I think it’s a good casting. I have Batman nerd board friends who are already claiming… “it’s an abomination” - “it’s the end of the franchise” - “I’ll never see it”, “how could they be so wrong?”…etc, etc.

All those criticisms and outcries were every bit as present when Keaton was cast as Batman, Affleck was cast as Batman, and Daniel Craig was cast as 007.

Full disclosure, I’ve never seen Pattinson in anything, but by all accounts of co-stars and directors, he has the chops. I love Matt Reeves’ work on Planet Of The Apes, so no problem there either.

To me: the right actor, a great story, a great costume, and a great director could give us the best Batman film we’ve had in decades.

Pattinson will never live down Twilight, no matter what he does, and he has a most impressive post-Twilight resume. It’s not easy to re-invent yourself as a character actor after a hit t(w)een drama, but that’s pretty much what he did. He’s really worth following - it looks like his next film is The Lighthouse, and it looks amazing:

That said, I don’t really care for Matt Reeves all that much. I liked Dawn, somewhat enjoyed the other two, really disliked Let Me In, can’t bring myself to care the least bit about Cloverfield or that Schwimmer vehicle.

Probably a solid choice of a machine-tooled studio blockbuster.

The only response that one got out of me was a single chuckle (the bit with the cats) which is odd, because it should’ve been right up my alley. I don’t remember much outside of the fact it didn’t work for me at all. I’ve been meaning to give it another go at some point.

Man, that looks very interesting. Took me a second to recognize him.

Never understood that attitude. The world will not end, life will go on. You’re not forced to watch it with your eyes held open ala A Clockwork Orange, you can still continue to enjoy the graphic novels or whichever cinematic depiction that you prefer.

I honestly don’t mind this casting. Being an acrobatic superhero, it makes better sense for Bats to have a lithe figure than a muscle-bound one.

Now, if only they can ditch the ugly rubber/kevlar Batsuits and return to the classic:

I think this is the best option for Pattinson to get out of the role he hated most of all. It’s been almost ten years since the last Twilight movie. Gotham needs Batman, and we need a new image that the director can create. I think it will be interesting.

Not crazy about the sigal being a device, but we’re so far from release there’s no way of knowing what’s going to be the final product. I love what Reeves has done with Planet Of The Apes, so I’m optimistic that we’ll get a solid story. I think Pattinson is perfect for the part. This is the first Batman film I’ve looked forward to seeing in decades. Fingers crossed.

And my interest has fallen to 1%. Yet another ugly “realistic” Batsuit with too many parts and textures. Whatever happened to the suit being patterned after the classic blue-&-gray costume?

As someone who genuinely loves Silver Age-Copper Age superhero comics, it’s disheartening that there hasn’t been a single superhero film made in the last decade which captures the spirit of those comics. Everything is homogenized or gritty or “realistic”, and I’m sick to my stomach of it.

Something bugged me the first time I saw that clip, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Having seen the clip a couple more times, I’ve now realised what it is: they don’t show us the ears of the mask!

Will they be long (Keaton), medium (Bale), short (Affleck), or micro (West)?
Will there be any ears at all?
Will Pattinson find his ears before it’s too late?
Tune in next year, same bat time, same bat channel, blah blah blah

The clip didn’t Wow me, but looked ok.
However, after seeing photos of the full suit, I’m Wowed.
It’s Wowingly awful.

Indeed.

Sad that there hasn’t been a semi-decent live-action Batsuit since 1992.

I just hope he has the white eyes. From what I can tell he sorta half has them.

Review, with mild ***** SPOILERS *****

You may or not be aware, but Ive been a Batman uber-nerd since grade school. To say the least, I’m a tough audience. For me, it’s always been 1966 and 1989 only.

No second Keaton/Burton (it was terrible). The Schumacher films were insultingly bad. Nolan/Bale was too much of everything and to me they haven’t aged well at all. Ledger should have gotten an Oscar for scene chewing. 1 or 2 viewings and I said goodbye. They look like cosplay at a comic book convention.

