Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 28

Yeah, I remember that. It’s still on my changelist. I’m just trying to expand upon it.

This is really far out, but what if we took the Reylo thing to the extreme and somehow implied that Rey was carrying Ben’s child? I have no idea how to do this, but it would provide some justification for her suddenly adopting the Skywalker name if the baby inside her was the sole heir in the Skywalker bloodline. Just a thought.

I think that with your suggestion there, you’re fixing one complication by introducing something far more complicated. I see what you’re trying to do, but I think it’d confuse an audience more. Besides, Rey taking the Skywalker name at all is something I think is popular for removal here, as is the kiss (let alone implied offscreen sex) with Kylo.

Force healing is one thing. It was used to great effect in The Mandalorian after all. But Force revival or resurrection is a dark side power as per Revenge of The Sith. This cannot be overstated, people! Much worse, both (healing and revival) are used lazily in TRoS as a mere plot convenience.

A better movie/ending would be if Kylo and the Knights of Ren were trying to unlock this Sith power all along as a way of resurrecting Sidious and Vader (who also were trying to unlock this power themselves while they were alive), i.e., “I will finish what you started, grandfather.” Kylo and the KoR ultimately succeed in unlocking this power, but as Kylo is using it (or about to use it) to resurrect Vader, Anakin appears to him and confirms that he did in fact turn to the light side before he died—something that Kylo had been deceived by Snoke into believing was a lie. Kylo begins to doubt everything he has been endeavoring to do, but the Knights of Ren do not see things Kylo’s way and are not so easily dissuaded from their goal. Thus, the KoR are determined to press on and resurrect Sidious. They are somewhat successful in doing so as they revive him partially to a very weakened state.

Kylo fights and defeats the KoR after tensions escalate, but Rey is killed by Sidious when he catches her off guard.

Sidious tries to manipulate Kylo (who is not quite turned to the light side yet) and puts him in a position where he can either complete Sidious’ revival using his newfound darkside power (restoring him to full health and power), or revive Rey by the same means. However, reviving Rey all by himself will require him to sacrifice his own life because it will deplete too much of his life force. He revives her anyway and dies, thereby completing his redemption arc. Rey promptly kills a very weak but still formidable Sidious. The end.

Many of the elements to make this version work are already present, but I don’t know what could realistically be stitched together from the source material. However, it would mean a few things that I consider preferable: That only Kylo—with his cult-like devotion to the old ways of the Sith—could resurrect people using Force, not Rey. It would also make Kylo (at least initially) and the Knights of Ren the main villains instead of Sidious, which I think is fitting since the KoR were there in the ST all along just waiting for something relevant to do, yet Sidious rather abruptly came out of nowhere and ruined Anakin’s sacrifice (in this proposed version, it would be more about honoring Anakin’s legacy).

Here’s an idea.

To put it mildly I disliked Rey’s backstory in TROS, specifically her parent’s characterisation as “good” people that rejected their father’s legacy. For me this removes any nuance from Rey’s arc and renders her triumph as somewhat redundant.

Now as some have said we can change this by removing any trace of her parents “selling her to protect her” and maintain that they where indeed filthy junktraders who where cast out to Jakku by their father “Palps” and tried* to get out by selling their daughter.

Here is where it gets a little radical

*TROS flashback: as a young Rey screams for her parents to come back she suddenly bursts into anger and unleashes lightening at the ship disabling it and causing it to crash land, killing her parent’s, thus being buried in a paupers grave on Jakku.

This event traumatises young Rey to such an extent that she blocks this memory from her mind and even alters it, subconsciously making up a narrative that someday they will return for her.

For me this gives Rey a more pronounced struggle against the dark side and a strong inclination to it, add to that her dark lineage and that puts all the odds against her, but it ultimately makes her triumph at the end more impactful and makes for a more interesting arc.

This idea could be implemented with a few dialogue alterations here and there especially during the Kijimmi force fight since Kylo is wearing a mask, young Rey shooting lightning at the ship during the flashback can be done with some VFX work and maybe reusing some shots from the Passana sequence.

I’m not really sure what can be done with Ochi of Bastoon and his place in the story though.

What do you guys think?

You know, I had heard people speculate before about Rey killing her parents, but I actually think that could be an interesting angle to make Rey doubt her inherent goodness. I think you could actually do this idea and keep Rey as a nobody.

Since a lot would have to change to keep Rey Nobody, that reveal would be a good way for certain things like Rey blowing up the ship, or Kylo revealing something to Rey that shocks her to match the level of her reaction.

Like you said, it could be used in different ways:

  1. Keep Rey Palpatine, but make Rey’s parents people who didn’t care about her.
  2. Make Rey a nobody, but allow Rey to have one final reveal about her parents that ties into her self-doubt about her inner darkness.

I think I would prefer the movie not revealing any new information about her past, but if that would be challenging to achieve, this could be an interesting reveal to work with. Either way, I think the big thing you’d have to change would be to make the ship in Rey’s vision be a different ship than Ochi’s.

