Loving the work, I’ve donated as well, not sure if you’ve met your budgeted amount yet but there’s another $20 towards it!

Can’t wait to see this one released.

Love your profile pic

Donated! May the Force be with you guys as you get this scanned in and cleaned up! I was waiting with bated breath for Poita’s print to get scanned, but that seems to have stalled.

So just curious, this is obviously going to be taking a while. To my knowledge, the only real 35mm fan release that has happened so far is the Renegade Grindhouse. But as I understand it, some fans have done their own basic color corrections of that release.

Is there anything out there that anybody’s done with some basic color correction or cleanup to hold people over in the meantime while this gets finished? I’ve seen some impressive-looking versions with just a basic color correction applied, but these have been hard to track down for people and are a bit more, shall we say, ephemeral.

Dreamaster made a cleaned up version of the Grindhouse with color corrections, that’s probably the best version made from 35mm transfers out there. Although, some problems are still present, like the red pulse on the first reels, which couldn’t be fixed, I guess.

While I still prefer the Harmy’s Despecialized 2.0, I think Dreamaster did a fantastic job on what was possible with the Grindhouse.

The Dreamaster v2 is my go-to version of Empire until 4K80 is finished.

Dreamastered V2 is impressive but it’s still got a lot of issues. Some of the colors (especially the lightsaber duel in the carbon freeze chamber) are still very… odd looking. And there’s a LOT of digital cleaning artifacts. Lots of partly or completely erased laserbolts. And things that move quickly, especially in the foreground, can be quite weird as random parts get erased. It’s incredibly impressive what he was able to do with such a rough and faded source, but personally I prefer either the original grindhouse or Harmy’s latest version (V2 still I think?) of despecialized. But that’s largely because I personally prefer a recreation or slightly faded colors over digital artifacts and erasures.

Still, dreamaster’s work is incredibly interesting and I do enjoy having it as another option when I get the itch to watch ESB.

As for finding dreamaster’s V1 or 2, eh… you’ll probably have to track him down and ask him. They’re hard to find on purpose from what I understand.

A lot of work seems to have gone into the Dreamastered version, but I much prefer the Grindhouse version even with all the dirt, noise, scratches, etc. Dreamastered is filtered within an inch of its life. All the texture of the 35mm print is gone and kinda defeats the point in a way. As said, the cleanup has left a lot of digital artifacts that I find more distracting than the dirt it cleaned up. And the colors seem overcooked to me.

Started watching the trilogy again this weekend with 4K77 v1.4 and thought I’d continue with the Dreamastered version of ESB but just couldn’t get into it. I’ll continue with the Grindhouse version instead.

^This might be of interest to you. I prefer NeverarGreat’s LUT applied to the Grindhouse over any other version of Empire right now.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Thanks for the info, Dek - I hadn’t come across this before. What software would allow you to apply this LUT to the Grindhouse ISO in order for the output to be another Blu-ray-compatible ISO?

Seconded! I’ve seen people mention LUTs before and have a vague idea of what they are but I have absolutely no idea how to use them…

If you have a video editor there should be some sort of plugin available to apply LUTs. I honestly don’t remember how the Grindhouse ISO was packaged, but if you don’t care about menus, putting it through tsmuxer has a BD ISO option.

Not to my knowledge. I can look into getting my file uploaded if you guys want it (24.8 GB).

I use Vegas Pro. Never used VSDC before, so I’m not aware of what features it can utilize. Honestly I don’t how easy it is to do without professional software. There might be some web tutorials out there but I don’t have any on hand.

Is there a program that x86(32 bit) folks like me can use to apply LUTs? What I’ve come across is only available to x64 folks.

Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects.

Hi, anyone can share the very first scan of Team Negative 1 for Star Wars (1977)?
I search for the master used in Harmy’s documentary named “Team Negative 1’s LPP print scan”.
Thanks in advance!