Skipped all the Affleck films. No interest. DC lost me with their inability to understand their own characters. Don’t get me started. Which brings me to this new film;

Pattinson nails this darker version. Plus - Batman as a detective - and the villain isnt the focus of the film, Batman is. What a novel idea. Oh, and FINALLY, we don’t have to watch Bruce’s parents being murdered. Zoë Kravitz Is the best Catwoman since Lee Meriwether. She is a perfect live action version of Catwoman as she’s been drawn and portrayed for the past ten years. Several of the Batman/Catwoman scenes looked like they used the current comic books as storyboards. Really well done.

I like that the film doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. It tells a story of Batman and does it unapologetically and without pretense. That’s something I didn’t care for with the Nolan films. There was this sort of air about them that they were to be the true and authentic Batman. There isn’t one after 80 years of the character and all the changes in the Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Modern ages of the comic books.

My other favorites, ‘66 and ‘89, were authentic versions of specific periods in the comics. The TV show was an exact representation of what the comic books were in the 60s. Several episodes were direct lifts from specific issues.

Burton89 had Frank Miller’s fingerprints all over it. After Burton, each new take seemed to be insinuating that it was a correction to the previous mistake - whether either side of that argument is true or not. I can’t speak to Batfleck, so I won’t.

I very much appreciate that this new film is its own story and take. I like that, as a lifelong fan, I can sit and watch Batman without it having any franchise or fan base subtext.

It feels clean, as an entity. The way ‘66 and ‘89 did. It speaks to my outlook on the world at this point in my journey. After a few days of pondering it, as well as having these emotional reactions as the story progressed in the theater, this is my go-to now.

In short, I really liked it. I’ll see it repeatedly and buy it. Will elaborate if the discussion warrants it. Also, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack all day while I worked. It took a lot to back ‘66 and ‘89 down a bit, but this has done it. My Batworld is now ‘66, ‘89, and ‘22.

Second viewing in a few days, third a week later and then waiting for the home release.

The Batman is the moviest movie I’ve seen onscreen for awhile. After a couple of minutes the movie sucks you in and it has you right to the end in its own world. Man, I’ve missed that feeling since I was a kid. The world of The Batman is awesome. It is also a rare movie that I even think about after I saw it. The last one like that was BR 2049 which I also enjoy. The Batman himself is also really good. I thought Affleck was pretty good as Bruce Wayne and certainly the best part of the last DC films but that Batman was just crap all the way to his CGI cape and car, ugh.

While I really enjoyed this film, there are a couple of parts that I thought could’ve been handled better. First, I really didn’t like Bruce Wayne’s look who looked like a 16yo emo kid. I honestly don’t know how old he is supposed to be but his look just threw me off almost everytime I saw him, at times he felt like a kid and at times he acted like an old dude.

Secondly, The Riddler is for some reason one of my favorite villains as an idea. But his duct tape costume was ridicilous along with the weird question marks. Also I have a problem with many films where there should be this crazy villain or something, and then their handwriting, messages etc. look like they are made by an underground marketing department. Like The Riddler really would write his letters and question marks with different font types and sizes for no reason just for one guy to see. This may sound like a weird complaint but I’m a logo and font enthusiast you might say.

But my biggest complaint is the running time. I thought that the first half went on like a train and I was completely on board. But then there was probably 30min or more of just talking where they went back and forth and the plot was a bit mess, and then it for no reason ended with an overelaborated bomb plan that took way too long and didn’t even really seem to matter or bring anything new. I’d rewrite the whole ending to make it more tight as I was already rolling my eyes at that point.

But I don’t want to end in a downer, so I have to say that I haven’t had that much fun in the theatre when Batman was chasing Penguin through the streets, damn that was fun to watch. It’s also interesting that this is the first time since Batman (1966) to have The Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and Joker in the same movie.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

not bad really, nice idea of it being more of a mystery movie than a standard action film, only problem is the lighting in the chase scene is such that you can really get a good look at the batmobile, which is only clearly visible in the bonus features.
