Hello everyone, I’m RizDub! I was first introduced to fanedits by way of Adywan’s ANH:Revisited. I have a few disconnected ideas for small edits floating around my head, which I may or may not wind up acting on…

Anyway, I’m excited to be here!

From what I understand, there’s little deviation of the Prequels that you can officially purchase from the theatrical release. I’m not aware of the newer sequels having substantial changes, if any. Any particular reason you’re seeking these out?

1999 theatrical Phantom Menace is significantly different from the DVD and Blu-Ray versions. Especially Blu-Ray, which is significantly different from the DVD version.

Theatrical TPM has never been released on home video on anything fancier than VHS and Laserdisc, and the DVD version isn’t available officially on anything better than…well, DVD (though Schorman has preserved it in 1080p from HDTV broadcasts).

Interesting to know, thanks Ash!

As one major, easily identifiable example, the Yoda puppet used throughout the theatrical and kept on the DVD has been completely replaced with CGI (using the ROTS model) for the Blu-Ray.

Mainly searching for the theatrical releases in the highest possible quality available, as I want to see those as was intended for the audience. Instead of having to put up with all the nonsensical extra stuff that George put in there

Hi, all of you! I’ve been a fan of the forum for a while but was too cowardly to join until now, but the stuff you’ve been doing for historical archiving and preservation is fantastic, and as such, must be given much consideration and appreciation. So well done on your work on editing and all the new work you do on this forum.

Hello I joined original trilogy.com to join the discord server, as well as looking for ralph mcquarrie art covers for blu ray cases of harmy’s despslized editions. It would be cool if anyone can help me. Thanks and may the force be with you!

Hello, my Name is Stefan and I am here because of my dedication to the original trilogy - like everyone else here, too.
I grew up with the originals on Betamax and VHS, then later LD,DVD and Bluray. Shame on me not to conserve the originals when I had the chance to LD times. Thought they would come on DVD and sold my LD. The years that came only showed how far an ill minded Person (you all know who I mean)could go to destroy what we all love.
I still hope - knowing that there is not that much of a chance - that with 4K release there will be the option for unaltered versions in 4K - they exist (look at Rogue One) but I doubt that they will bring them to us. There is still a L
little hope, because money rules the world and fans would pay the price - me for granted.
But for the time being I hope to find harmys versions of the movies - but after some search and responses it seems like a sisyphus task to me. With my own family now, there is not that much time to spend crawling the web.
Perhaps a fan who was lost once, like I am now, gives me a hint, where to search.
Kind regards

Hello all!

I’m an aspiring filmmaker and editor currently in film school. I decided to join this group because I love the despecialized edition of the original trilogy and have been a big fan for years now.

Recently, I decided to take on the project of my first full fan edit of a film. I’ve made a few fan edit trailers over the past year, but I finally had an idea for a full fan edit. I grew up a huge fan of Stephen King and the King miniseries from the '90’s, my favorite of which was always It. When the remake came out a few years ago, I was thrilled, and I absolutely loved it. Then earlier this year, Chapter Two was released, and I was less thrilled. I walked out of the theater telling myself that I’d be making a fan edit the cut the two films together to revert the narrative structure back to the novel, where it flashes back and forth between kids and adults throughout.

I recently completed, what I believe will be (but probably will not be) my final cut of this project. I’ve shared with a few friends but as of now, I’ve been the only person to sit through the massive 4.5 Hour runtime. Though, yesterday I did export two new files that split it up into a more manageable 2.5hr and 2hr15min films. Because I’m new here, I did not want my first post to be in the fan edit page, instead I thought I’d start here. I have the 4.5 hour version currently uploaded to my google drive and I’d love to share with whoever is interested. I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to post the link in my post or not, so if someone could let me know the best way to share, that would be great!

Thanks all! Looking forward to joining this group!

Best,
Brandon

Hi Brandon!

Don’t post links openly in the forum, it’s against the rules.

The best way to share is to create a new thread in the proper subforum for your edit, share some info about it and a cutlist (not really required, but customary), and ask people to send you a private message to ask for the link. Sending links through private messages is fine.

To send a PM, click on the username to go to the user’s landing page. Once there, click on the link that says “Start a Private Topic.”

To read your PMs, on the top right of the screen there’s a little “speech bubble” - click on that to open your inbox. When you have new PMs, the “speech bubble” will be solid; when you have no new PMs, it will be an outline.

Welcome to the forums!

Hello there!

I think I’ve lurked here for long enough (far too long in fact), though I imagine that I won’t be posting on here too often. I found my way here because of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions, around the time I actually became a Star Wars fan, and became more invested in film preservation. I’m still left in awe observing the amount of work that has gone in both the preservation and fan editing work done here. To everyone who has taken part in those projects, thank you, and keep up the good work! As a new member, I’ll continue to look forward to whatever projects pop up around here, and hopefully contribute to the community in some meaningful way from time to time.

With best regards,
Gene

Hello,
Finally made an account here. Hope to make some time to watch Harmy’s Despecialized Edition in the near future.

Hello, I’m new here. I just found out about the project and I’m very happy that such a place like this exists. I’ve owned SW in one format or the other since the days of VHS, but it wasn’t until I saw a video on YouTube discussing the Despecialized project that I realised I’ve never seen this film in its original form!

I love the original trilogy, kinda enjoy the prequels, think the 3D animated Clone Wars show was great, played the Force Unleashed waaaaay too much, want to try the new Jedi Fallen Order game as it looks fun, and have enjoyed what I’ve seen of the Mandalorian so far.

Cheers!

Why thank you (I used a SW name generator back in the day for this fan comic that never went anywhere)

I saw that it is part of the big Christmas sale on Steam right now. I’m going to pick it up (and maybe the sequel even though I’ve heard mixed reviews for that one). It’ll tide me over till Fallen Order comes down in price.

Hi everyone, just wanted to say that I’m happy to have this place.
I happened to stumble upon it through a YouTube video showing the hard work of having the most accurate representation of the originals. I became a fan by watching the prequels and loved the series even more after watching the originals. It’s just amazing that there’s a group of people out there that loves this series so much that they work hard on these edits.

Hi friends! I grew up on Star Trek reruns in the 70s & was 10 years old when the first Star Wars movie (to me, “A New Hope” will always be the first movie) was released. My parents bundled their 5 kids into pj’s and took us to the drive-in theater to see it. I was immediately hooked! Fast forward to about 1999 when my first son was 2 years old… My husband & I didn’t have cable TV but we had VHS tapes of the original trilogy so my son and I would watch them over & over again! Had I known they would become rare versions I would have kept them in better condition!

Last weekend, in anticipation of the new movie, I decided to watch the original star wars on Amazon prime but I had to turn it off after about 20 minutes. I couldn’t bear to watch it. Thus began my search for an original copy. I had no idea the amount of work it took to go back to the original! I didn’t know that Lucas had done his best to erase all evidence of the original films (what a shame!) but I’m very happy to have found this site.

I’m not very computer savvy so I hope I can figure out how to download the despecialized version. Thank you for making it available to everyone!
