Star Wars 4K77 - Regraded - No DNR (Released) — Page 3

I wonder, could Williarob potentially make a v1.5 using Dr Dre’s LUTs the same way he did with Sanjuro for v1.4?

Yeah, and this time I won’t forget to download it. 😀

Thanks for your hard work on this, it looks fantastic 😃

will there be a new DNR version with better colors?
and is there a plan for bonus content like at 4k83?
the making of star wars in 1080p?
thanks all they work on this.

Total noob question here. Is a regrade essentially just a frame by frame recoloring? So this is essentially a version of 4k77 that an editor has gone through and recolored frame by frame for consistency or whatever?

So the original 4k77 release was “as is” whereas you could view this a version of 4k77 that has had specifically the color “remastered”?

Thanks!

Yes, I think that sums it up quite nicely. This has indeed been remastered, because Sanjuro was kind enough to send me his project files, and I could therefore apply his new grade to the lossless master and generate a new version - which is better than what usually happens, where somebody takes the h.264/5 version and regrades that, resulting in a slight generational loss.

Thanks for the clarification! Is the version you’re referencing the “Star Wars: 4K77 v1.4” release I’m seeing floating around? Want to make sure I’m actually grabbing the version we’re discussing.

I would also love this, if at all possible!

I believe that’s the plan, once Dre is finished with his regrade.

Oh, it’s not finished yet? Dre posted his LUT v2 a page back, I thought that meant it was already completed.

That isn’t Dre’s grade, it’s a quick adjustment of Sanjuro’s. Dre’s grade is a shot-by-shot one that’s been in the works for quite a while.

This is great, I didn’t even know about this. All I have is the original 4K77, (in 4K and 1080p versions,) and unlike that, this actually looks like how the movie’s supposed to lol. This might just be my version to watch. Also, looking forward to Dre’s regrade too!

Is the Regraded version (NOT v1.4, just the regraded) a re-encode? Or does it change the colors with no loss in quality?

I think it’s a re-encode, but I think you would be best off just getting the 1080p No DNR v1.4 on thestarwarstrilogy forum.

If it alters the colors it has to be a reencode by definition. The question is whether it’s a reencode of an already reencoded version, or whether it’s a reencode of the master file (so, how many generations of encoding has it undergone).

I’ve just watched 4K77 v1.4. It corrects some problematic shots but introduces new problems as well. Slightly crushed blacks on the top of the hair of all three people when Luke is trying to announce his departure from the farm (a problem similar to SSE), a rather dark face of uncle Owen when buying droids from the Jawas. As if he had used some charcoal to conceal himself. Still lots of space for improvement in the future releases.

Yeah, I think it’s a reencode of v1.0, not the master files, but I just wanted to check here to make sure. I was having trouble finding the official v1.4 but found the regraded version quite easily.

So there are two different v1.4s out there? Now I wonder what it is I’ve seen. It’s definitely labeled v1.4 but seems to have so many flaws… o.O

No, unless you count the 4k and 1080p versions as different. The first thing Sanjuro did was color correct and reencode the existing 1.0 release, and this is called the regrade (which is what the original post is about). Then, he sent Williarob his work files, which allowed Williarob to apply those to the master files, and he released version 1.4, which is NOT a reencode. v1.4 is the version to have, no matter which resolution it’s in.

I’m working on improving the colors of the v1.0 no DNR version. The aim is to do a reel by reel regrade, that retains the relationships of the colors between shots as seen on the print, but eliminate the green cast seen in many of the shots of v1.0. I’ve finished the first two reels. Here are a few samples.

I am very much looking forward to this, Dre. It’s been a long wait, but for the right colors, it’ll be worth it.

Hello I have just imported the file and am seeing some lag (The LUT will disappear when a new shot comes up, and will be added later while watching in the viewport). While I assume this is just Da Vinci slowing down or something, can anybody confirm this is a normal occurrence? Thanks for the input! I’ve Looked closer and it appears the LUT keyframes are outta whack, any way to fix this?