Having her kill her parents, just like having them sell her to protect her, is an idea that’s good, but not as good as the alternative. I prefer the idea that it really did seem possible they might come back and she had to slowly come to terms with it.

Author

Anyone else think it might be a good idea to throw in Rey’s original name (solana, as per Trevorrow’s script) in there? Or would it just be redundant?

Author
Time

I don’t think there is a point, really. I also don’t like how it sounds like the feminine version of Solo.

Yeah but she already came to terms with that in TLJ which leaves us with very few options for her internal conflict in TROS. I think throwing some dirt on Rey’s “squeaky clean” image by making her the one that killed her parents would go along way.

Just thoughts really but what if the “dead talking” is in the very first episode. When Hux and the first order generals are talking to the Supreme leader they see Palpatine. But it’s a ruse to generate a myth that the Emperor survived. When alone Renn sees Snoke. The final show down would be Renn delivering Rey to Smoke and Renn killing him. The Palpatine in the last film is literally a puppet to make convincing holocasts with.

Time

The whole Snoke/Palpatine connection could really be more interesting.

For example, we could have Snoke be inhabited by the spirit of Palps, created specifically as a sacrificial vessel for Kylo to destroy. Under the TROS rules, if Kylo were to kill Snoke/Palps in anger, the Sith would possess Kylo and Palps would win. Snoke’s desire to turn Kylo fully dark is a necessary component of this plan. Since Snoke is killed by Kylo before he is dark, the spirit of Palps must return to Exegol and his ruined body once more, but through the Snoke plan he learns firsthand of Rey’s power.

To make this idea explicit in TFA/TLJ would go a long way to making the trilogy feel connected by a central villainous plan - the plan of Palpatine attempting to gain immortality first through the Skywalker line, then through that of his own granddaughter. It probably wouldn’t even be that hard. Snoke has a lot of mannerisms that mimic Palpatine already, so all that would be needed would be some explicit lines or words from Palpatine layered under Snoke’s lines like Gandalf/Sauruman from the Two Towers, and a burst of blue spirit energy when Snoke dies. TROS wouldn’t necessarily need to be changed in this regard, though it would be neat to have some confirmation that Snoke was Palps all along.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Their connection is something I’ve been giving thought to as well.

Something I had considered was that maybe after Luke and the Jedi were out of the equation, “Snoke” would have sent Kylo to kill Palpatine, thus tricking Kylo into becoming his new vessel. That was the original plan. In this approach, only a fragment of Palpatine is in Snoke, puppeteering him. So, Kylo killing Snoke wouldn’t be enough to transfer his spirit. Instead, Kylo would have to “kill” Palpatine directly. Obviously this all is conjecture, we could make it however we wanted considering what little information we have, but I think that might be clearer than having to kill Snoke when he is dark enough. Kylo already seemed pretty dark, and Rey wasn’t dark when Palpatine tried to have her kill him.

Basically, I think Snoke’s function was as a buffer between Luke, the Jedi, and Palpatine. He would be a “phantom menace” once again and destroy the Skywalker family from within. Primarily by seducing Ben Solo to the dark side, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Palpatine was also responsible for the vision Leia had that her son would die if she were to complete her Jedi training. But once the Jedi were finally gone, he would return.

I definitely think it would be better if Kylo killing Snoke wasn’t part of Palpatine’s plan. If it was, I feel it would take away from the agency Kylo earns by killing his master. Then in TROS, we could have Kylo Ren and Palpatine more at odds, rather than Kylo running around seemingly doing what Palpatine wants.

Or, maybe it was Palpatine’s plan to use Kylo’s conflicted heart against him in order to bring the dyad together, then he would call them to Exegol and drain their life force. But it seems like Palpatine wasn’t aware of them being the dyad, so you would have to change things to fit that. I just think I prefer the idea that Palpatine wanted Ben to be everything Vader failed to be, to be the perfect vessel. But the unknown variable that is Rey throws off his plans. But once he realized Rey was powerful too, I think he decided either Rey or Ben could be a suitable candidate, and whoever survived and reached him on Exegol would win the prize of being possessed by the literal devil for the rest of their lives.

I have an idea for an edit of a scene in The Last Jedi: remove the shot of Yoda lifting his finger before the lightning hits the tree just as Luke is about to burn it, as well as Yoda hitting Luke with his cane. That scene creates huge plot holes, like for example, why didn’t Obi-Wan decapitate Darth Vader on Bespin with a lightsaber? It also contradicts the scene where Obi-Wan mentions that he cannot interfere in The Empire Strikes Back, as it turns out that Force ghosts can actually interact with the real world.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

It is supposed to happen only in certain places, strong with the Force (like Ach-To).

So would you also cut Luke catching the saber in TROS? I think we’re better off just to leave Force ghost rules a mystery rather than try to rationalize it in a fan edit.

