STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 447

If it was completed first then perhaps it wasn’t great (the Spaceballs shot) and the FX guys took another try at it (the SW shot)? Or perhaps the Spaceballs footage being from SW is urban myth I don’t know either way, but I remember a mock up earlier in the thread that showed quite a similar suggestion to filling the blackness around the circular pod tube with greeblies - which the Spaceballs shot does do in fairness so maybe it’s useful?

I suspect this is probably well known, but something I just read today that the escape pod shot used several times in Spaceballs is actually unused footage shot for Star Wars.

I know there was a bit of talk about the escape pod shot earlier in the thread so thought perhaps this might be worth sharing.

I’ve never heard this before and I’m not sure I believe it. The escape pod shot in ANH is well-known as being the first shot completed, and nothing about the Spaceballs design resembles anything else in Star Wars.

I thought the first completed shot was a Death Star turret firing? Your point stands regardless, of course.

Google says the escape pod was the first shot Lucas actually approved, the rest weren’t good enough. Close enough.

JEDIT: There’s also this warped pylon that might need fixing:

Thanks! That was one of the two things I always meant to get around to mentioning here at some point. There’s a bit of warping in other parts of the set walls too, but that close-up section was the main one that was always distracting.

The other thing I always meant to bring up was this adywan - just before and after he plays Leia’s message in Obi-wan’s hut, there’s two close-ups of Artoo’s ‘holographic projector’ looking as if it has ‘tracing paper’ fitted, rather than glass…

They are both static shots, so I wonder if it’s something you can tweak a bit to look slightly more ‘glass’-like as seen in other shots like these examples? Just a little something I forgot to mention here ages ago, and no biggie at the end of the day, if not -

Perhaps the Spaceballs shot was intended as an external view ?
All that stuff around the tube does look like a ship’s exterior.

If we consider it as an external view and place the Star Wars capsule there, we get:

Anyway, it’s not a nice model and we gain nothing by seeing it.

Ady, hate to be a nuisance (and I know this suggestion might be a bit of a tall order), but I think it would be a welcome change to improving the editing continuity of the Yavin IV scenes.

In this shot, I think it could be beneficial to add the Falcon to the left side of the screen, behind the foliage. Not only would this be a nice visual link to Rogue One with the ships on the tarmac, but also a better connection to the previous shot of the Falcon landing (even as a kid, I was always confused where the Falcon landed). Additionally, this would be a comparatively easy change since it’s a static shot and could feasibly be accomplished with a still image. Just some food for thought. Keep up the good work!

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

I would love to see something done to the hangar interiors, personally it’s a little obvious how small the stage was and they lit it to hide that fact.

As much as the movie looks outdated in comparsion to the newer films… this video would stick out like a sore thumb in comparsion to the rest of the film. It’s great as a standalone project made for fun, but not if you put it into the film itself. Of course, you’d have to change every frame to look like a 2010s film if you want this video in. That’s why people don’t include the Obi-Wan vs. Vader remake in their edits.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

I was just sharing. I didn’t expect it to be put in Revisited. I like the original approach to the Death Star better than that anyway. But I still appreciate and enjoy seeing effort.

That vid actually makes me think of something that would’ve been in Petrovelly’s Star Wars Remastered project.

The shot of the X-wings approaching the Death Star before everyone checks in is easily the worst SE update to the sequence. The extended shot of the ship models gliding across the screen looks less convincing than other, more dynamic shots elsewhere, and the R2 units look incorrect.
I wonder if it’d be feasible or desirable to create two more subtle shots using CG to approximate the two in the original version.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I like how the two shots became one in the SE, but I do agree that re-doing the bit to look more dynamic would be better. Also, one could suggest adding in different paint marks on the X-Wings, to better emulate the models. That way, Red 5’s nose stripes won’t change as much (and Ady will fix the wing stripes like he did the SD edition).

Did you see the username of the video’s uploader?

Lol. No wonder it looked familiar. 😅

But I do agree that even just replicating the original shots with new CG shots with X-Wing models with unique markings would be a great update for the film.

Way I’m thinking right now is maybe the shot could begin with the X-Wings approaching as we see them from the front, and then Red Leader begins conducting his roll call. Once all have responded could we follow up with the squadron as we see the second original shot from behind. How could that work without affecting the soundtrack?!

@adywan They have added another change for the film on Disney+, in which Greedo says something to Han (likely an insult) before they shoot. Do you plan on including this change?

It’s not bad. The problem with Greedo shooting first before Han does is that it messes up with his transition from anti-hero to hero. And now, they’ve improved that scene, because now it appears that Greedo is (likely) insulting Han, giving Han more of a motivation to shoot him.

This is a joke, right? This has to be a joke. My brain can’t comprehend it otherwise.

Nah, man. That’s not the problem.
Han wasn’t shooting in cold blood, as Lucas loves to say. Greedo was about to kill him. There’s nothing wrong with saving your own life from a guy who just said he was gonna take your ship “over your dead body” and that he’s been looking forward to doing so “for a long time”.
The problem is that Lucas doesn’t seem to understand what’s happening in his own movie.
