It’s going to be so weird when Revisited is finished, and gratifying for you, Ady. These are going to become, at that point, a lot of people’s go-to versions of the whole OT, even if/when Disney releases the theatrical cuts.

I would advise against posting links on social media sites. Ideally, you should consult an attorney. Your edits are popular, and Disney is litigious.

A suggestion I want to put in, Ady.

I was at a ‘film-with-live-orchestra’ concert of SW:ANH and during the detention center shoot-out sequence, the women in the audience were cheering as Leia takes Luke’s blaster and was shooting at the stormtroopers eventhough it appeared that no troops were going down by her firing. Mind you, this event I attended took place after Carrie Fisher’s death.

That got me thinking.

Perhaps you would consider creating a ‘pick-up’ shot of some stormtroopers falling down from Leia’s laserblasts to replace this one from the final edit.

To asses, here are some footage from the film’s final edit of troopers firing at our heroes during that said sequence.

Only 4 shots have some troops falling, but not caused by Leia’s laserblast. Rather than duplicate any frames from these said footage, perhaps you can use CGI to come up with an alternative shot of that same angle by adding a few falling troops and use the smoke diffusion in front of the troops, that was established in these footages, to your advantage.

I’ll admit that the ‘me-too’ movement had something to do with it, also, but I thought I would throw the idea out there.

You can never discount the possibility that a shot could have been moved in the timeline I have not really looked at it or looked for there being any discrepencies in this part, but what you are saying does make sense that they came in there to rescue Princess Leia and she end’s up rescuing them. Does it matter that she does not shoot a storm trooper? Not really but It does fit the narrative that she becomes the Hero. Almost every gun battle has footage in the wrong order but I must admit the cell block has always felt like the best gun battle that was not messed about with… It would require a bit inspection of laser bolt angles and do they correspond with the person firing them and does the angle match up… That would be all you could perhaps deduce but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility it had shots moved about given the state of all the other gun battles but there would be no need to create CGI storm troopers.

EDIT:
I can confirm that Lukes laser blast down the corridor after he get’s off the radio was moved so you have made a valid point and that shot’s were moved about looking down the corridor but not scenes with the actors weather that means Leia shot a storm trooper remains to be seen but good shout 😃 The Chinese puzzle can begin.

My only gripe on this one was the controls being shot on the other (last) Door to stop more troops coming in which sealed off their “only escape route” was used for the Blast Door that sealed Vader off from docking bay 327. If you watch carefully Han Nearly hits it as he is running then the storm trooper shoots and I imagine the door control is then destroyed a short insert of footage. In the following shot the door control is intact because they probably blew these things up at the end of shooting the scene, so the door control would need cropping out of the scene where the storm trooper waves on the others to make it a scene without problems. Or it simply is inserted after the stormtrooper waves the others on.

It’s taken me FOREVER to find any of the footage, but Adywan, you really should check this out. I had the opportunity to see this film in an OMNIMAX dome, and the redone opening scene of Star Wars was one of the most amazing looking and sounding things I’ve heard to date. Not sure if you’d want to try to recreate anything from this, but if so WOW it could be amazing.

In short, the entire blockade runner opening scene was reshot for OMNIMAX with an all new audio mix. From the opening shot, the starfield looked far more breathtaking. I think I remember something along the line of a nebula in the background. The biggest additions were several shots from the Blockade runner firing back at the Star Destroyer with the sound of several blasts exploding offscreen in the back of the auditorium. One of the shots from the Star Destroyer creates a massive blast wave that shook the room when it hits the blockade runner. When the actual special edition came out and it didn’t include this, it was a huge letdown for me. I don’t believe this footage has ever made it to any home video format.

I saw at Omnimax too. I don’t remember if they mention it in the video, but they couldn’t use the original Star Destroyer model for one reason or another, they had to use the Empire Strikes Back model.

On a side note, at one of the Star Wars Celebrations they had the original Episode IV Star Destroyer on display. I was filming it but talking to my wife and looked away for minute. My son (about 4) went under the red rope and was reaching out for the model before I stopped him. He was about 6 inches away from touching it and possibly knocking it over. I have the whole thing on video.

Comparison of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 4K Disney+ vs Blu-Ray Version-

Cool comparison video, but it looks like all the laser bolts are washed out. There is a video for each of the first 6 movies.

Whatever sources they were using for the Disney+ comparisons were messed up, we discovered the actual video is much better. They also have “SDR vs HDR” videos, and that’s not how either of those formats work.

i´m sure disney like yellows.
the colors from bluray are mostly better.

At least it’s not overly pink, though.

Hope everyone is doing well. Is this project still happening? I got worried when I saw the video taken down by disney on Vimeo.

It’s still going, I assure you. After all, Ady’s not the “throwing in the towel” type of guy. Not even personal stuff could stop him from doing ESB. The only thing he gave up on in Revisited was the prequels.

Just Yesterday I finally found a way to watch ANH Revisited (I have a chromebook so I couldn’t download with the Mega File), and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to watch ESb and for HD and ROTJ to come out!

The colors on ESBR:HD are absolutely gorgeous. Seeing the state of the colors on the disney+ side of things is really disheartening especially for ANH, even though they are somewhat better than the blu-rays. I am so happy that Ady is doing the best he can with his color grade, it’s just made me realize how damn important color grading actually is for the overall tone of a film. Don’t have any real insight hear just wanted to say thank you to ADY once again.

The colour grading side of things continues as i work through the film. That was an early shot just after i did the first stages of grading. This is how the shot looks now, and that will probably still get some tweaking before the films release

Beautiful.