I think Snoke should just be Palpatine’s latest Sith apprentice. Have Palps call Darth Whatever once and voila.

This is a good idea. If you went with the method of garbling Snoke’s dialogue and giving him subtitles you could write a backstory that Palpatine trained him in secret because he was starting to distrust Vader.

Author

You don’t need to scramble Snoke’s voice, though. Sidious is the one who would bring it up. And he doesn’t have to be a secret apprentice, given the 30 year gap in Palpatine’s timeline.

Useful Information from the TROS Visual Dictionary To keep in mind.
(Source reddit)

Many of these are obvious and already stated before.

The Empire took over the famous “Jedi” planet Ilum one year after Revenge of the Sith, and started terraforming projects. Later, it became Starkiller Base. Still don’t know if the Empire itself wanted to transform it into a superweapon, considering there was the Death Star already.

Vader already knew Luke was his son during the hologram scene in Empire strikes back (yeah, I know it was stated in a comic, but it was a nice addition here IMHO).

Palpatine died in Return of the Jedi. It was only the Sith Cultist/Tashu/Acolytes who survived (important and related to my “Palpatine and Chosen One in TROS” post, because, even if stretched, if could mantain the prophecy cohesive and true).

Luke starts looking for Exegol the same year Ray is abandoned by her parents, and he keeps searching until Ben destroys the Jedi Temple.

Snoke became a suitable leader for the First Order because of his Force abilities. His race is still unknown, probably unique (maybe because of cloning experiments). It’s still unclear if he was aware of his nature, and what degree of “mental freedom” he had.

General Pryde understood that Snoke himself was only a tool in the hands of a higher power.

Resistance bombers were on another mission during the Starkiller battle. They arrived just in time for D’Qar’s evacuation.

Maz Kanata helped Leia into acquiring Boushh armor.

The singularity that replaced Starkiller Base/Ilum is named “Solo”.

TLJ Resistance flagship is named “Raddus” after the Mon Calamari admiral seen in Rogue One.

Leia was Luke’s first apprentice.

The Prime Jedi on Ach-To cavern represents the duality of the Force.

Snoke told Ben a twisted version of Anakin’s story, to make the boy believe that Darth Vader was his true nature.

One Sith ritual explains that one must sacrifice a loved one unlock new insights of the Dark Side (Ben killing Han).

One things I’ve asked myself was if Ben and Rey were already a Dyad before Snoke bridged their minds. Here it says that yes, they were a Dyad even in Episode VII. Probably Snoke’s actions strenghtened this bond, or accelerated it.

Snoke was created for three reasons: 1) Become a time-limited leader for the First Order and bring chaos in the galaxy. 2) Turn Ben to the Dark Side. 3) Die at the hands of Kylo Ren, to make the boy prove himself as worthy of the Sith traditions (final test for the Dark Side and the Sith Ritual).

Rey and Ben manage to kill the Praetorian Guards because of their Bond.

First Order Walkers’ formation in the Battle of Crait is called “Veers formation”.

Luke learned his Force projection trick in the Jedi sacred texts. The ability is called Similfuturus.

Sith Cultists built the new fleet for decades, thanks to the fact that noone could find Exegol.

Ajan Kloss was charted by Alderaanians scout who were looking for Rebel bases. It is the planet on which Leia was trained by Luke.

Snoke KNEW that Rey and Kylo were a Force Dyad! But considering that Palpatine DIDN’T KNOW that until the end, does this prove that Snoke was not controlled by Palpatine and had some degree of freedom and individuality?

One of the Jedi texts mentions “the Netherworld of Unbeing”, another way of calling the World between Worlds.

Rey has R2 scan the sacred texts for safekeeping.

The opening planet is Mustafar, which is healing itself after the actions shown in Vader:Immortal. The planet has been controlled in the past by the Techno Union and Black Sun.

Luke’s Jedi Compass (found in Battlefront II and seen in TLJ) works in a similar way to Sith Wayfinders.

Sith Wayfinders are a mixture of Force and technology. They can be “used” only by Dark Side users, but they can be linked to a ship’s navigational system.

Moraband/Korriban has been considered as a new base for the Sith. But too many people knew about it, so it was scraped.

The prophecy of the Dyad is very similar to the Rule of Two.

The previous leader of the Knights of Ren was called just “Ren”. The Knights are Force sensitives, but not enough to use the Force.

The Tantive IV was found by a former imperial senator, and given to Leia as a gift.

Leia saw Padmé through the Force (“things you will see, other places. The future, the past, old friends long gone”), that’s why she seems to remember her in Return of the Jedi.

Charlie from Lost helps Rey into reading Jedi texts.

Lando’s daughter “vanished” and was abducted by the First Order (Jannah).

Dengar is alive and on Kijimi.

Sith Fleet personnel are not from the First Order. Their hat insignia show a Sith Eternal crest.
