If Leia is a Jedi then why on Alderaan was she looking for Luke instead of stepping up and becoming the ‘spark of hope’ herself?

This is why Leia being Force-sensitive in general completely undermines The Force Awakens.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

Luke was important because he was a symbol of hope. Yeah, Leia inspired people too, but Luke is the legendary Jedi who saved the galaxy.

Without relying on prophecies etc like the PT did - I wonder if Leia is looking for Luke because she is aware of some shadowy evil at large that only the ‘DYAT OF THE FORCE’ can defeat - so she might assume its her and Luke - but then it turns out to be Ben and Rey? No idea how you’d introduce that.

I always felt it was a missed opportunity in the PT to not have the Jedi speculate that the Chosen One wasn’t someone else (like Dooku or Mace Windu) - then have a twist that it was the overlooked Anakin.

I was honestly disappointed by the very short celebration scene, I really hope someone on here decides to go and extend the celebration via an edit of the film, just felt like it should have been bigger than the Return Of The Jedi celebration sequence since this was the final movie of the entire SAGA, needed more prequel and original trilogy locations, I had one idea for a Coruscant scene. Perhaps someone could edit a final order cruiser ship crashing in the foreground of a few locations, theres a shot in Revenge Of The Sith where the Jedi Temple has a large gust of smoke coming from it, would be cool if someone edited in a final order cruiser crashing in the foreground of the temple.

If “Rey Palpatine” is removed somehow, what is the motivation of Palpatine to have Ochi try to find Rey and kill her parents while doing so?

Simple, he senses Rey’s power in the force/her potential in the dark side, similar to how he sensed Anakin’s potential. You might need to an extra line or two culled from elsewhere to sell this, but imo it’s a much less convoluted explanation.

Fair enough. Why does he stop pursuing her after Ochi fails? In fact, why does he stop to pursue Rey Palpatine in the cinematic cut? Aren’t there other Sith assassins beyond Ochi?

(Sorry for the long post, I hope this is okay, as I think it relates to Fanedit decisions)

I’ve been wondering how much of Rey Palpatine was planned from the start. While I did love the Rey Nobody concept of TLJ, I think a lot of track was laid for Rey Palpatine throughout the trilogy.

In TFA, Rey is kind of a natural with the force, instinctively using the Jedi mind trick on a stormtrooper and fighting back against Kylo’s mind attack. I was never bothered by Rey’s aptitude with the force or her fighting ability, but I did always wonder where she would even get the idea of trying a mind trick on a stormtrooper. If she has a connection to past force users, that starts to make a little more sense to me.

I read somewhere, and I’m sorry I can’t remember where and give credit, that Rey has the typical backstory of a villain: a poor orphan discarded and left for dead by her family, forced to scavenge for survival. The difference, of course, is that Rey has a different spirit. That theme struck with me in TROS; that you are not defined by your blood. It’s still not as open as “anybody can be a powerful force user”, but I do like it.

The Last Jedi lays even more track for this, despite the fakeout of her nobody parents. Rey is quickly attracted and open to the dark side, doesn’t even fight it, which scares Luke. If only he were wise enough to know the larger truth (that Yoda seemed to see) that one’s spirit is more revelatory than their birth. She spends the whole movie torn between the light and dark, conflicted and confused. She seeks guidance from Luke and then Kylo Ren, but neither could really help her because they didn’t truly understand her. How could anyone, given her true identity?

Subtle clues can also be found in the musical score going back to TFA. This is an interview with a composer on Classical Classroom where they analyzed the new score shortly after TFA’s release:

Essentially, there’s a part of Rey’s theme that matches up with the Dies irae of the Requiem Mass. Dies irae means “Day of Wrath”; very ominous to say the least, but makes me think Rey’s journey was plotted a little more carefully than we’d think.

These are the things that resonated with me throughout the trilogy, and while I think it could have been better executed, and though I was a huge fan of Rey Nobody, when the Rey Palpatine reveal happened it made immediate sense to me.

It’s only a small detail but the first time Rey uses the light saber in TFA she makes stabbing strikes from the shoulder, exactly like Palpatine does when we see him use his saber in ROTS. They’re the only two characters we see fight in that distinctive way.

At any rate, I think trying to remove Rey Palpatine is folly as it’s such a central element to the film. I think a fan editor would be better off trying to strengthen the Rey Palpatine link rather than remove it, although I don’t have a clue how!

