The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 29

Here is my attempt at the opening. I added the opening shot of Mustafar from Rogue One, as well as doing my best to color grade it to match The Rise of Skywalker. I even used music from the soundtrack that was part of the opening that didn’t make it in. Some VFX work can be done to remove Krennic’s shuttle.

The color correction works, the music isn’t quite there. I’d recommend using the track “Journey to Exegol,” which is what plays when Kylo battles on Mustafar.

The track I used is the prologue which plays just before we see Ben in action, it’s extended on the soundtrack but wasn’t featured in the movie. Give it a listen, just after the crawl fanfare.

The drums and trumpets at the start of Journey to Exogol are fantastic, would be great to use that track for the forest fight.

Wrong track, that one is called “Fanfare and Prologue.” It was intended for the deleted scene of Kylo talking to the Oracle, and doesn’t really fit into the final movie. The one Dom was talking about, “Journey to Exegol,” is the one that plays immediately afterwards. It has a neat fusion of Kylo’s theme and the Mustafar theme from ROTS, and it would be really cool to hear during an extended opening scene.

EDIT: I see you corrected your post, so this post is kind of pointless now. I would like to hear the other track during the Mustafar scene, if someone could be able to do that. I haven’t been able to figure out this whole editing thing.

I know the track. Besides the fanfare it’s not played at all before we see Ben in action in the movie as is.

For the record, here’s Journey to Exegol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkHVhZWJSfk

At about 1:02 is where it picks up in the movie. I’d recommend starting at around :47 and leading into that.

I literally can’t tell the difference.

You could be a little more polite. 😕
It happens right after Rey grabs Leia’s lightsaber.
You see some spirit elements pass into her, then she glows and turns blue for a couple frames.

I wasn’t trying to be rude. I was just seeking clarification.

LOL, I am already not a fan of the whole “I am all the sith” and “I am all the Jedi” approach Abrams did. But that’s a discussion for a different thread, lol.

Nah, it adds to how over-the-top this movie is. It’s silly in a good way.

I can give it another go with the track you’re talking about.

Seems to work pretty well. I wish I had more time and quiet to be able to give more feedback for the moment.

Thanks, Hal. Don’t worry, just take your time. I hope our discussion to give you ideas is not necessarily putting stress on you, as we are brimming with ideas now the film’s available for us to work on.

Really digging this man; keep up the good work. It be cool to show maybe an establishing shot of Vader’s castle if possible, but it great either way.

I was thinking about adding that as well, but it may get a bit too complicated with the opening in the movie since the castle barely at all connected with the wayfinder’s location on Mustafar.

Here’s an idea to make Mustafar seem a bit more like Mustafar - add some lava flow to the wide shot of Kylo after the battle is over. It’s a locked shot so VFX shouldn’t be too too tricky. If you wanted to take the VFX even further I’d say make the ground a darker gray or black.

Alternatively, we could keep the ship in there, coloring it black to match Kylo’s from TFA. Then we could also put in the deleted TLJ scene and have someone say in the background something like, “Supreme Leader, your shuttle is ready”.

Maybe, but it could start to feel more like a fan edit and less like an actual movie.

Here’s another attempt at rescoring the duel. This time, as Hal wanted to play with, I removed Finn and Jannah interfering and swelled the music as Ben walks through the wave as Jar Jar Bricks did.

I like that! At first I wondered if ‘Anakin vs. Obi-Wan’ was a good fit but it seems appropriate. The music drop off helps accent Leia cutting in.

Is there unused score on the soundtrack that was originally meant for this duel?

My stance on revising fan edits.

I don’t think there is, except for the score for the second half of the duel that ended up in the film.

I honestly kinda like Rey pushing Finn back. It shows how desperate she is to run away from her problems alone, how she doesn’t want her friends to get hurt.

Please don’t remove Rey force pushing Finn as it’s a actually quite an emotional moment in that scene.

Also, I think there is a structural necessity in having Finn be there to see Rey leave, so they know she actually left the planet. Though as long as they see her leave that is okay. But Rey pushing Finn arguably contributes to her fear of hurting the people she cares about, like Chewie and BB-8.
