“Younglings”
I always forget about this, then I’ll see a clip or a quote and, man, that’s just SO bad.
Hilariously stupid.

That heartwarming scene with Yoda training them in AOTC was ruined for me by knowing that they all have to be dead by the third film, which probably wasn’t what Lucas was aiming for. I call them Deadlings as a result.

The Mandalorian starting in November and The Rise of Skywalker a month later in December will make this one of my favorite holiday seasons ever.

Does anyone know where/when this painting of a spaceship that’s suspiciously similar to a Star Destroyer is from?

I found out that it’s by Alfred Kelsner, but I can’t tell when its from or what it was used for. It’d be interesting to know if it actually predates SW, or if it simply copied the design after the movies.

This picture reminds me of old sci-fi books use to read when a child. great pic.

Went to my first Comic Con in decades. I hadn’t been since back when they were just a bunch of collectors/dealers with all their stuff on folding tables. That was long before they became these mega cosplay affairs with stars and autograph sessions.

I went specifically to find a certain Hot Wheels I was struggling to locate. I found it. That said, I could have spent a fortune on just 1966 Batman items. Things from 2 dollars (hot wheels) to 2000 dollars (beautifully framed collection of autographs). Add in Star Wars77, Doctor Who, Jaws, and Ghostbusters and it was even more tempting. T-shirts, patches, pins, mugs, you name it, it was there.

I also saw Howard Chaykin. He wasn’t charging for his autograph or making people hurry. He was just sitting at a table and talking shop with anyone who wanted to meet him. If I had thought about it ahead of time, I would have brought one of his 1970s Star Wars Marvel comic books. I’ll be better prepared next time.

Here was the street sign for the road on one side of the convention center. Seemed fitting.
The driver of the vehicle next to me was also taking a picture of the sign.

^ I would re think taking Howard Chaykin copies of Star Wars to sign , I have seen recent interviews with him and he has not been very happy for being only known in fan circles for that over his original works . He has also said that it was not his best work by a long shot and had he known how big the movie was going to be, he would have done a better job .He even went so far as too say he was embarrassed by it .He was pretty pissed and salty about it on a video interview on youtube …around the 44 minute mark…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-cvoqg9wzg

I see his point to a degree, but I think he’s missing something in his analysis. Some artists are actually more enjoyable (subjectively speaking) when they’re under the whip. For example I love John Buscema’s stuff even though it has become evident that a lot of the material was just being churned out to make rent. It doesn’t matter because even half-hearted Buscema is great Buscema. Similarly I actually prefer Frank Miller’s standard Daredevil stuff over his more personal and stylised material. I just happen to love those comics, and the fact that Frank was working mostly to the formula - but in his own special way - makes for great Daredevil.

So with Chaykin I think Star Wars has a great feel - particularly that first issue (for me) - even if he was just banging the pages out nonchalantly. It’s wrong of him imply the folks who enjoy it are idiots. I’m sure he would’ve personally appreciated music or art or some other media that just so happened to have been loathed by its creator. Hell, Lucas doesn’t even like the first film, but I’m darned if I’m gonna let that spoil how I feel about it!

Interesting. Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t go talk to him. Like they say, never meet your heroes.

Since Star Wars is supposed to have saved Marvel financially, and boosted the industry in general, didn’t it make the other comics he worked after it possible?

Maybe in a perfect world you get to choose what people remember you for, but not in this one. One should be grateful people want you to sign stuff at all.
Stephen King keeps ragging on Kubrick for The Shining, but he has signed items related to the movie, not just his novel, and gave his blessing to the movie adaptation of his sequel Dr. Sleep tying into the Kubrick film. I don’t think he has ever knocked the fans of the film.

Star Wars may not be Chaykin’s finest work, but it meant a heck of a lot to a generation of kids back in the 70’s.

^ agreed . And he was hand picked by Lucas for his work on Cody Starbuck prior to doing Star Wars, but from what I have read , he phoned it in and was behind schedule . The difference is evident between the first issue and the rest . The inkers that worked over his pencils deserve a lions share of the credit . It’s a shame too , I actually enjoy Chaykin’s work on other projects but this interview took my opinion of him down a few notches .

The music during the story being told by the orphan slave kids on Canto Bight at the end of TLJ is similar to the music as Luke is being born in ROTS. I wonder if John Williams was making the point that Luke has been reborn as a legend or symbol of hope.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Is it Williams idea though ? TLJ has many references to ROTS all along, I wonder if Johnson was specific about it when working with Williams.

I was planning for my first US visit next year and the 4 day ticket already sold out? Well, that went well.

I’ve been in Austin, TX for the day with my wife and kids. They surprised me by taking me to Pinballz Arcade where I played an embarrassing amount of pinball games! Highlights included early 90’s era Star Wars and Indiana Jones Trilogies pinball machines, Sega’s Star Wars Trilogy Arcade game, and an original ‘70’s Atari Star Wars Arcade vector graphic game. It was too much fun. I have to admit, though, the biggest thrill was when I successfully got the T-Rex to eat my ball on the classic Jurassic Park pinball.

Pretty sure the Atari Star Wars game came out in 1983.

As for your success with the JP pinball machine, I’ve clearly got my mind in the gutter! 😉

Interesting timing with the Disney deal for Fox finally completed. TCM has a night of Disney film several times a year.

You know Star Wars is in your DNA when you see a tiny thumbnail in google image search unrelated to SW and recognize the DS plans. 😛

If I were to host a series of movie nights for Star Wars once the saga is once again “complete,” this sounds like what I’d do:

Week 1, Saturday:
Episode 1: CLOAK OF DECEPTION (my edit)
Play a tournament of ‘Episode I Racer’

Week 2, Saturday:
Episode II: THE APPROACHING STORM (my edit)
Clone Wars Microseries, Part I

Week 3, Saturday:
Clone Wars Microseries, Part II
Episode III: LABYRINTH OF EVIL (my edit)

Week 4, Friday:
Rogue One

Week 4, Saturday:
Episode IV: A NEW HOPE (my ‘Custom SE’)

Week 5, Saturday:
Episode V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (my ‘Custom SE’)

Week 6, Saturday:
Episode VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI (my ‘Custom SE’)

Week 7, Saturday:
Episode VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS (‘Restructured’ edit)

Week 8, Saturday:
‘Path of a Lightsaber’ montage by Christopher Sherwood
Episode VIII: THE LAST JEDI (my edit)

Week 9, Saturday:
‘The Greatest Teacher Failure Is’ short montage by Heroes Fan Productions
Episode IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER (my edit, assuming there is one)

My stance on revising fan edits.
