The new Snoke clip is good Nev! I love the way you handled him standing up. I do think it’d be good if something could be done to “the light” line to make it match the way the rest of the dialogue sounds more. It isn’t a big deal, just stands out a little to me still.

EDIT: Also, I certainly don’t think this should be a priority for you at all, but if you start getting to the point where you think you might be able to release a version of this before TROS comes out, it might be worth looking into having a simple edition of TLJ that would fit with the way TFA: Starlight ends. Basically it could just be the same film with an alternate first scene with Rey. Or a preexisting TLJ edit that you like with that alternate first Rey scene inserted. Just suggesting this because it might be a good idea for people who might want to watch TFA:Starlight and a TLJ edit before seeing IX.

That would be awesome! My ideal TLJ edit would again use your edit as the base Hal, so making an alternate version of that with Rey trekking up to the island summit and finding Luke gone would be perfect! I imagine her trek being a shortened version of the TFA scene using the shots discarded from my edit along with some rendition of the Jedi Steps, and she would get up there and look confused as the music fades away.

Hell, I could throw that together for you if it’d help. I’ve already got it all ripped and laying around at the moment.

Hell, if you do this I’d definitely download it so I can chop that part out and plop it into Poppasketti’s! 😉 Assuming he doesn’t want to do that himself, that is. (I’d absolutely share that with others, too - if he’s okay with it, of course.)

Perhaps I missed something, but what do you mean by finding Luke gone? I assumed TLJ would show Rey arriving at the island and blend into Luke receiving the saber.
I suppose if that’s all I can do it would serve the purpose of temporary compatibility for a pre-IX viewing.
I might be able to try something with this today.

It was a few pages back in the thread that I talked about the TLJ scene, and how to better reconcile the image of exiled Jedi Luke from the end of TFA with depressed hobo Luke from TLJ.

The concept is that Rey’s ‘vision’ of Luke as the mysterious savior in his Jedi robes standing at the edge of the cliff is little more than a dream on her part, so when she actually arrives on the island expecting to find Luke there, he’s gone. She then goes looking for him, finding him hiding in his hut in his hobo robes, having never worn his Jedi duds at all.

It’s definitely more involved than a simple splice or two, though the scene would technically work if it was just the end of TFA spliced onto the scene from TLJ.

I think it works.

I do still really like the theatrical transition from Finn to the island though. Maybe it’s enough to go from the original wide shot of the island to the small figure of Rey already climbing the steps.

It’s also a shame to lose the overhead shots of Rey approaching Luke. An ideal version for me would be to have Rey bypass the huts on first approach, then paint Luke out of those aerial shots and have Rey approach the spot where she saw him in the vision, then look slightly confused and walk down to the huts. That’s probably too involved though and I’m not even sure if it would work.

Sort of what I’ve been picturing:

Finn: Where’s Rey?

Cut to same island shot. Then cut to Rey entering frame, looking back Chewie, R2 and the Falcon. An abridged approach to the cliff, trying to avoid repeating shots. Use the same music as Rey’s first scene in TLJ, Rey reaches the top and it cuts to the empty cliff side on the swell of music (originally the musical point where Luke tosses the saber). She then goes back down to the village. Luke shuts the door before she can see him. She knocks, stands there, looks around. Looks toward the ocean and cut to the insert of the X-Wing submerged in the water.

When you cut to Luke in the hut, you also can cut the shot of him folding his ceremonial robes.

I really like this. Yes, it would require painting Luke out of the scene altogether, but I don’t think it would actually be terribly difficult, particularly for the wide shots.

An update on the crawl:

This uses the custom font (I still need to find a more authentic font for the title) and applies a rather aggressive method for disintegrating the letterforms as they march into the distance. Probably too aggressive.

I’m not 100% happy with the text as per usual (too wordy, etc), but one thing I do like is having IMPERIAL FIRST ORDER take up an entire line, something which hasn’t yet been done in an official crawl.

Speaking of re-editing TLJ, there is an edit in which Luke uses his Return of the Jedi lightsaber on Crait. Do you plan on using it for your upcoming TLJ edit? (Yeah, I know that Luke using his father’s saber is meant to be symbolism, but the “Luke isn’t really there” reveal was a bit easy to predict, especially due to the younger flashback appearance and his father’s saber that was split an hour ago. So, having Luke use his green saber would make the reveal more surprising)

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

I’m really digging the new crawl! So, would some/all the senators think Leia is insane because they want to prevent a full-on civil war, not start one like Leia wants them to?

Searching for more dialogue in the Lego TFA game files, I came across more Poe lines specifically about why they get drawn so far away from the Oscillator. Here’s the new scene as it stands, with the flipped shot of the X-wing flying away instead of being shot down. I could probably adjust Poe’s mouth to better fit the lines, but it might be fine based on how brief the cutaway is:

I’ve been thinking about moving Snoke’s ‘Awakening’ dialogue (thanks RL!) and I have an idea for it that may greatly improve more than just the logic of that theme. Not to be cryptic about the idea, but I think it will be better just to show you. Unfortunately implementation will take a bit of work so I’m just going to let this idea sit here for now like a JJ mystery box. 😃

Hi,

Just wondering would you consider doing a “purist” edit as well by keeping the origional ending in place with Rey handing the light saber to Luke but keeping all your other edits in place? This would allow us to watch other TLJ edits and watching your TFA edit together.

I may have to go back into the Restructured workfile to rework the music, since the timing could be better.

As for the ‘training’ line, I don’t miss it, especially since TLJ all but discarded that plot point.
