Art is subjective. You might think some of this is stupid, I happen to think it’s a masterpiece.

The grass is always greener, but “masterpiece” seems a tad strong for a partial screenplay of a film that was never made.

Yeah I don’t get how you can call 5 pages of a first draft script of an unproduced script a “masterpiece.” That’s more than a little silly.

Robert meyer Burnett read out most of the script on his YouTube channel and based on that script I think we would have gotten a film worthy of the Star Wars name.
The world building, the drama, the lore, the classic comedy and the politics, it’s all in there for me.

Personally I’m waiting to get my hands on the script myself.

Maybe there’s a chance it gets adapted into a novel.

Doubt that’d happen anytime soon, if ever. We only ever got one unproduced Lucas script adapted into anything, and that was literally the very first SW draft (so much more historically interesting).

A lot of these unused concepts can get repurposed into other stories, tho. I’m holding out for that, at least!

Ok I’ll admit that all of those are actually pretty decent.

I’m going to save those script images when I get a chance, but it might be a good idea for you, Dom, or someone else, to do that as well just in case this user decides to delete these posts.

EDIT: Also, could someone go back and find Making Star Wars’ posts about what he thought was the Trevorrow script but then pack pedaled and said it was the Jack Thorne draft? Some of the concept art from the second draft seems to line up with what he said.

I gotta imagine if random reylo-user 583 on twitter’s got the pages, the full script isn’t too far from leaking in its entirety very, very soon.

The question is how long before someone either makes a fan-comic out of it, or tries to actually animate everything using Battlefront II or Fallen Order or something like that.

Honestly would love to see a fan comic. Regardless if it was better/worse/equal to TROS, it would just be cool to see visualized, like the Dark Horse comic for “The Star Wars” rough draft.

Grass is always greener for sure, as much as the concept art looks fun some of these script leaks are not. I’m seeing the same flat pandering lines that would have been just as forced if we ended up with this version plus or minus a few bright spots.

This is legitimately awful. The Lando/Leia scene is pretty decent, but the rest seems like it would have just been an even more awkward follow up to a film that already didn’t leave much of an out for its sequels.

Also, maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that Rose torture scene makes me very uncomfortable…

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

I don’t think that’s what Rose means when she asks if he is “trying to use the force” on her.

I’m also waiting for the entire script. Whoever is posting these is cherry picking them and I think reading the complete script is the only way to know what kind of quality writing it is.

As for the concept art, look how far things changed for the other movies. Nothing would have looked exactly like the concept art. As cool as it is, it would have been further adapted and altered to get to the final look. This story has some neat concepts, but a few neat concepts, scenes, and art does not make this a better story.

EXT. TEMPLE OF MORTIS - DAY
Kylo Ren ascends the steps to a sealed stone door.
The Temple is cut into the mountaintop. Uninterpretable
carvings, runes and statues allude to civilization and
knowledge long lost.
He reaches out. The door bends to his will and OPENS. A
millennium of dust spills from its cracks.
But he does not enter. He knows he’s not alone.
KYLO
I knew you’d come.
Kylo turns to face REY.
His mask surprises her. She’s only seen the projection of his
ideal self in their connections. Not this.
KYLO (CONT’D)
The Force is strong in this place.
Can you feel it?
A low RUMBLE. She’s digging into his mind.
REY
You’re in pain. Beneath that mask.
KYLO
Get out of my head. You won’t like
what you find.
He FORCE-PUSHES HER BACK. Her feet slide back a few inches,
but she withstands it, steadfast.
KYLO (CONT’D)
I’m stronger than Anakin Skywalker.
Stronger than his son.
REY
But you’re still afraid.
KYLO
Of what? You?
REY
Of what you’ve become. The Dark
Side has left you empty. Alone.
KYLO
I don’t have to be alone. With the
power of this place, we could rule
the galaxy as the Ancients did. The
Dark Side and the Light.
REY
You still think I’d join you. After
what you did to my family?
Kylo falters a bit.
REY (CONT’D)
We’re you going to tell me here?
Weaken me with the truth? I know
what you did. Deep down, I’ve
always known.
She circles him like a lion.
REY (CONT’D)
My parents didn’t sell me for
drinking money. They were hiding me
from you.
KYLO
So you remember.
FLASH TO
The Knights of Ren in the rain–the image from Rey’s Force
vision when she first touched the lightsaber.
A distant child SCREAMS.
KYLO (CONT’D)
Snoke made his orders clear. Find
anyone who could destroy him. It
didn’t take us long to find you.
REY
You killed my parents.
KYLO
You blame me for your life on
Jakku. You should thank me for it.
You were safe.
REY
Say it! Did you kill them?
KYLO
I did.
A blast of powerful energy EXPLODES AROUND HER, clearing the
temple mount of loose rocks.
REY
You murdered Han Solo…
KYLO
I’m not here for you, Rey.
REY
Millions of people…
KYLO
All I want is behind that door.
Rey IGNITES HER DUAL-LIGHTSABER.
REY
Then you’ll have to kill me.
Kylo lights his own saber.
KYLO
I know.
Kylo ATTACKS. They CLASH on the steps of the Temple. Both far
more powerful than the last time they met.
One of these two will not survive.

Wish we had gotten this instead of “Muh baby palpatine”.

FIVE DAYS!

I’m feeling good about this getting turned into a fan-made comic before long.

Author

A part of me is skeptical if the script is real, but even if it isn’t, the writer has clearly gone through great pains to match the details we’ve heard about the script already, so it being real or a well-made fan adaption doesn’t make a big difference to me. You could read this script and get the gist of what the real DOTF script is like. But this might actually be the real script, I guess we’ll see if anyone corroborates it or proves it false.

Author
Time

This is real.

The pre-existing details you’re talking about came from this .pdf in the first place.

What’s more interesting to me is whether Connolly/Trevorrow are the ones who leaked it to Meyer-Burnett in the first place a couple months ago.

It’s most likely that it was leaked by an associate of Colins with his permission.

I’m pretty sure this is the real script. It’s too well-written to be fake.

I’ve just started reading it, and so far it seems really good. The First Order is portrayed as an actual menacing force, the main characters are written very well, and the themes of TLJ are expanded upon in a really satisfying way. If this was the movie that was released in theaters, I think I would mostly enjoy the sequel trilogy.

Thanks. I’ve added it to my script collection and I’ll give it a read when I have a chance. Again, I think having Kylo so conflicted for three films and it not ending in his redemption is a mistake.

It does end with his redemption though. At the end of the movie, Kylo learns how to drain the life force out of people, and uses it to drain Rey’s life force. Just when he’s about to kill Rey, Leia talks to him through the force, convincing him to give some of his life force back to Rey, sacrificing himself to save her. It’s a last minute redemption, but it’s still a redemption.

I would highly recommend checking the script out when you have a chance. You may disagree with some of the choices Trevorrow made, but the quality of writing is very high.
