I think Poita’s prints have that beat all the way to hell and back. It just takes time to turn the prints into ones and zeroes, and so we wait.

When I jump to a later point the movie on MPC-HC (via. K-Lite Codec Pack), there is no video.
I finished the download and the film plays normally if I played it on VLC.

I don’t know if this problem is in SW DE 2.7 or ROTJ DE 2.5 since I got 4K77 and 4K83.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

I’ve gotten “Extraction error” on both the MKV and AVCHD versions of ESB. I downloaded them on JDownloader and even tried extracting using a different RAR expander. Still nothing. All files are the same size except the last one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Same here. Just downloaded the MKV version. Won’t extract with WinRAR. I get the error message.
“archive is unknown format or damaged”
I found solution:
Download 7z1900-x64.exe
https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Install
Right click on first RAR file
Select 7-Zip
Extract
Enter password
Enjoy

Can you guys check the sfv files?
Using software such as quicksfv or cksfv.
It should tell you which rar files are missing/incomplete/corrupt.

Ran CRC with Total Commander.
0 Errors.
And 7-Zip was able to extract it without problem, so files are ok.
WinRAR is the problem.

Just realized during his recent video that if Harmy had a large, curled mustache, he’d look exactly like one of the two barbers I work with.
It’s uncanny.

I just downloaded the ESB MKV, checked it with the sfv file, and extracted it 100% with WinRAR with no problems or errors.
So not sure why. Maybe a newer version of WinRAR is needed for some reason? I just downloaded the newest 64bit version from their website for this test.

Likewise, I successfully tested extraction using WinRAR x64 (64 bit) 5.71 on MKV and AVCHD releases of SW and ESB with no issue. Without more information, I can only assume the extraction errors some people have encountered is a local issue (installed software version, hardware limits) rather than something systematically wrong with the files. If anyone else is having persistent difficulty with extraction, please send me a PM so I can get a better understanding of the problem.

Hello! First post on this forum, so I’d like to start by thanking Harmy for all the work to restore the OT, and thanks to all the communtiy of fans who provides sources, support and work to improve it even further 😃

So, I was planning a rewatch next week and I’ve seen some links to a 2.5 version of ESB… it’s bogus, right? Just wanted to make sure.

Yeah, there’s no ESB 2.5 as far as I’m aware.

There were plans for a supposed 2.5 at one point a couple years ago. Then if I remember correctly when other new sources came along with 4k80 on the horizon, it was decided just to skip 2.5 all together and just go the way to 3.0 which has no eta . Only being told it’ll take a couple years.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

He said on YouTube with the release of the new 4K HDR on Disney+ he’d be redoing a lot so it’ll probably take quite some time. Like you said, I’d imagine it will be measured in years. For now we can just enjoy what we have!

I hope the Despecialized v3.0 Trilogy would be in actual 4K and not just sourced from 4K masters.
HDR would be a real boon too, and would be an edge over 4K77/4K80/4K83.
It would be a complete revelation for someone who wants a painstakingly restored version of the Original Trilogy sourced from the original negatives without CGI and Maclunky.

I would prefer the 4K 35mm Trilogy over Despecialized 4K since I think it’s more authentic and it looks kinda clean in the DNR versions but a version of the OUT with the extra clarity and redone transitions of the Special Editions is a game-changer, it would definitely be the cleanest way to watch the OUT and could be the best way for some.

When this happens, the only thing that the official 4K releases have over Despecialized/4K 35mm would be the Dolby Atmos track, since I don’t know how you can do a remix of the OUT using a mixture of the theatrical/1993 LaserDisc mixes and maybe the 1997 DTS mix or even the recent Atmos mix. And even then, you can just turn on Dolby Surround Upmixer or DTS Neural:X on either the stereo or the 5.1 mixes and it will still sound fairly decent.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

Hard to say–while the new official 4K sources seem very good, they still ultimately need to blend with the 4K77/80/83 sources used for despecialization as well. Since IMO the 4Kxx releases still only resolve less than 720p of image detail, it would be hard to blend with the new 4K sources at greater than 1080p resolution without making the seams show between the two sources. Not that it’s not worth trying – there’s lots of tricks you can do with sharpening and fake grain that may help it blend.

As for the “edge over 4Kxx”, have you compared ROTJ:DE at 720p to 4K83 at 4K? While 4K83 is certainly amazing and looks great, ROTJ:DE already has the clear advantage in fine image detail (and IMO also in color, at least until DrDre is done with his 4K83 regrade). The advantage of negative/IP scans over projection print scans is already apparent right now at a lowly 720p, but could become moreso using the new 4KSE release – and that advantage could present a problem to despecialization efforts.

As for the Atmos track, the original films only ever had six audio channels at the most, and IMO preservations will only have six channels at the most too. Otherwise you’re just adding SE audio elements back in.

From Harmy’s ‘Star Wars Despecialized’ thread, and thought it worth a bump post in here too 😃

Hello, guys. So, as I said before, I’m getting this month off from work and I’m planning to work on Despecialized.
Now, the reason I’m writing this post is to ask you guys for donations. I hate to do this but as I’m a freelancer, being out of work means I’m not gonna be getting any income and right now, the VFX industry is kind of f*cked, because all filming has stopped due to COVID, so I’m not even sure there will be much payed work for me in the future. Luckily, if it comes to that, I can survive on savings for a while but I will have to cut any extra expenses, so I could really use some help with the software and hardware expenses for Despecialized.
Any donations to harmypaypal@email.cz are welcome and, of course, any donors will get their names in the credits.

Just to be upfront about this, I can’t actually promise any delivery date on Despecialized - I’m starting over with an all new set of sources and right now, I’m still trying to figure out how to properly work with the HDR sources and it’s a bit frustrating. But I’m talking to some guys about possible collaborations, including oohteedee and DrDre, so hopefully, we’ll figure it out together.
