Would you like the prequels to have done this with the Jedi and Sith?

In the prequels, the Jedi exist in the open and think that the Sith are extinct.

My idea is that instead, the public would be unaware of the existence of either, but the Jedi and Sith would be aware of each other’s existence, but wouldn’t know each other’s identities beyond aliases. The aliases used by Sith wouldn’t include “Darth” and there wouldn’t be a “Rule of Two”.

I think the Sith should be in hiding after their prior defeat, but the Jedi should be guardians of the Old Republic like knights, samurai or whatever medieval analogue works best. A religious order but not a governing body of any kind, servants and not military leaders. That way the lords/kings/caesars can filter into an appropriate rise of an Empire plot structure, and any slavery or gladiator parallels would actually be appropriate.

What I would’ve done:

The Jedi would’ve been a small religious order, their numbers somewhere between 100,000 & 1,000,000. They would’ve served as diplomats, advisors, and during the Clone Wars, as tacticians (they wouldn’t have fought on the battle field; that’s stupid). The general public would’ve had very little knowledge of the Jedi, and even less exposure to them.

The Sith would’ve either been extinct or on the verge of extinction on an isolated backwater planet. Anakin would’ve been inducted into the Sith religion by the Sith spirits on Korriban. Palpatine wouldn’t have been a Sith at all, but an independent dark side sorcerer.

Yeah, the Jedi should have been a smaller, less known group of good-doers for sure.

My idea is that the PT shoulda’ taken place decades before the time it’s set in, giving MUCH more time for history to be altered, forgotten & erased. Obi-Wan, Yoda, Vader & Palpatine are much older than they seem, staying healthy via the Force (Yoda & Obi obviously are doing it the right way, while Vader & Palps end up looking unnatural.) The Skywalker twins are created long after anikins fall, but before his chop up. The Empire itself would be much older than what the PT sets up.
smoking & rambling. sorry.

I feel like them having a temple on the Galactic Capital planet and them fighting in public battles doesn’t fit with the what the Original Trilogy tells us (that people don’t know who they are and don’t believe in The Force). I’d prefer that when they interact with the public in the prequels, they use aliases and that the public doesn’t know that they’re Jedi and isn’t aware of their powers.

Anakin would’ve been inducted into the Sith religion by the Sith spirits on Korriban. Palpatine wouldn’t have been a Sith at all, but an independent dark side sorcerer.

Empire’s End implies this. Palpatine is the one who turned Anakin to the Dark Side, but he could still have gone through the trials and got knighted on Korriban like Exar Kun.

I like this idea myself. Potential problem with it is that that’s a lot of ground to cover in a single trilogy. And I imagine Mother Skywalker would be much younger than Anakin? And they would’ve met decades after the Jedi Purge? That could be problematic, too, if it renders her a bit character.

The trilogy wouldn’t have to cover that much ground. It sets up the Empire & the Obi-Yoda-Ani-Palp relationships.

Yep.

Yep.

We wouldn’t meet her. Or see the twins. Or Vader.
It all starts to come together at the end of Empire.
I could see people wanting to know who the mother is, but it really doesn’t matter to me. Plenty of room for other important female roles both old & new.

The original trilogy implies that:

  • the public doesn’t know that Anakin was a Jedi
  • the public doesn’t know that Yoda existed

Both would be feasible if the Clone Wars were being conducted by public figures other than Yoda who hops around planets directing battles personally from a gunship, which is becoming dumber the more I type this… but different characters know about the mysterious religion in SW to some degree.

I also wish the Jedi and Sith wore armor resembling Vader’s throughout the prequels.

As always your ideas make way too much sense to ever see fruition. I disagree with the Jedi never fighting. Knights have steeds; which would be starfighters in a Space Opera setting.
