The film has now passed Rogue One worldwide, but I guess the chances of it passing Rogue One domestically are pretty much zero at this point.
So what will the final domestic total be? Like $510 million?

Just checked the predictions chart again. Myself and StarkillerAG are closest to the domestic total, and I’m closest to the worldwide total, it seems.
Congrats @StarkillerAG for getting the domestic total right with me. 😃
Just to recap:
Official domestic opening weekend total:
$177,383,864Congrats to rocknroll41 for predicting the closest (175m).
Still too close to call between these predictions for Domestic and Worldwide totals:
User Opening Domestic Worldwide rocknroll41 $175M $500M $975M StarkillerAG $200M $500M $900M DrDre $180M $540M $1.2B

I did the math and yeah you’re right. It still has a shot at getting closer to $540 million that it would be to $500 million flat. It’s a tight call, tho! Nonetheless, I apologize for prematurely assuming that myself and StarkillerAG were locked in for winning that round.

No apologies. Actually, I didn’t even see your post when I made mine. I just wanted to make sure I finished what I started.
Movie is at $1.066 billion now, it seems. When can we expect the total to plateau? Are we there yet, or does it make sense to wait a few more weeks just in case there’s one last spike?

It’s going to keep nudging up for several more months. Nothing can be final until then.

Several more months? The Blu-ray comes out in late March. I know the box office will keep changing for the next month, but I doubt many people are going to go see a movie that was released two months ago. I’m 90% sure the current box office numbers are very close to the final results.
My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX
I think it’s safe to just call it, definitely.

If you look at other movies, they have box office numbers for months after the home video release. Some movies are still playing in second run theaters and people do go to them. Plus there are foreign markets. So until it is out of all theaters, you can’t really finalize the numbers.

Second run theaters typically don’t make hundreds of millions of dollars though. So I’d say that the numbers are basically final once the movie gets released on Blu-ray. No one wants to watch a movie in an empty movie theater, when they could just buy it on Blu-ray.

Actually, lots of people do. But it probably is down to the range of 1-10 million at this point. When you look it up in the future that will be included and whatever you post now will not be accurate. I favor accuracy over rushing.
I went in saying I would give prizes to the three people who got closest to opening weekend, domestic and worldwide, and it does seem the three closest people are rocknroll (who I have already spoken to), Starkiller and Dre. Right? I have three prizes, so we can award three people!
Also Dre, I would love for you to do a write up about your conclusions about your research now that we know that the numbers are pretty close to settled.

Well what shall I say? I think ultimately the final BO was predictable to some extent, although the mixed reception probably prevented the film from more closely approaching TLJ’s box office. I think the poor performance of Solo, and less than exceptional performance of TROS hammers home, that we’ve entered an era, where Star Wars films are just seen as the next big blockbuster on the agenda.
With an abundance of content it all evens out, spiritually is it less “special” in the same way? People have said as much after ROTJ and ewok adventures and each prequel. In time maybe those glimmers within TROS can be appreciated, but only by those who are open to it. For me it really was the lack of cohesion in the end which couldn’t string enough of the same people along all the way from TFA to TROS, will Mando take it as many years in seasons with the same level of captive attention? With an over-saturated market is the drop off comparatively worse? I think beyond superhero and Star Wars fatigue there is general blockbuster fatigue. Even a bad Terminator sequel feels associated with a general cultural reputation that in this sub category of franchise sequel/reboots (with or without returning original cast), the good ones are the exception and not the rule.

I’ll definitely still be seeing the next one.
$1.073 billion at the moment. Hopefully it at least ends up making more than Joker (which ended its run at $1.074 billion).

Nah, I just think it’d be embarrassing if TRoS made less money than an r-rated film that wasn’t even released in China.
The movie was shit, Disney needs a wake up call (although it deserved much less)