Whether or not HAL, pappasketti, and others decide to go the Rey Nobody or Rey Palpatine route, it would be such a mistake and waste of time to retcon their excellent and really PERFECT edits of TFA (HAL9000) and TLJ (poppasketti) to try and fit into the new, mediocre TROS story. Rather, the focus should be on making TROS itself more streamlined and coherent. The discovery of Palpatine should have been a real surprise, and now that that surprise is ruined it doesn’t help to make Palp cackle somewhere in TLJ. Just remove his mention from the awful opening crawl from TROS. Perhaps if the whole Rey Palpatine storyline was something JJ/disney added in at the last moment, it is better to just reverse that arguably silly and unimaginative decision in the edit.

After seeing the film again, I believe removing Rey Palpatine would be pretty easy.

You might still want to beef up Kylo’s talking to Rey, and really sell home the vision of her taking the throne (otherwise it might feel like something’s missing), but purely removing that familial link shouldn’t be hard at all.

Is anyone aware of any audio of Palpatine uttering the phrase “kill him” other than in reference to Dooku in ROTS?

The novelization of TFA describes an inner voice of rage saying these words to Rey as she stands victorious over Kylo Ren. Whether it meant this originally or not, one naturally infers Palpatine at this point.

I’d like to at least play with adding that line, but the delivery in ROTS sounds almost casual.

I don’t have a perfect memory, but I don’t recall the Emperor saying that line in TROS.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Okay maybe I’m way off, but I’m prepared to guess as to a deleted scene that exists regarding the resolution of what Finn was going to tell Rey. Basically, Poe seems to be more miffed about it than anyone, and it kind of goes with this idea that they’re not really working together. So I think either right before or after Poe tells Finn he needs him in command with him, there’s a scene that sort of mirrors Han and Leia’s last scene in ROTJ (because how could they resist), where Poe guesses that Finn loves Rey, and he clarifies no, they just both have the force. At least, that’s what I’m guessing/hoping.

DominicCobb, that makes sense to me. I assumed, especially when Poe said something like “you mean when Poe’s not around?”, that they were setting up a love triangle. When Rey and Poe met at the end of TLJ there seemed like there might have been a mutual attraction, or at least leaving that as a possibility.

One thing that was nice about TROS was having our three main characters (and Ren at times) together for such a long stretch. It’s something the first two films lacked, I think.

The link below which can be used to generate voices based on real people could be interesting depending on how many samples exist of the Emperor speaking (or rather yelling).

I’m going to come back to this post and fill in the blanks with more detail, but…

I really think a lot of this movie should have happened in The Last Jedi.

Wondering if it’s possible to combine the two movies or use some of that film to better flesh out this one. It moves so fast.

Regarding poppa’s post about Rey Palpatine:

Honestly, I do think for fan edits that keep that there are some things you could maybe build off of for fan edits. But regarding to the production of these films, I think any connection Rey might have to Palpatine in previous films is purely coincidental. I think JJ set up the mystery box of Rey well in TFA, and if they had gone with Rey Skywalker or Rey Kenobi it would seem as equally as valid.

I believe Rey Palpatine was a decision made in reshoots. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I think.

Here’s how I’m planning to handle the “they were nobody” moment in TLJ. It’s only Kylo that explicitly states anything about it, and he doesn’t say that they are buried on Jakku.

It works…but it also breaks my heart to see this (imo) powerful scene diminished to accommodate a poorly conceived retcon. I think that Rey looking inward and admitting to herself that her parents were nobodies is part of what makes the scene work. Just my opinion of course, but if you choose to go down this path I will probably stick to earlier versions of Legendary or make my own edit.

I know, I really do. Ugh.

I guess it could stay and just omit the line about their graves.

OK, when I watched a trailer for TROS, before I went to see it, I was practically dancing when I saw a scene where Vader is talking to Kylo and calls him Ben before a brief glimpse of what looked like Kylo striking Vader down. I was co fused when the movie ended and that moment wasn’t in it. If this becomes available on BluRay as a deleted scene I would love it to be integrated into the movie or even filmed by fans like sc38 was so it can be added. Also some Deepfake work on young Leia to stop it looking so janky. Luke looked great which struck me as odd. Anybody else see the Vader moment in the trailers?
