Damn, V3 sounds promising, especially after I experienced The Rise of Skywalker in 4DX 3D! I’ll PM you for a link whenever possible.

I do like the idea of Luke’s matrix shot being sped up so that’s another vote from me!

I will never stop being impressed by the quality of ideas and work that is put into these edits.
I am a HUGE fan of this edit as well as Hal’s and am looking forward to seeing Sir Ridley’s take on the film.

You guys have inspired me to make my own and in doing so, I desperately need the level of brilliance on threads like this to be shared: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Fixing-The-Last-Jedis-COMEDY-OF-ERRORS/id/72568

I’m looking for new ideas and am seeking a talented voice actor!

V3 looks so promising! I’m definitely excited to give it a watch.

Quick suggestion: would it be worth trying to get rid of Luke’s “See ya 'round, kid” before his force projection disappears? It sets up an awesome additional encounter between Luke and Kylo (maybe a force ghost “haunting”) that they totally don’t follow through on in TROS. It’s an awesome line, but feels weird in the grand scheme of things.

^ I LOVE 'See ya ‘round kid’ and I’d be really sorry to lose it if for no other reason than it gives Luke a bit more of a badass personality (within this movie considering he’s sulking for 90 percent of it)…but I certainly don’t disagree with your point:- that it seemed like it was foreshadowing some sort of payoff to come…that never came (sigh)

I’d personally vote to still keep it in (?) so as not to rob Luke of having that moment and because I guess he needs to ‘sign off’ their encounter somehow and have the last word? but I can totally see your angle here.

As for the “see you around kid” line, I’ve personally took it as a continuation on how Han will always be “haunting him” since his murder. In the same way with Luke since Luke “allowed” Kylo to “kill” luke (Letting him strike him with the lightsaber).

In essence, Luke knows Kylo is still in the “half in the door” of going totally dark, so his choices (Killing his Father Han or SYMBOLICALLY kill Luke) will continue to haunt him.

I don’t think that’s necessary, plus you don’t want Palpatine’s essence to be too obvious. The Palpatine teases are supposed to be subtle, to preserve the reveal that he was behind everything in TROS.

^^^ Agreed with Starkiller.

I just think that Palpatine’s overall role to this trilogy is so significant that he should have a more overt presence especially when Snoke is on screen, I really like NeverarGreate’s idea of layering Palplatines voice under Snokes lines.

I understand why you want Palpatine to be a threat from the beginning of the trilogy, but I don’t think it’s possible, since Palpatine only appears in TROS. It would seem weird to only show the main villain of the trilogy at the beginning of the 3rd movie. And besides, that’s more of the realm of radical edits, and Rekindled isn’t intended to be very radical.

I see where you are coming from but isn’t it even more weird the way the trilogy currently is with him appearing totally out of the blue? At least with him having an active presence throughout the trilogy (mainly TLJ) it would be less of a contrivance and more of an inevitability.

Im with Starkiller on this and definitely support Poppa’s more nuanced approach to hinting at palpatine’s presence.

TLJ has it’s own complete narrative and just isn’t Palpatine’s movie.

Going too hard and throwing in Sith swirls and what not would just be too much. I feel it would

  1. be hugely distracting from that moment in movie, where Rey and Kylo join forces and the possibility of Kylo’s redemption

  2. undo all of Poppa’s efforts to balance the right amount of subtlety in the rest of the additions?

I don’t mean to be disrespectful of other’s ideas, but I can’t see how such a aggressive approach would be effective?

Perhaps, but if you’re gonna have the Palpatine transmition at the end it kinda becomes a palpatine film in retrospect so might as well go all out in the lead up.

That isn’t intended to be obviously Palpatine. The voice is so heavily distorted that it could be anyone. Poppa’s goal with these teases is to have a subtle buildup to the radio scene, which adds an air of mystery to the movie.

Plus to add, even if you can tell or assume its Palpatine … it’s at the very end of the movie … This way TLJ is still “complete” with its own narrative … but we can point a bit more heavily to Palpatine. With that and Hal’s newest version to have some more subtle palpatine stuff in TFA:R, we are subtly building this up for the full reveal in TROS.

That’s fair, I personally think that considering how TROS unapologetically Slaps the audiance with Palpatine at the get go, it warrants a less subtle build up.

As per Starkiller’s opinion:- I think the magic of what Poppa is attempting with these additions is that if you look at it from the perspective of watching TLJ as a first time viewer there are hints and easter eggs that we would have come out of the movie and then questioned, debated, freeze framed, rewatched etc in order to develop theories for the story ahead?

The beauty and fun of it is that when Palpatine’s Return is revealed for TROS, these hints were always there if you were looking/paying attention but it wasn’t ever overtly spelt out.

As fans that’s the stuff we live for…because we like to feel we are cleverer or perhaps just simply care more about these details than general audiences do?

It’s cool to have easter eggs here and there for those with a good eye but narratively speaking it’s not enough to sell the return of “Space Hitler” in the flesh who everyone thought was dead for 40 years, especially when looking at it from the perspective of a middle act in a trilogy which should set up the stakes for the finale.

I’d normally agree, but that approach would have been better served if the Trilogy had been mapped out from the outset, where such things might have had the opportunity to be placed more organically across not only TLJ but also TFA.

I personally think that retroactively placing the burden solely on TLJ to accomodate the diverted narrative demonstrated by the story of TROS and then dumping all that new set up, hard and fast into TLJ where it never existed previously risks it all just coming off as a mess of ideas?

…almost like TROS itself(?)

I think Poppa carefully curating what scenes can accommodate these hints and then just gently massaging them in is definitely a wiser, more effective approach?

And also, Rekindled isn’t supposed to be a major overhaul that radically restructures the trilogy. Poppa first created this edit as a conservative alternative to all the radical TLJ edits out there, and it seems like the same philosophy would apply to how this edit connects to the rest of the trilogy.

Agreed, Pearce! I haven’t read the whole conversation, but I do think the best approach is to lay the seeds of Palpatine’s return in 7 and 8, not to make it overtly obvious, but when he is finally revealed in 9, a hypothetical first time viewer would go, “Ahhhh, it makes sense now.” Rather than, “That was not set up at all…”

Don’t make it overt, but don’t make it feel out of left field. Allow room for mystery, like a good crime novel. Mystery surrounds the crime, but when the truth is revealed, you can think back to all the hints that pointed to the truth.

I appreciate the subtle hints sprinkled throughout this edit and I respect the conservative approach, for now though I think the current hints could be made a tad bit more noticable specifically the blue smoke which I think might go under the radar for some people.
