts the final movie, where Kylo is looking for Palpatine specifically instead of the fleet, and Palpatine’s contingency actually was to have Kylo inherit his empire. However, I feel like the way the leaks described it would be much more interesting. It would be nice to have some tension between the two Sith, instead of a bland master-and-apprentice relationship. And also, Kylo searching for the lost fleet could be an effective way to remove all mentions of Palpatine from the opening crawl, giving Kylo an alternate reason to search for the Wayfinder.

That’s pretty cool. I think for it to work you’d need to pitch-shift it up just a little, and then extend the shots before and after to give it a little breathing room. That should give it enough to blend and feel like something he’s saying just a little under his breath.

I agree. Something more like this?

I’m sure there’s also a lot of “The Empire” he says elsewhere that we could stick after “…era” if we really want to hammer it in. I don’t volunteer.

Yeah, that blends in really really well. I still don’t like the term “Final Order” but I think the “bygone” line totally works.

Starkiller, thanks for sharing that. So yeah, you could make it where Kylo is looking for the fleet, and discovering that Palpatine is alive could be more of a surprise. You could set up in the crawl that the First Order needs something that will help solidify their rule. The fact that it is a lost Imperial fleet could be made clear in the crawl itself.

Sounds great, well done.

And while I’m not sure we could effectively get Kylo looking for the fleet at the start, making it into an old contingency would help. But we’ll see.

Maybe the crawl could refer to an ambiguous “Imperial contingency”. Basically, Kylo and the First Order are looking for a contingency the Empire left in case of their defeat. They don’t know what it is exactly, but they know it could help them.

Kylo doesn’t seem to be overtly searching for it, evidenced by the (admittedly potentially able to be modified) line “what could you give me?”.

If not tracking Palpatine specifically, following clues left behind by Snoke is vague enough to work.

Good point. I do think the line NFB added would be enough to make it clear that they’re an old fleet rather than newly constructed.
