If it’s good, three hours will fly on by.

Just don’t order the Abyss Boy at the concession stand. 😉

I have watched the ultimate cut of Watchmen numerous times as well as the fan edit Watchmen Midnight , without so much as one bathroom break . I love that film as well as the original graphic novel . I lose all sense of time watching it and get immersed in it and see new things every time . If a film is good, 3 hours is a cakewalk . Have yet to see Endgame but will try and catch it soon. I would be all for a compelling 3 hour Star Wars film.

I made sure to drink sparsely when I saw Endgame.

You’re on my radar with this anti-Rose stuff. Not a good place to be.

Do you keep track of people who dislike Jar Jar Binks too? Just curious.

Are you aware of how bad the Rose bashing online has become in the past 18 months?

Bashing the actress was wrong, we still can say Rose isn’t a good character.

And you don’t think really wanting the character to die in the next movie isn’t a thinly veiled expression of anything else?

Sometimes, One Can Know too much about something, but can’t say what they know…yet.

I want the character to die, NOT the actress. She should be in better movies compared to these rubbish Star Wars sequels.

I would agree that a three hour Star Wars movie could be done if it is compelling but that’s an incredibly hard feat that few have been able to do.

TLJ was way too long. I hope they can wrap it up in less time (à la Return of the Jedi).

I certainly don’t. Movie logic ‘within the glass’ is very different from the real world. Horror movies play up our desire to see people with flaws pay the ultimate price for them. If characters like Jar Jar or Rose trigger this response, albeit unintentionally, that’s a fundamentally different thing IMO than real-world hate spewed toward the real people involved. (That could be addressed by the Internet’s larger tendency to give people’s darker sides a loudspeaker through anonymity.)

Part of me would hate to see the ‘Wild West,’ frontier Internet die, filled with thousands of ‘Jar Jar must die’ and ‘Brak ate my balls’ sites. It’s a shame what the collective toll nearly took on Ahmed Best, on the one hand. But I’m not sure political or social censorship is a good response.

I somehow missed out on the Brak one.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Snoke was related to Palpy - as a puppet ? - since it would be the only way (given the return of Palpy as an entrance parameter, of course) to salvage how lame the threat in the ST was compared to the OT and the PT. So far, the ST is missing a true great vilain. Matt Smith could be a Grievous figure, i.e. the new charismatic vilain of the last entry of the trilogy who acts like a diversion to the story as a whole.

Could be the last opportunity to hear for the first time Palpy first name on screen by the way.

Bringing back Palpatine in order to allow Ben Solo to recapitulate Vader’s sacrifice from ROTJ in order to once again kill the very same being would make the ST feel pointless. It would seem that ROTJ’s ending was broken down to be kicked a couple movies down the road and then redone.

If they have to bring Palpatine back, I hope it’s a vision or something rather than a true post-mortem consciousness. If Lucas had any say in it, I doubt that’s what would happen.

^ This. Also if you hate a particular character in a movie/franchise you otherwise like, probably the easiest exit from the story for that character with little chance of coming back is for that character to be killed off.

For me, I dont see Rose as needing to die, I just would have preferred that she wasnt in Star Wars in the first place and now because of my lack of care about IX, I couldnt care less what they do with her character.

I can definitely see how some people might veil their true intentions and feelings by attacking an actor indirectly through their character but I can also see people simply hating such a character and wishing they would die so as to conclusively remove them from the story (except of course if youre a Jedi post Qui-Gon 😉 ). I can see both sides of the coin and how one might need to observe someone for a while to try and determine which side they might be using, hence why youre keeping tabs on their Rose related posts Silverwook 😉

I really don’t think they’d go that route though, since it is so pointless.

Maybe Rey gets possessed by the spirit of Palpatine and Kylo has to save her.
Maybe the McGuffin is that they have to find the first Sith temple, where Palpatine is reborn.
Or heck, maybe this is the movie to introduce literal time travel to Star Wars so that JJ doesn’t have to write a true ending.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I’m starting to think if they are really bringing back the spirit of Palpatine, that the idea actually comes straight from George.

Episode IX = Dark Empire XV.

That’s sorta the reason this makes me think George had some part in this idea. Originally when Tom Veitch was writing Dark Empire, the antagonist was going to be someone impersonating Vader. George came in, though, and suggested making it Palpatine reborn.

I do agree with Hal and some others in that I do feel bringing back Palpatine could take away from Vader’s sacrifice in ROTJ if not handled properly, but what is ironic is that the idea of Palpatine coming back from apparent death is a Lucas idea. Not saying that makes it a good or bad idea, but it is interesting. The idea, when taken at face-value, seems to undermine the narrative, but the idea has come from the creator himself, and isn’t an element of fan-fiction.

It seems like a very George idea. I’m still skeptical (at best) of it, but thinking on it there’s probably a way to do it that’d be really cool and actually benefit the thematic through line of the trilogy and saga as a whole. If he’s just the big bad reborn again, that’ll be silly. But if he’s more of a specter, if it’s more about the long shadow that he cast and maybe his spirit is playing some role to carry out his legacy, it’d make sense if that’s one of the final sort of challenges that these characters have to overcome.

Oh yeah sorry, I wrote it in French: I meant to write “villain”, with two “l”. “Vilain” is the French spelling.

I think he meant how you referred to Grievous as a compelling villain!

Nothing in Lucas Star Wars Saga supports he would have resurrected a character that way. Maul wasn’t his idea. It’s a very JJ idea on the contrary (i.e. trying to look cool while making silly movies such as TFA…).

It was however an idea during TESB post-production to make the Emperor the “last level” bad guy in Episode 9. By killing the character in ROTJ he changed his mind. JJ knows of it, maybe Kasdan reminded him of this abandoned idea. Since Kasdan is no longer the great screenwriter he used to be (see the terrible scripts he wrote recently: TFA, Solo), could be a possibility.
