I feel like if you did that you’d need to show it becoming blue afterwards? like you’d need to shoot a new scene for that to work i think.

Should Anakin’s lightsaber be red during the duel on Mustafar?

If this is coming from the new canon explanation for red lightsabers (“bleeding” activated blue/green/purple/whatever crystals), that’s not something that just “happens” when you’re using the Dark Side. It’s a specific ritual that a Sith does to bind someone else’s crystal to them. Anakin hasn’t done this ritual to his lightsaber’s crystal (and probably wouldn’t even need to, since the crystal is already bound to him), so it would stay blue unless he took the time to sit and force the crystal to bleed.

Also, this is (I think) the official explanation for Kylo’s unstable blade - he did a shitty job of “bleeding” the crystal, and it cracked, which also meant he had to switch to an older design of hilt with side vents (the “crossguard”).

Gotta love how emo the franchise has become.

I think Battle of the Heroes is best used as music for the credits, never heard during the film.

I posted this here a while back, but I am hoping to get back to this edit now I have the time. I love feedback on what people think of the restructuring of the duel. I’ve attempted to keep it in line with the physics of the OT.

my one criticism is that maybe it moves just too fast by the end, Obi getting to the hill works just great, but if Anakin can still reach a platform would feel more spacially seamless like Obi’s jump, plus I think for some they really might want to preserve that last bit of dialogue between the two, even if it’s trimmed further from that point somewhere in the middle. Just my take!

I don’t get why you’d cut the robot platforms. That’s one of the best parts.

For real? I thought it was by far the worst part of the duel…

Exactly. Big parts of the prequels feel video game-y, but that and the droid factory sequence from AOTC are literally just video game platforming put on film and it’s just bad.

I cut the platforms because Anakin’s jump looks ludicrous and the design of the droid he lands on is terrible. It also looks plain bad. I would say it’s as bad Mutt fencing between two jeeps in the CGI jungle in KOTCS.

I’m thinking of re-cutting the scene of Obi-Wan and Padme talking on the balcony, ending it early so that it appears the Padme agrees to take Obi-Wan to Anakin. Perhaps ending it on the line, “From himself.” And having Padme bow her head. Then cutting to her cruiser rising from the platform. (I will definitely miss Obi-Wan’s line, “I’m so sorry, but overall I think it strengthens the friendship between Obi-Wan and Padme, and maintains the “Obi-Wan once thought as you do” of it all.”)

Thoughts?

I feel that the Jedi should have put up much more resistance to Order 66, thus letting Vader “hunt down and destroy the Jedi” as opposed to them being killed in one fell swoop.

One radical I’ve had is to change Anakin slaughtering the Separatists leaders on Mustafar to a few Jedi that have regrouped there. So we actually see Vader “hunt down and destroy Jedi” on screen. You would need to film new actors in costume though and film them in front of a green screen, which would take a budget and a bit of work.

I’d have preferred if he were sent to execute the Separatist leaders, get all Sith-eyed, then begin slaughtering Jedi. But, the structure of the film would make such a change unfeasible.

My stance on revising fan edits.

That wouldn’t be bad either! But yeah, it would be hard to do both with the structure as-is. That is partially why I had the idea of just replacing it.

The thing is, you could cut out the Separatist leaders leaving Utupau, we can see Grievous talking to them, then Kenobi jumps down. Presumably the Republic fleet is already there since the clones repel down just a few moments later, so it would’ve been unlikely for them to escape anyway. Their story could end there.

And I think it would fit better if Mustafar was Anakin’s first “hunt” (not counting the massacre of the Jedi temple), because that sequence is intercut between Obi-Wan and Yoda witnessing the aftermath of the temple slaughter, Obi-Wan asking “who could’ve done this?” and hard cutting to Anakin killing more Jedi. It also intercuts with Palpatine elaborating on the Jedi’s “betrayal” and how the remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated. So we would literally be showing Anakin doing just that as Sidious talks about it.

Also, I personally think it would be more visually interesting. Slaughtering the Separatist leaders isn’t a challenge at all for Anakin, but taking on a group of Jedi, like 5 to 1, would probably be more entertaining to watch.

To do it, this would be what you would need:

  1. Some kind of CG model of the control room to use for the background.
  2. Maybe about 5-6 actors to play Jedi and a hooded Anakin. Either local actors and buy costumes, or maybe contact cosplayers and cover their travel to film the shots.
  3. About 10~ shots of: Anakin entering the room, the Jedi grouped together acknowledging Anakin, and various quick fighting/killing shots.

My local university has a nice green screen in their studio, which we could use as an option to film these shots. It would take some effort but I think it is comparable to some things Ady’s doing, so not impossible.
