The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 25

One weird sense of continuity not followed I’ve noticed at all my viewings, is no fade to black at the end credits just a cut to black. It felt like no one at Lucasfilm didn’t think of that despite it being a way it always been done from the originals, special editions, prequels, 7, 8 and the spin offs. Then again this film had very little thought or care put into it but that’s a different topic. I know it’s a strange nit pic, its the credits. It’s just when your when your use to something ending some way for years and the supposed last episode in the Skywalker saga does a cut to black, it’s like Porky Pig not saying “That’s All Folks.” at the end of Looney Tunes. Now it may have been fixed for home release I won’t know til the 31’st, but I just thought I throw that out there.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

So I just put the song over the fight on the Death Star Wreckage. Didn’t do any work to it at all (as I am not very good at editing), and it seemed to work pretty good:

That’s incredible. It needs some fine tuning of course, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be too much work.

What are you talking about? The end of the movie had a circular wipe into the credits, just like every other Star Wars movie. I don’t know what you mean with this “fade to black” or “cut to black” stuff.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

I assume he means at the very end of the credits?

That makes sense. Not a big deal to me though, since I don’t sit through the end credits of most movies.

I like this idea a whole lot. Just some fine tuning and I think it would be a great addition to any edit!

But all of that is still kept with what I propose…

Maybe I’ve been wording it wrong, but I’m not proposing that the crawl ends and Kylo is already on Exegol, I’m saying the crawl ends and you pan down to see Kylo using the Wayfinder (already in his possession) to navigate to Exegol. You’d just be excising the parts actually on Mustafar.

My thoughts are similar with yours in regards to the ending of the crawl and the opening scene of Kylo in his TIE with the Wayfinder.

I know HAL wants to keep it as is, which I get, the issue is even if one has the wording alluding to anything, the audience still is wondering “Where is he, what are they doing? Why is the thing here? Who is guarding it, why are they guarding it?”

I feel like the crawl has to be more explicit about it so we understand why Kylo is there, why there is fighting and why the item is there.

The opening is similar to The Force Awakens, however, TFA at least has the guy who has The thing and there is dialogue that revolves around THE THING. For TROS, there isn’t anything. Just fighting and we get THE THING without anything more. That’s why it falls flat for me. To much rushing around. We HURRY FIGHT HERE and HURRY UP FLY OVEER THERE. IT would be better, personally, to just have WE ARE FLYING HERE!

I’m starting to think that without any other footage or delete scenes to work with, it makes sense to go ahead and tell us Kylo is searching for Palpatine. 😕

You could say in the crawl that he’s searching for a mysterious, yet familiar, Dark Side presence that has reemerged. Don’t say that it’s Palpatine in the crawl and let his first appearance be a surprise, even if he’s in the first Act.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

Using the “hints” that you’ve used in your TFA and TLJ, as well as Poppa’s edit, there are some little nudges in the last two movies that one does not have to flat out say it in the crawl.

I don’t think it’s quite the same thing, as the visuals make it pretty obvious what the wayfinder is doing before they ever call it that.

Considering how good the Star Destroyer above Takodana looks in your edit of TFA. Are you considering to add more planets at the ending with ships falling form the atmosphere? Coruscant maybe?

Author

There’s been talk of adding Coruscant if the Ewoks are repurposed to witness the Falcon crash landing. And maybe depict Kylo’s destroyer as being above Coruscant.

That’s a fair point, we do visually see what it does. However, we still don’t get the context of "Why here, Who are these people Kylo and crew are attack, are they guarding it? Why are the guarding it? Where the heck are we? Why is it in some stone box thingy? etc. etc. There are too many unanswered questions.

You can remove all that baggage by having it in the crawl and we see Kylo using it to get his directions. Much cleaner. Or else you have to have long crawl paragraph to shed some explanation.

Personally, even as is in the theatrical film I didn’t find it confusing. We don’t know the answers to those questions, but it doesn’t matter.

Okay, so here’s my first contribution to this edit:

As per Hal’s request to me, I have replaced 3PO’s silly “Whoever this Chewie fellow is…” line with a more fresh out of the box thing for him to say:

https://youtu.be/-d_X2ypR14U

In this version 3PO says a line taken from one of the cartoon animations:
“And I will be your protocal droid!”

Looks really good…well done.

PS…Are you still working on changing the “No Parking on the Beach” scene in TLJ?

Lol. It can be tedious finding good dialogue for 3PO from cartoons and stuff.

Not really needed, but I think it’d be cool to change 3PO’s interaction with the troopers. (“That’s not even a language!”) He should just haplessly be trying to find protocol to attend to, not necessarily aware that the troopers are hostile.

I do like the moment as it is, so it’s just an idea.

Maybe it has to do with upgrading to an SSD, but now FCP7 seems like it’s going to take foreeeeever to encode TLJ and TFA, so it may be a while before I really get started with TROS.
